In retrospect, it seems that a lacklustre defeat at Watford in Gameweek 15 has been the making of Everton’s season.

Since that 3-2 loss at Vicarage Road, the Toffees have finally clicked under Ronald Koeman, chalking up five wins and a draw in the subsequent seven league fixtures.

The Dutchman’s decision to roll out a wing-back system has been key to their recent ascent.

Everton have chalked up four clean sheets in the last five Gameweeks, bringing both Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines onto our radars as the Merseysiders offer the perfect combination of form and fixtures for the foreseeable future.

Identically priced in Fantasy Premier League at 5.6 apiece, and with clashes against Stoke, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, West Brom and Hull City over the next seven Gameweeks, we assess the Toffees duo’s recent displays as we look for the most appealing route into Koeman’s much-improved rearguard.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

          Best individual hauls;

          Tadic vs Sunderland
          Aguero(c) vs Spurs
          Aguero(c) vs Newcastle
          Rvp(c) vs Blackburn
          Santi(c) vs Hull
          Benteke(c) vs QPR

The week before his haul I persuaded my brother who was known on here as Alan Hansen/Lazarus to go for Nolan and Sagna on a 4pt hit instead of Walcott and somebody else. That moment basically made him quit FPL! 🙁

I really liked Van der Vaart (Spurs) as a fantasy asset back in the day. Rooney when he was scoring well too. Gerrard/Lamps were always exciting points getters too.

Hate admit it but Ronaldo or Tevez. Fabregas a couple of years back wasnt bad either. Then tere was the Lampard/Gerrard pairing a few years ago. Personally I like bargain 3.9 or 4.0 defenders who get clean sheets a lot. Thinking Danny Simpson for example.

      Oooh such a hard one.

Aguero, Baines, Suarez, Lampard, Bale, Michu, Walcott. All had their moments of absolute essential status. Michu was a great one because he was a pre-season fave that came good, and all non-FFS players were amazed at our foresight for having him.

I also have a bizarre soft spot for Jamie O'Hara when he was at Portsmouth. The original benchwarming fifth mid for me, and he had a season where every time I needed him he would chip in with at least an assist. Boyd-esque.

Dare I say it but Lukaku!
I was second in my ML which I had won every year previously. I bought him and captained on the last day of the season when he got a hatty OR 4? for WBA and I won the league by about 10 pts.

It was a hat trick against United on Fergie's last day I think. I remember because I had actually sold him and Kagawa (who also scored in that game) for Chicharito (who again scored in that game) and Dempsey on a 4pt hit... awful way to end a season for me! 🙁

Was that Kelvin Travers, who was runner-up to Matt Martyniak (SpiderMatt) in 2012/13, having been ahead of him for most of the season?

Lukaku scored 16 points in GW38 after 3 blanks, but I (like many others) had sold him for Sturridge, who had had 3 double-digit returns in the previous 4 game-weeks and a supposedly easier fixture but only got 2 points.

      Mine is probably

      Charlie Adam at Blackpool
      Or
      Bale

      Worse

      Wally
      Mane
      Stones

Gotta be early Mahrez last year - before the world really cottoned ok to him. A cheap lock from day one.

Beyond that - Suarez was a weapon and Aguero until this year was a lock.

Van der Vaart was amazing, he's my number one. I think I probably owned him for 20 of his 24 goals. Daniel Sturridge was great too. That game against Swansea (I think?) when Gerrard let him take a penalty was one of my happiest FPL moments. Also big shoutouts to Charlie Austin, Rickie Lambert, and especially Jay Rodriguez. Fantastic 3rd strikers.

All time has to be Drogba - back in the days when strikers were properly reliable and properly scary for defences. Many a head to head and mini league was won through captaining the former Chelsea man.

In terms of just one season - Darren Bent (Sunderland) Probably the only outfield player I've ever kept all season. He started at just 7m, stayed fit and then just scored and scored and scored right up until gwk 38.

Has to be Bale for me. His transformation as he moved from defender to attacking asset was such a great story to watch. And just such a brilliant player.

Quite a few ring bells for me...

Lampard (c) on the last day of the season a few years ago won me a very tightly contested ML when he scored a couple of goals.
I remember being bottom of a ML and languishing around 500k before I bought in Tevez and captained him every week when he was at City... finished 10k.
Sanchez is also fast becoming a legend for me. Captained him against Leicester away last year (hat trick) and this year against west ham (hat trick). Just always seems to deliver.
Oh and Schlupp won me £400 on the last day of the season 2 seasons ago with an assist in the dying minutes 🙂

The problem we have with the starting line up for Arsenal is that Giroud isn't any better or worse than Theo/Welbz....the problem is he's very different. Giroud offers great aerial threat and a static(ish) hold up player, against teams that Wenger may think require that option, whilst Theo and Welbz are all about pace. I can only see problems for us with any of them.

We aren't comparing apples with apples.

      1. Yank Revolution
        • 14 Years

This, but Walcott can play on the wing if he isn't up front, whereas Giroud can't and Welbz I think works best as a striker only. So, Wally is more flexible and his minutes should exceed everyone else who threatens him.

He seemed to be doing it a while back until injury forced his hand somewhat. Mind you Wenger always does his own thing. But agree completely (main problem being that Giroud wouldnt be happy just being a super sub type player - despite the fact he's ideally suited for it and always seems to score when he comes on)

Wenger is not consistent with this . He never rotates based on opposition he just likes to talk about it alot . He said he was going to rotate Theo and Giroud based on opposition last year and this year and he never actually did it . He said he was going to rotate Mert and Gabriel last year based on opposition and never did that . Gabriel started a good number of games and got dropped and never won the place back . Walcott also lost his place .

Man City news prior to kick off today

Sergio Aguero has a minor knock and isn’t available for today’s game.

Fernandinho serves the last of his four-match suspension this afternoon and Ilkay Gundogan remains side-lined for some time while Nicolas Otamendi and Kelechi Iheanacho are rested for today’s fixture.
