Eden Hazard and Diego Costa find their feet away from home and punish the legions of Fantasy Premier League managers who dismissed them ahead of Gameweek 27. Elsewhere, Manuel Lanzini’s late goal blinked the Argentine on the Gameweek 28 radar, while causing yet more frustration in Chelsea’s defensive assets.

Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s action…

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
Without a goal away from home since the Gameweek 14 victory at the Etihad, the Belgian overcame concerns of his form on the road to convert Chelsea’s counter-attacking opener.

The 11 points – Hazard’s seventh double-figure return of the season – took him to 163 points, second only to Alexis Sanchez overall.

With an aggressive chase for Manchester City assets taking place prior to this Gameweek and a blank to come, Hazard had suffered more than 179,000 sales prior to the London Stadium visit.

But with a double Gameweek to be scheduled and kind short-term fixtures against Stoke City and Crystal Palace, Hazard surely remains in our thoughts for the run-in.

With doubts surrounding Arsenal’s form and a seemingly unsettled Sanchez, the Belgian’s stock as a heavy-hitter midfield asset appears strengthened and we’re likely to see his ownership rise again once Gameweek 28 has passed.

Diego Costa
The Spain international doubled up with Hazard to punish the thousands of FPL managers who traded their Blues assets for City acquisitions.

More than 156,000 moved Costa out of their squads in the scramble for Sergio Aguero and, while that’s a move that could, and should, return profit, the Chelsea man nonetheless issued a reminder that he cannot be easily dismissed.

Monday’s effort, a simple tap in from a Cesc Fabregas corner, was his first goal on the road since a Gameweek 17 headed winner at Crystal Palace.

Despite the perception that Costa has struggled to keep pace with Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, he has returned a goal or an assist in four of his last six Gameweek starts.

Nonetheless, doubts remain on his ability to “explode” double-digit returns.

Costa produced nine points on Monday and has broken the 10-point barrier on just three occasions; Lukaku and Kane have supplied six double-figure returns apiece.

Manuel Lanzini
A strike at the death proved a bitter blow to those FPL managers holding Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and his defensive team-mates, but it also offered further indication of the Argentine’s recent form.

While we will still likely focus on the appeal of the returning Michail Antonio for the Gameweek 28 visit to Bournemouth, Lanzini at 6.3 to Antonio’s 6.9, clearly has the potential to provide an effective differential.

With three goals and a trio of assists in his last six Gameweek starts, Lanzini certainly makes a case to supersede Robert Snodgrass as the option to undercut Antonio.

Snodgrass has delivered one assist in his four Hammers’ starts so far, despite creating nine chances – more than any of his team-mates over that four-match spell.

But the Scot has lagged behind in terms of goal threat. Lanzini has fired in 12 efforts on goal over the last four Gameweeks, compared to Snodgrass’ disappointing contribution of just five attempts.

In Decline

Marcos Alonso
Established as the go-to option in the Chelsea defence around these parts, Alonso is beginning to cause some concern following the Blues’ run of five Gameweeks without a clean sheet. Lanzini’s late goal means that Antonio Conte’s rearguard has kept just two shut-outs in their last nine outings.

Attacking returns have also somewhat dried up over that spell, with the Spaniard contributing a single goal over his last six outings – his last assist was back in Gameweek 19.

But patience is perhaps a worthy policy; Chelsea have strong short-term fixtures and Monday night again saw the Spaniard bomb forward on occasions, earning four penalty area touches – only Costa (five) manager more for the Blues.

Ultimately, our degree of patience shown in Alonso and the Chelsea back four may depend on the “cost of sale” and a reluctance to abandon a prime defensive asset prior to a Chelsea double Gameweek.

Winston Reid
Hobbling off on 68 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle problem, the Kiwi is now an early doubt for West Ham’s visit to Bournemouth in Gameweek 28.

With two goals and three assists to his name, Reid is arguably the key asset for those considering a Hammers defensive acquisition.

Any absence would cast real doubt on investment elsewhere, with Cheikhou Kouyate or James Collins likely to deputise alongside Jose Fonte.

