Gareth Bale saves the gameweek, as Tottenham’s 2-0 win draws things to a close. Time for us to round things up, rummaging through the Opta data to pick out the statistics that matter, taking a punt at the Fantasy Premier League bonus points along the way…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Man City fixtures:

    Sunday 1 January Sunderland Away
    Tuesday 3 January Liverpool Home
    Sunday 8 January Liverpool semi-final
Wednesday, 11 January Man Utd Fa Cup Home
    Monday 16 January Wigan Away

You'd expect Mancini to field strong teams for the cup matches so i'm thinking Silva will be rested at least once, quite possibly against Sunderland this weekend. For me, it's looking more and more like Silva --> a fit VDV for GW20. F*ck the loss of value.

Interesting. Luckily, I got back in love with Bale last week, but VDV had twinkly toes all last night. However, it just feels wrong to get rid of Silva...I was thinking of shipping out Smalling and BAE for McAuley and Caulker, then swapping Walters to VDV. Worth it?

      Smalling to McAuley
      BAE to Caulker
      Walters to VDV

WBA nor Swansea are likely to keep too many cleansheets over the next few gws. And I didn't think VdV did that well at Norwich?

That said, VdV is someone I think everyone should have a plan B for i.e. a way to draft him in if need be. I don't think you should be too attached to Silva. He isn't completely in-disposable especially given City's recent away form.

I need a bit of help, not sure what to do with my two free transfers. I want to use them the best I can. Thinking one will have to be Evans out for someone, but not sure what to do with the other one. If I have to make a third transfer to improve my team, I am prepared to take a 4 point hit.

My team at the moment is:

    Vorm, Krul
    Jones, Evans, Enrique, Simpson, Brown
    Walters, Drenthe, Nani, Silva, Gower
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

Thank you in advance, I have 0.3 in the bank.

Two things, before I finally do go to bed:

    1. I reckon Drenthe won't have a DGW. Doubt he'll start at Tottenham.

    2. Week 22 is going to be horrific. City vs Tottenham and United vs Arsenal. Pretty much 80% of my team will be involved in those two fixtures.

well wildcard before then, im wildcarding before 21 or 22 so will account for that. also i currently have bale and ade for the dgw, should i look to get vdv in for silva or get gallas/bae in for shawcross, was also looking at walters to osman but doing all three would be a 4pt hit which rarely pays off

Fair point on 1, I presume it's related to Moyes' "I need someone who can defend away against threatening teams" statement. Will keep monitoring his progress.

On 2, you have 2 GWs of transfers after the DGW to pull as far away from City, Spurs, United and Arsenal coverage, then fix it in the WC.

O fellow night dwellers: I am in a pickle!

Already did ba > Studge to get this:

    Vorm (Kenny)
    Enrique, Simpson, Brown, Evans, Naylor
    Bale, Silva, Mata, Nani, Gower
    Sturridge, RVP, Adebayor

Nightmare of a transfer last week as I did Dyer>Gower....who, unbeknownst to me, has lost his starting role. I'm piping mad about that one.

anyway, I have a minor defensive nightmare here. I want to do a points hit to get Shotton in for naylor, but surely that is foolish, right? I mean, it would be better to have Brown play and get 0 if City score four than play shotton who could very well concede and give me a net gain of -2. Surely I should hold on until next GW, even with a horrible D line, right?

also, next week, I am thinking mata > Drenthe and Evans > Baines for a 4 point hit. Yes, I know, Everton will probably be poor for the double, and I would get rid of baines with the WC, but still....I feel like going into thew double with just Ade and Bale is not enough. I ALSO know that it would be reasonable to do Evans >BAEorWalker instead of Baines but I figure if I have the money why not grab a pen taker for the double?

So I need help on two matters:
is a defensive hit worth it, or should I stick with a poor score from Brown?
    and
two everton players next week for a hit?

Taking a hit for a defender (who doesn't promise attacking returns) is a no-no. You know this I think.

