This morning we reveal the qualifiers and the first round draws for both our Fantasy Premier League cup competitions. This follows the qualification rounds which took place in Gameweek 29.

Over in the open-to-all cup, 505 managers join former winners donnellyc, Jonty, Gribude, Mch, Wild Rover and our reigning champion A Manager With No Name, along with myself, in this first knock-out round of the competition, which takes place over Gameweek 30.

The qualifying cut-off score for this cup was a demanding 80 points, with rank deciding entry for those who scored exactly that tally in Gameweek 29; you had to be placed in 4,276th spot or better if you scored 80 points.

A scan of the draw reveals that the current champion will immediately have it all to do if he is to regain the crown; Ranked at 34,806 in the world, “A Manager Has No Name” has been drawn with “Flying Nugget”, an opponent placed some 32,205 places above him in the overall standings.

MCH and Gribude are other former winners that look set to be tested in the opening round. The latter has drawn “themightydave“, a manager currently placed a very respectable 13,095 in the world, while MCH faces an even sterner test, up against the “upthemiddle” who is placed 9,207 in the world.

Meanwhile, the top ranked manager in the tournament – “Hana” who is 47th – is part of a opening round glamour tie: their opponent Ginola 14 is placed 8,439 and will smell a giant killing.

The full first round draw can be found here.

Meanwhile, over in the Members Cup, we have 510 managers joining two former winners in the first round as Fuzzy Dunlop and Trigg gain byes.

The qualifying score was 75 points: you had to be ranked 88,995 or better if you scored that tally.

The full first round draw can be found here.

Billy Ketsu, as the leader of our FFS Members League, is the top ranked manager in the tournament – they are currently placed 39th in the world and in the mix for the FPL crown. Emckay is the unfortunate FPL manager who has the task of facing the high-flyer in the opening round.

Elsewhere, we have to spare a thought for “Fat B*d“. Placed a lofty 3,305 in the world, they have somehow managed to draw higher ranked opponents in both competitions. They will face our very own moderator Spencer – ranked 3166 – in this cup, while over in the open-to-all version, they take on Vice – ranked 2537 in the world.

FFS Cups Round Dates
Qualifying – Gameweek 29

Round 1 – 512 teams – Gameweek 30
Round 2 – 256 teams – Gameweek 31
Round 3 – 128 teams – Gameweek 32
Round 4 – 64 teams – Gameweek 33
Round 5 – 32 teams – Gameweek 34
Round 6 – 16 teams – Gameweek 35
Quarter-Final – 8 teams – Gameweek 36
Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 37
Final and third place play-off – 2 teams – Gameweek 38

There is £350 in Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk vouchers up for grabs for the final top three managers in both tournaments.

Good luck to all those involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

Think I might be tempted to get Davies for Rose. I'm wildcarding in 5-6 gameweeks anyway, as long as I get at least 4 matches from him I'll be happy. I'll await further comments from Pocchentino first though.

Poch is always so hazy on injuries... never really says how long anyone is out... Toby, Verts, Lamela (!!!), Kane - it all had to be a guessing game.

They said he's seeing a specialist later today to try to determine when he can come back. So, in that light, perhaps we will have more news tomorrow, but yeah Davies should probably at least play the next three if Rose is still seeing a specialist...

For Poch to say Rose is out for three weeks. Kane coming back in GW33. And for us FPL players to get Davies not Walker, because I'm gonna rest the most owned TOT defender the next game. Is it that hard to say that for Poch? 😉

So, with the international break, I forced myself to take a break from FPL to keep insanity at bay... The problem is, I now feel very disconnected and not on top of the latest thinking...

Therefore I'd really, really appreciate if anyone could look at this and give me a quick answer of what needs to change based on the current thinking... when I went away my most pressing matters were getting rid of Funes Mori and finding a way to have Alli... Now?

    Foster/Pick
    Walker/ Alonso/ Funes Mori/ Robertson/ Pieters
    Sanchez, Siggy, King, Davies, Fletcher
    Agero/ Lukaku Costa

    1FT, 0.6m

Take a hit for FM - Holgate and upgrade Davies or Fletcher

    3. Pinky Blinders

Reliable 3rd defender and a more premium 4th mid. Might be best to roll with what you have this week and use 2FTs plus a hit next week to fix

I wanted to reply but looking at your mid idk what to say.. If you do Kun/FM to Vardy/Yosh, can you afford Alli for Dav/Fleet next week?..

I would do something like FM to Ben Davies and then next week downgrade aguero to upgrade fletcher or Davies to Ali for -4

Thanks all... I know - I don't remember the midfield looking that pathetic before the internationals... all the money in attack it seems.
FM obviously has to go. Holgate a nice cheap option who I imagine is pretty nailed now? Then I can try to sort that midfield out a bit...

I think Alli can wait until next GW (away to Heaton this week), you have acceptable stand-ins for Funos Mori, so even he can wait. The obvious weakness is that you need to play either Fletcher or Davies. That's what you should fix, and your problem seems to be budget. Replacing Funes Mori won't get you much in the way of funds, so you need to decide, going forward, if you are going to hang onto that front three or downgrade one of them. If it were me I would save and do a mini-WC next week.

        Nail on the head there....
I can't have Alonso, Walker, Sanchez, Costa, Lukaku, Aguero and lots of money... one of them has to go I think to give it more balance... it's just deciding which way to go...
Up front probably makes sense? I can then have 2 x premium defenders, mids and forwards...