Slaven Bilic’s defence have not kept a clean sheet on their travels since Gameweek 8, a factor that should perhaps be considered when weighing up the merits of Bournemouth’s Josh King as a short-term purchase.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's simple. On the top 10 list of players sorted by GA's in the last 4 weeks, there are 3 milfs that play this week. All three can't have better fixtures.

Make sure you own all three.

My mind's not been on FF the last week or so, but back from my holibobs now and need some advice.

Which transfers to do this week? Only 1 FT, so any extra would be for a hit.

It's possible that he will get rested, but I am expecting him to start. Sane and Sterling are bigger rotation risks IMO.

be amazed if he dont, he's head and shoulders the best option, if theres to be a random resting Nolito will come in for a winger

Really only Pep and some Man City staff know. But I would hope so. I expect the team below to start:

          Caballero
          Fernandinho Stones Otamendi Clichy
          KDB Toure Silva
          Sterling Aguero Sane

The hardest working players in the team are the midfield three. They have each been rested recently (Toure and Silva against Huddersfield and KDB against Sunderland). So they should all start.

Hoping for mass rotation against Boro though for Aguero to start tomorrow.

        Heaton
        Coleman - Brunt - A.Smith
        Mané - Firmino - Sigurdsson - Barkley - Phillips
        Lukaku - Carroll

        Robinson, Stones, Alonso, Agüero

Pretty sure I should be playing my Wildcard after GW28 but would like to hear people's opinions?

Why though? We know which teams are getting the DGWs, so I can just load up on their players now and have a good team instead of one full of GW28 cr*p. I know people are set on saving WC in preparation for GW37 but I don't see the issue with playing it in GW29 and having plenty of time to build towards 37.

Good point. I thought it was pretty cut and dry given my situation but I'm going to have to give it some more thought.

Don't save it then. Personally I'd first like to know all the fixtures and dates, and optimise relative to injuries/upsets/form.

See, I can understand this point of view. But when people just say "save it" and don't elaborate I want to know their reasoning. I think a lot of people will save it because that's what the crowd are doing on here and not thought how it can be used in relation to their specific situation.

Playing it immediately after GW28 is a viable tactic, and could work if you don't suffer a lot of subsequent injuries, rotation etc from your WC team. We know Southampton, Arsenal and Man U are the only teams who will have at least 2 x DGWs post-GW28, so doubling up on players from these teams is a good start 🙂

If there is more, that team will blank in gw34 and have a double in 37 and somewhere else so 50/50

Should be clearer by GW30 I think & haven't ruled it out for then. Mass hysteria often fluffs things up as well/worse than any individual. Best doing what works for you regardless.

Don't think defenders are anyway. Can lose pts on them. If you have a player like Stan or Capoue then T. Carroll to free up funds could be a good shout. Lot of people will say King but he won't get a penalty every week. Llorente is a nice place holder (as Andy puts it) for Gabbiadini in gw30. Only worth it for players you definetly aren't going to want back come gw29

That's similar to the way i'm viewing it, if you've got a player you don't want after the blank GW, you can effectively get rid of them for a GW28 player on the cheap.

Is it worth getting in Llorente for a hit this week? I plan to keep for a few weeks.

Depends on if you have Siggy. But if you want double Swansea then why not.

Have eeked out something of a plan for the coming 3-4 weeks and – in search of a diff or two – I see that Leicester have back to back homes against Stoke and Sunderland in 30/31. I'll probably WC in 32 so with little to lose ........

What would it take for you to place your trust in Mahrez and Vardy again ??

T’would be one hell of a differential 🙂

Do you guys like the look of this -8 ?

Ibra, Sterling, Amat > Lukaku, Firmino, Funes Mori

                    Leaves me with:

                    Heaton
                    Baines FM McAuley
                    Mane Firmino Siggy Snoddy
                    Lukaku Barnes

Pickford Alonso Holebas Eriksen Ageuro 0.9ITB

                    Thanks!

                      Grant - Allen - Hazard - Alonso

If Phillips is still a doubt after WBA presser i'll probably take a hit since it's only -2

                      Take out whom:

                      A. Phillips
                      B. Allen

                      For who:

                      1. Firmino / Coutinho
                      2. Barkley
                      3. King
                      4. Snodgrass / Antonio / Lanzini

In my last four games I've amassed 32 points, I'm on pens, well priced, and have potentially two DGWs.
