Two fine goals in extra time hand Leicester City a much-needed confidence boost as the FA Cup fourth round finally draws to a close, along with a seemingly inevitable blank for both the Foxes and their Gameweek 28 opponents Arsenal.

Leicester 3 Derby 1

Leicester scored and won at home for the first time in 2017 on a long night of contrasts in their FA Cup fourth round replay.

Claudio Ranieri made 10 changes to the side that lost to Manchester United – only Ahmed Musa kept his place – but such has been the Foxes’ awful start to the year that the team was not so much weakened as remodelled by the Italian.

And at least one player, man of the match Demarai Gray, made a strong case for a continued run in the side.

After a first half of almost exquisite tedium, the tie came alive when Andy King put the home side ahead from a Marc Albrighton assist.

Derby equalised from a deflected free-kick to force extra time before Wilfred Ndidi took substitute Riyad Mahrez’s pass in his stride and lashed a shot in off the post for his first goal for the Foxes.

And Gray put the tie to bed with a fine individual goal six minutes from the end.

The winger has started two of Leicester’s last three league matches and, at 4.8 and with just 0.5% ownership, offers some promise as a budget midfielder as the Foxes embark on a set of more favourable fixtures.

A home match with Liverpool and a trip to Arsenal aside, the champions face a good run all the way up to Gameweek 34, with Hull City, Stoke City and Sunderland at the King Power and away fixtures at Swansea City, West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace.

The return to fitness of striker Islam Slimani following his stint at the Africa Cup of Nations was another plus point for Leicester.

But their parlous form is not the only reason to suggest caution, however.

Ranieri’s side face Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round. Win that and their Gameweek 28 trip to the Emirates will be postponed. And seeing as Arsenal, barring an upset of historic proportions at Sutton United, should also make it through, that Gameweek 28 blank for both sides looks almost inevitable.

Throw in the resumption of Champions League duties on February 22 and March 14 – before matches with Liverpool and West Ham respectively – and fixture congestion weakens the case for investing in Leicester assets still further.

Leicester City XI: Zieler, Amartey, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell, King, Mendy, (Ndidi 90), Albrighton, Kapustka (Mahrez 81), Gray, Musa (Slimani 90).
Subs not used: Drinkwater, Hamer, Okazaki, Fuchs.

What am I missing with Hull?

A lot of people looking at Maguire now but some saying he's not nailed when Davies and Dawson are back as well as new boy - Ranocchia

From what I can see, Maguire has started the last 7-8 games ish and Davies and Dawson have also started the majority of them. So were they playing 3 at the back or was one filling in at RB?

What are the chances that Maguire loses his spot? Is it too risky?

I think they lined up with 4 at the back with MacGuire at right back when Davies and Dawson were playing. Difficult to see him being dropped as he's playing well.

Hull seems to be solid at the back (never thought I will say this) and drastic changes are hardly expected. I am bringing in Maguire for Amat.

There's a new manager so anything that happened before he can no longer counts. Fact is he's in great form so I'd say the chances of him being dropped are extremely slim.

they certainly seem more tight at the back now, but I still find it very hard to trust them.

I may though have to get Maguire in for Amat, or Lenihan (why can't he play?!)

Davies is a long-term injury - end of March - so not a factor.
Silva has brought in a new right back & centre half in transfer window.
Barring any defensive disasters Maguire does seem to be nailed at the moment.
Personally prefer Robertson - particularly if there is any chance of 3-5-2.

it's a matter of nailed-on-ness between McGuire and Robertson that's the issue, right?

whatever Hull defender is drafted in, no one is going to play him this week vs. Arsenal. it's for the blank gameweeks.

GW 26 is 2 weeks away (which gives Dawson lots of recover time). Hull could very well stick to 4 at the back, having done so well the past 2 weeks with it. The fullbacks are nailed (as they are if they go to wingbacks . . . Robertson on the left and Elabdellaoui on the right). Unless Michael Dawson's calf is worse than they are letting on, there are 3 centerbacks for 2 positions:

Dawson -- club captain who has played every minute he has been healthy this year.
McGuire -- who has played very well and has not missed a minute since week 15
Ranocchia - who is the new boy and the one who throws this into question. he was their best player vs. Liverpool,
and is an Italian international with top pedigree. on talent alone, he may be to good to remove.

if it's 4 at the back, one of those 3 centerbacks sits down.

that's the situation as i see it.

Demarai Gray has been the one player all season who has been consistently performing for Leicester yet rarely starts. Ranieri falling foul of this very English fear from managers that because a player is young he needs to be eased in and wrapped in cotton wool.

