Two fine goals in extra time hand Leicester City a much-needed confidence boost as the FA Cup fourth round finally draws to a close, along with a seemingly inevitable blank for both the Foxes and their Gameweek 28 opponents Arsenal.

Leicester 3 Derby 1

Leicester scored and won at home for the first time in 2017 on a long night of contrasts in their FA Cup fourth round replay.

Claudio Ranieri made 10 changes to the side that lost to Manchester United – only Ahmed Musa kept his place – but such has been the Foxes’ awful start to the year that the team was not so much weakened as remodelled by the Italian.

And at least one player, man of the match Demarai Gray, made a strong case for a continued run in the side.

After a first half of almost exquisite tedium, the tie came alive when Andy King put the home side ahead from a Marc Albrighton assist.

Derby equalised from a deflected free-kick to force extra time before Wilfred Ndidi took substitute Riyad Mahrez’s pass in his stride and lashed a shot in off the post for his first goal for the Foxes.

And Gray put the tie to bed with a fine individual goal six minutes from the end.

The winger has started two of Leicester’s last three league matches and, at 4.8 and with just 0.5% ownership, offers some promise as a budget midfielder as the Foxes embark on a set of more favourable fixtures.

A home match with Liverpool and a trip to Arsenal aside, the champions face a good run all the way up to Gameweek 34, with Hull City, Stoke City and Sunderland at the King Power and away fixtures at Swansea City, West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace.

The return to fitness of striker Islam Slimani following his stint at the Africa Cup of Nations was another plus point for Leicester.

But their parlous form is not the only reason to suggest caution, however.

Ranieri’s side face Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round. Win that and their Gameweek 28 trip to the Emirates will be postponed. And seeing as Arsenal, barring an upset of historic proportions at Sutton United, should also make it through, that Gameweek 28 blank for both sides looks almost inevitable.

Throw in the resumption of Champions League duties on February 22 and March 14 – before matches with Liverpool and West Ham respectively – and fixture congestion weakens the case for investing in Leicester assets still further.

Leicester City XI: Zieler, Amartey, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell, King, Mendy, (Ndidi 90), Albrighton, Kapustka (Mahrez 81), Gray, Musa (Slimani 90).
Subs not used: Drinkwater, Hamer, Okazaki, Fuchs.

Any thoughts who will have the higher effective ownership this gameweek between Ibra and Sanchez?

Overall Ibra as he's in so many dead teams as captain. Top 10k; probably Sanchez

Cheers guys, the mini league teams I'm competing against don't have Ibra in them so am tempted to captain him before I ship him to Lukaku next week. Can see lunchtime frustration for Sanchez against Hull's rearguard but know my main rivals will captain Sanchez. Knowing if Giroud started a few minutes before deadline would be helpful.

Haha, I think Andy Carroll looks the best budget striker if you can afford him (and if he's fit). Llorente could be worth a punt too.

I've got him. Benched him for arsenal the only game he's returned. I've got other problems to sort out before him but I'd suggest niasse and get a bit of cash itb

Had the C on Sanchez till I realised Arsenal have the early game on Saturday lunchtime which is always a bummer if your captain plays in it and doesnt do anything. So thinking of going Siggy captain instead, or perhaps Costa. Any thoughts?

That's no reason to not captain him 😉 it's not fun to captain Siggy if Sanchez gets a haul on Saturday either 😉

    Please help 🙂
Rose and Stanislas -> Maguire and Siggy for free or save 2FT by doing Robinson -> Jaku?

    Team (2FT, 0.1 itb):

    Heaton (Robinson)
    Coleman/Baines/Brunt (Chambers, Rose)
    Sanch/Haz/Alli/Phillips/Stanislas
    Ibra/Kane (Diomande)

        8 years, 11 months ago

Ok 😉 I'm just afraid of Stanislas coming back and not saving 2FT to after the 5th round in the FA cup. With my only 1FT I definetely would be tempted to do Ibra -> Lukaku early to avoid losing team value. Then I have 0FT and the long period between GW25 and GW26 could backfire with injuries..

      2. GE
        • 9 Years

True 😉 thanks! Probably then just do Robinson -> Jaku this GW, Ibra and Rose -> Lukaku and Maguire before GW26 and then Stanislas -> Siggy in GW27/28

Current team, 2 FT and 0 ITB

    Foster Jaku

    Coleman Gibson Holgate Alonso Ake

Phillips Sanchez Firminho Alli De Roon

    Zlatan Costa Campbell

Need to move Ake and Campbell on but Campbell can wait another week or two.

    Best option?

    A. Gibson and Ake -> Maguire and Kone (rotate well)
    B. Gibson and Ake -> Kaboul and Naughton
    C. Gibson and Ake -> Kaboul and Robertson

Planning on taking out Sanchez next week for Hazard

      Heaton

      Sanchez Milner Alli Lazini Phillips

      Lukaku Costa

IMO GW 27 is the best time to get him - the FT saved by not doing it this week could be extremely useful once the 5th round of the cup has been played!