I think you could go 3/4 players for the dgw, but I don't think Baines is the answer; I don't expect Everton to do much against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

I'd say leave defense and keep your options open on additional dgw coverage. The players I am monitoring and considering are:

      Drenthe (Currently have)
      Jagielka
      Osman

      Bale (Currently have)
      VdV
      Adebayor
      BAE
      Lennon

I dont expect everton to do much either, and it would hurt to get rid of Mata, but if I do, the only way to justify it with a hit is double gameweekers. Since I already have Bale, Drenthe would be the only choice.

That leaves me with a buttload of money to upgrade a defender. You really think Jagielka or BAE will outscore Baines?

For DGW id go Osman over Drenthe. Much more likely to play both games. BAE has a decent chance of outscoring Baines with higher probability of clean sheets.

fair enough, but lets even suppose that one right there:

Yeah, good chance of paying off and should at least break even. Plus Evans to BAE is a good long term move and the Mata money can be better spent in WC.

Do this trade if you are willing to let go of Mata and no more. Osman is the better prospect up front for everton and BAE has the better potential for clean sheets than either Jags or Baines in that game week.

Barring a pen, I think its reasonable to assume that Jagielka will probably score the same as Baines, given Everton's form this season so far. At the moment, I'm hesitant personally to pay the extra 2+million on Baines without demonstrated attacking form; it just doesn't seem worth it given what you can do with the £ elsewhere.

BAE will, for me, outscore both of the above. I think its fairly likely that Spurs will keep clean sheets in both their dgw games, whilst its equally likely that Everton won't.

You have 3 defenders to play this week so no more hits. Save it for next week when you will certainly need 2 trades available.

The dgw. You need to ask yourself how you see the dgw games going. Personally, I am seriously bypassing EVE altogether. No one's scoring and there are no cs. It's too much hassle getting rid of Nani et al and back in again.

Three maximum dgw players for me. Bale and Ade are givens. Trying to work out a way of importing BAE into my team.

    Walker Jones Kompany Barnett Naylor
    Nani Silva Walcott Sinclair Drenthe
    Ba RvP Sturridge

1 FT, thinking Sinclair to Etherington and Silva to Bale for -4pt
Then next week Nani to RvP and Kompany to Baines for -4 again

    Thoughts?

It's 8pts over two weeks and turns into 3 players I don't have playing 9 games in two weeks versus 6.

Really that bad? Can't make up the 8.

Was thinking the same, listened on the radio and sounded like a storming performance. His rivals: Gervinho scored and Benayoun assisted, but Gervinho didn't really sound nearly as dominant, same for the Wolves goalscorer. With Ade getting a mad 3pts last week who knows? RVP could manage 2.

True the last one was slow. All depends on the performances of players the week before, and if injuries cause panic selling / buying of alternatives. In fact the WC might be more of a protective mechanism to protect yourself against sales in that case...

      Hi ElNinio!

Hey have you thought about something completely leftfield with the dgw in mind? It involves your WC. You only have one dgw player currently in your team. So play your wc in week 20; get 5 dgw players in knowing you can get rid shortly after.

      😕

Hey Jafs! Definitely want to get 3 Tot players - Bale + Walker/BAE + Ade/VDV. Maybe 1 Eve player but reconsidering - their form is outrageous.

Currently looking at WC in GW22. Yourself?

Possibly later rather than sooner, ENR. I actually like my team- apart from the crockeries - and dismantling them could be a costly business.

BAE/Ade/Bale look to be the extent of my dgw investment.

What do you think for DGW:

    A.) Howard, Osman, Drenthe
    B.) Howard, Baines, Drenthe
    C.) Baines, Osman, Drenthe
    D.) Jagielka, Osman, Drenthe

I think you're getting a bit carried away with the prospect of a double gameweek 🙂

I know but would like to measure my options if I end up getting 3 EVE. What combination would you choose?

Howdy. I didn't catch the Tottenham game but noticed BAE got subbed early - any injury worries? How did VDV look? I'm tempted to trade out Evans to BAE tonight (it would leave me with 0 in the bank). Anyone think VDV would be better to have for the DGW? Thanks...