What's the major issue with a GW26 WC plan? I've hardly seen anyone plan for it, but it looks a reasonable option to me, especially if your team is currently in bad shape....

    1) It enables 11 decent starters in GW26 and sets you up nicely for GW28.

    2) The next round of FA cup and CL games take place when the WC is active, which enables you to react to FA cup results (blanks), injuries etc.

    3) Assuming you go into GW28 with a saved FT and you hold 1 blanking GK (e.g. DDG) and 3 blanking outfield players (e.g. Sanchez, Ibra, Alonso), you will still have 7FT available before the GW34 DGW (4+7=11 DGWers = TC) and a further 3FT before the GW37 DGW (4+7+3 = 14 DGWers = BB)

    Am I missing something?

But that's covered in point 3) above. It's possible to get 11 starters in GW26 and 28 and to get 11 DGWers in 34 and 14 DGWers in 37 without any hits if WCing in 26. Throw a couple of hits in there to react to problems if needed.

Yes i get you but the most will go down the route of WC the week before DGW then Bench boost on DGW with as close to 15 players involved as possible. I know its the norm but I personally think its the best tactic.

      TC on the final DGW

GW26 is not a problem for majority. GW28 also quite easy to go through with little planning. After all it's probably just when you think you'll benefit the most. If you think that for you its WC 26/28 then so be it.

    4. Rasping Drive

I think it can work. A bit early (GW32 looks like a better time) but if your team is in bad shape then why not?

If you wait too long (e.g. GW36) you lose most of the benefit a WC brings.

    5. Brap.
      • 9 Years

      "Am I missing something?"

Your plan is to WC to get 11 decent starters in 26 and in 28 have a few premium blankers on the bench.

That is the shape most peoples' teams are in now without having to WC.

If you have a ropey team due to previous mismanagement it's an option I suppose.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Who are Fantasy Football's biggest trolls?

Later today we have a community article out that reveals who Fantasy Football's biggest trolls are. These are players that annoyingly fail to regularly score against easy sides and pull out surprise points hauls out of the bag against top sides.

I thought ahead of this article it would be good to find out who you think the biggest trolls in Fantasy Football are and compare hard facts with our own experiences.

As with Lukaku could it be that we have to start thinking a bit more carefully before we use the T word?

trolling the concept of the game. Players won't always score and with weekly transfers you might sell or buy someone at the wrong time.

Bad losers use the word troll. Take responsibility for your moves and get over it. imo

But the evidence suggests that there are a number of well owned popular players who predicatably do well against poor sides and poorly against good sides

In turn there are those that often fail to do well against the weak and pull out great scores against top sides.. arguably these players are trolls as they perform unexpectedly......a key lesson to learn from identifying them is to turn them from 'troll' to 'predictable' but avoiding captaining them againt weak sides and handing them the armband when they play top sides.

This could be crucial information as it means being brave, going against the grain, but backed by evidence gives a strong chance of a real rankings boost.

Simply dismissing any talk of it as bad losers is way too simplistic. In trems of 'getting over it' such analysis is doing exactly that. Far better to analyse it properly, as Kryten has done in his article.

Taarabt was a different kind of troll, an exception to the rule that large numbers of shots at goal usually result in some actual goals being scored. He wasn't particular about which teams he failed to score against - he just didn't score against anyone. He flattered to deceive, and his returns never matched his underlying stats.

Siggy trolled me then vs WBA, MID, WHU, BOU with 2, 2, 2, 2 and then after ditching immediately getting points vs CRY, ARS, LIV, SOU, MCI with 7, 2, 7, 13, 6. 😉 But I don't take that as trolling. Most of the times the players form depends on the teams form, I was just unlucky or ignored that SWA was garbage before finding form (even with good fixtures) and now that they found form Siggy looking good again.

You could say the same for almost every player, they all have periods of time when they should score and they don't.

We'll have a few players in out teams at the wrong time and also ditch them at the wrong time. We just have to accept it we can not pick the right one all the time. Who would've thought that LIV could play this badly, so expecting them to turn things around when everyone will start ditching their players for someone whose form will drop.

It is what it is, that's what makes this game more challenging and I like it this way. We've all been on both ends of "luck" with them and it feels great when you get the decision right and awful when we get it wrong.

        Welcome to the club.

I got him for Zaha after his 13-point haul vs. Sunderland then he went on a blank run vs the crap teams (2, 2, 2, 2, 7, 2), then I sold him for Coutinho and he went on to score 7,13,6.

Looks like he is a fixture-proof type of player and should be kept for a long stretch.

