Overthinking? It’s what we do – don’t dare ask us to stop.

Particularly now that our heads are swimming with thoughts of blank and double Gameweeks. All those variables, all that planning and strategising: we’re in our element.

Once again, thanks to another bout of community questions, Jonty and Andy join me for another ScoutCast dominated by chatter surrounding our tactics and transfers approaching the missing fixtures.

We break off to nominate the new Premier League whipping boys, while we ponder whether to proclaim Sigurdsson as “essential”, revisit Coleman vs Baines and assess whether the blanks are reason enough to be rid of Alexis Sanchez.

For my money, that’s one decision that requires very little thinking.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Here's one for the DZ:

What would you say is your biggest/most consistent blind spot when it comes to FPL?

Mine is probably a preference for players who are pretty much guaranteed to play 90 and who have decent-ish stats while ignoring better-performing players who come with some rotation risk. It's what led me to select (and still have) Pogba instead of Sterling. I just hate the prospect of a 1 point, ten-minute cameo, but it's a blind spot I need to get over.

Your lack of comprehension of my original post is staggering.

One plays 90 every match and has good underlying stats but has only 4 goals and 3 assists the entire season, the other is a rotation risk but has 5 goals and 10 assists this season. I've chosen the one who plays 90 every match.

            Get it now?

Good question. Mine is probably only ever choosing players that I 'like the look of' / float my boat in real life. For example, as an Arsenal fan, I really don't rate Giroud and would never ever pick him even if he did go on to be a striker worthy of playing for us 😉 In all seriousness though, this does backfire regularly as I see the likes of Aaron Lennon banging in the odd assist every now and again (again a dig but hope you get the point).

Mine is sticking by United players for too long. I've had Mkhitaryan for 4 weeks now and he's done nothing but I watch every game and he looks like scoring every week. If he didn't play for the team I support, he'd probably be long gone by now.

That makes perfect sense. As an American who has litttle historical allegiance to a single club, that might be one of the rare advantages I have.

        Cheers.

I'm a Brit living in the US (San Jose).

I try to avoid United players mostly as I can't judge them subjectively. Getting Mkhi instead of Alli is a perfect example.

Sterling has 2 blanks coming up anyway so not owning him is probably for the best.

Good luck. I hope Pogba comes good for you

I think a lot of people have a huge blind spot in general in the form of hype. Players should be judged on a 3-4 week basis as opposed to 1-2. Any season I've had patience with a team I know is quality, I've finished top 1%

Sticking by players when their form has crashed and missing out on points. I.E. Hazard who I still have no intention of getting rid of. no spurs mids and still don't want one (but I do have Kane)

This is probably a common one. I think we all select players we believe will perform, so we blindly keep faith either out of stubbornness, spite, or fear that we are about to miss out on that big haul that we think is due to come.

Shortsightedness and too hung up in price drops/rises.

This leads to a need to stretch every £ to get the "best" team I can get at that point in time.

Which leads to hits, sadly, and ties up my transfers.
Had a Firmino - Sterling - Antonio - Son - Walcott - Gundogan - Walcott - Firminho saga that cost me - 24 points in hits in addition to the points I lost out on by simply sticking with one (why, they blanked for me, of course).

I wouldn't say that I have one because when I recognise one (and I question myself quite a lot) I try to adjust.

The problem is that I keep discovering new ones. 😕

I guess at the moment it is my tendency to favour a longer-term plan over quick reaction to changes of form. That can sometimes cause me to manage too passively. But it also has benefits so it's not an easy fix.

Cheers, Ruth. This is DEFINITELY one I'm guilty of.

I sit there with my Rondon having plum fixtures and no blanks and just think, "You wait, it's about to happen." And then it rarely does.

Still, I favor a long-term plan. I think planning out and mostly sticking to it works out more often than not. But, yes, some short-term gains are sacrificed.

Should be. Naughton and Mawson also worth consideration if you are going the Swansea route.

I got Zaha today for -4. Did really well before Afcon other than games against Manu Chelsea Watford Arse

Conventional wisdom says the attacker (Zaha) but it's close because PVA also will be attacking as a wing-back and Palace look to be keeping things tighter in the back which could improve his clean sheet chances. Flip the coin on this one.

Coleman covers Lukaku. Could always take a hit and get Lukaku with a cheap mid.

Have to replace him with a 5.2 mid to do Barnes -> Kaku

Wouldn't get Kaku unless captaining then. Your team structure is all over the place. Barnes and de Roon with an average defence. Phillips or similar would be better than the current lot.

Mkhi to Siggy, then Coleman/Funes Mori in for Lenihan, will give you flexibility to play 4-4-2 if need be.

City shouldn't be scary with low ownership. Nothing to worry about! Depends if you're playing for OR or ML.