Reputation for a flat track bully, and always looks great if you watch him play: you always think, if I was putting together a 5 a side team with 4 mates and 1 player from the Prem, it'd be him.

But in reality you get a lot of assisting the assister (a pet peeve for me across the many, many times I've owned Hazard) and 2 pointers despite the match reports reading that he's man of the match, king of all he surveyed, "set up" all the goals etc etc

Personally, I also have my issues with Romelu Lukaku, based on his GW33 DGW 4 pointer last year (luckily I resisted the urge to TC) and general 2 pointers when he should be scoring.

Also this season Rondon (who I still own) has become another figure of derision for me.

Finally, a meme answer: Mark at FFS has been a huge troll in 2016/7 with the visionary advice to drop Sanchez for Hazard 😉 (I know, I know, use your judgement Individual, but yeah I think that also took in a lot of better players than me!)

Well, for me it's Lukaku. It seems every year I bring him in once or twice when fixtures look good and get nothing out of it. I sit on him 3-4 weeks, transfer him out and then he goes on a run or has one big haul. I don't have the actual data (since I stopped keeping spreadsheets on my teams) but that's become my opinion the the guy. This year I have refused to bring him in. Just talking to my brother about this last week.

I believe massively that a player is labelled a troll in your own mind depending on how they've burned you in the past. Lukaku burned me on numerous occasions last year so I have a hard time putting him in my team, even now after 4 goals.

On the flip side, to contrast, I will always love Sanchez for grabbing me 70+ points on TC last year. The guy could probably take a dump on my doorstep and he'd still be in my team.

Nobody has ever trolled me like Darren Bent used to back in the day.

In my team: a guaranteed trail of 2 pointers, missing sitters that my "mother-in-law would have scored"

As soon as I sold him: a host of Suarez-esque double-digit hauls, all against tough opposition.

I even tried to break the hoodoo by buying him before/selling him later than I originally planned. But still no change.

I named him my FPL "unfaithful girlfriend" - when at home, always has a headache. But as soon as she gets out of the door, she can't wait to get her knickers off.

(*apologies for any offence caused by this rather crude comparison)

The third mid-priced striker. It doesn't matter who I buy, they always go on a run of three or four blanks, and then when I sell them on, they turn into Gerd Muller. Example this season: Defoe.

This week I bought Gabriel J. Watch him go 2 - blank - 2 -blank...

This is classic and it is so very often the case.

I remember a couple of seasons back when people jumped into Naismith, then Ulloa, then Bojan, then Gomis... and they didn't get rescued from the spiral of points-chasing awfulness until Kane emerged as their saviour in November.

But none of those players were "trolls". The managers were for expecting something they were highly unlikely to find.

Rose, swapped out walker when he had his 1 game suspension

      Kane for me

Last year: was on a very nice scoring streak 6 in 7 or something like that, bought him in for some easy games where he didn't do anything for 4 games in a row, sol him again and he scored 3 in 4 I believe

This year: bought him for those 2 tasty home games against Burnley and Hull where he also was my captain, nothing, sold him and got some hauls after that.

Eriksen doesn't get anywhere near enough grief for his trollish ways. Always capable of going on a double figure spree when few own him, blanking repeatedly once you've brought him in only to revert to spree-mode once he's been sold again.

Most of my players this season.
      Succeeded immediately after I sold them: de Gea (6), Valencia (7), Aguero (16), Gray (10), Defoe (7), Azpilicueta (9), Holebas (7), Walcott (7), Ake (8), Daniels (12)
Failed while I had them despite previous good form: Amat, Barkley, Negredo, Hazard, Defoe, Sanchez, Son, Walcott, Allen, Zaha, Phillips, Alli.
Defoe and Walcott appear in both lists.

But I blame myself, not the players. Too many hits, too little patience, too much believing that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, and far too many poor decisions.

go with as my starters this week: Brunt, McAuley (whu) & PVA (stk)
    or
upgrade my 3.9mil bench fodder to Coleman/Baines (mid) & bench McAuley

i'll more than likely upgrade after this week to get 11 out in 26 but i'm leaning towards save the FT, go as is & then make transfers once I know more about 28 blanks... thoughts?

The FFS twitter updates really are bloody annoying. The Quotes from Bilic they choose to use about how he hasn't trained all week and this is the first time he has not trained with the team give the impression he is seriously unlikely to be involved.

Then when you check further he also says - "Andy Carroll has a niggling groin problem. Nothing serious and will "hopefully" be OK for Saturday". Yet there is no mention of this.

Surely that's an update you should be adding and a pretty important one?