Assuming you do Kun to Ibra next week that should give you ~1.9m ITB to upgrade Fletcher and F Mori.

I think there is more upside to upgrade Fletcher. Zaha perhaps? Unfortunately no good options now. Then you will have enough $$ to move F Mori to Bertrand/Cedric/Boro def later.

I'm thinking FM to a 4.0m defender like Stephens or Holgate...

Then Aguero to Kane in 2 weeks and Fletcher to Pedro?

Not sure about Stephens now that they have signed a new CD (might be good to wait and see how that plays out). Holgate sounds great given that FM is out for rest of season and shld be nailed, though defensively they may not be as solid without Coleman too.

And good plan to get Kane and Pedro - I personally prefer to have a stronger 3rd def and a 6m value mid but I think Pedro works well too.

Btw you are not getting Ibra with DGW 34? Or you plan to get him in for Costa later.

Struggling to find a way to get both ibra and Sanchez so have to just settle for 1. 1m in the bank and 1ft, Which is best option

    Jaku valdes
    Coleman Valencia Alonso lovren Evans
    Mane siggy eriksen son Carroll
    Aguero Carroll lukaku

    A
    Gw 30 Coleman to walker
    Gw31 aguero to ibra

    B
    Gw30 Coleman to bdavies/yoshida
Gw31 aguero and son to Vardy and Sanchez (-4)

Some help would be appreciated. Planning moves for the next couple of weeks:

A - Aguero > Gabbi (subject to presser) & next week Phillips > Alli
B - Aguero > Vardy and save next week. The week after Vardy & Phillips > Gabbi & Alli
C - Save transfer and do Aguero > Zlatan next week which means no Alli
    D - Other?

    Heaton - Pick
    Brunt - McAuley - Valencia - Mawson - Amat
    Sanchez - Siggie - King - Mane - Phillips
    Kun - Lukaku - Carroll

    Heaton
    Brunt, Baines, Alonso

I'm not taking that hit, as tempting as it is. Vardy a good prospect for sure, but not sure this weekend is as great a game as everyone is making out. Liverpool defence is porous and Lukaku is in the best form in the league, and Costa at home vs Palace is a good fixture. -4 not quite worth it for me.

        1. Day off tomorrow has completely thrown me.
        2. No, not too much. They have good fixtures, but I'm slightly against defensive doubles up - just feels like eggs in one basket a bit. I guess you're also going to want Kane when he's back and one of Alli / Eriksen, so the double up may stifle you in a few weeks.

Well my issues you can fix...
      A. Who to play from Baines, Holebas, McAuley or Snod?
      B. Or take a hit to replace (have.4itb).
      C. Kun to Vardy -4? Allowing Snod to Alli next week.
      D. Who to captain?

      Squad below.

      Foster Pickford
      Alonso Holebas Walker Baines McAuley
      Snoddy Siggy Sanchez King Mane
      Llorente Lukaku Kun

        A) Holebas, with Baines as sub if Holebas doesn't feature.
        B) Tempting. If tempted go Valencia for Baines.
        C) I've chosen not to do that move myself. So no, just.

      GW30 Team
      Jaku (Pickford)
      Alonso/Valencia/B Davies (Stephens/Fernandez)
      Alli/Son/King/Sanzhez/Mane
      Lukaku/Vardy/Deeney

I'll be playing 3-4-3 so my question is do I bench Son or King? Son is a decent differential. Janssen potentially ill and won't play so Son should start. He'll also have something to prove after not scoring last GW. King Definitely starts and will be involved in the goals in there are any...Hmmmmmmmm??

Classic case of a 5th midfielder who is too strong. Not a bad thing, but I hate those benching headaches. Erm...I'm starting both of those players. Probably would bench King, just.

To be honest I gave myself the headache. I don't have Vardy yet. I'm definitely getting him in before the deadline (Have Barnes as 3rd Striker atm). I think Vardy will bag some goals but could've done without this decision. It's self inflicted for sure! haha

Cheers though mate. I was leaning towards Son too 🙂

If you wanted a cheap defender to replace Funes Mori, would you go for Southampton's Stephens or stick with Everton and Holgate?

Don't like Holgate as a pick. Stephens looks better.

          Thanks Simon

          My team is currently

          Heaton
          Alonso Valencia Brunt
          Firmino Coutinho Antonio King
          Aguero Costa Lukaku

I have enough cash to either
          1. Antonio Coutinho Aguero to Zaha Sanchez Ibra (stay 343) next week or
          2. Fletcher Coutinho Lukaku Aguero to Sanchez Alli Barnes Ibra (352) - I'll get Alli later to spread the trf

          Appreciate your thoughts!

Pleasantly surprised with the comeback time for Gabbiadini, could be back in midweek.

Austin about a month away. Will they play with two strikers, or do we think they will they be forced to share minutes?

Share minutes mostly. His system is one big striker and two / three interchangable midfielders for pace in around him.

They'll play both when needing a goal maybe, but wouldn't expect many starts together.

I'd say Gabbi is the main man, Austin will take a while to get starts.

Austin and Gabbiadini can both play on the wing, so I'd imagine that they'd play 3/4 from Gab's, Austin, Tadic, Redmond.

You'd think that Gabbiadini and Tadic would start most games, given their recent form, and that Austin would be introduced gradually.

I know Gab can play behind the striker and on the wing, but didn't realise Austin did. I agree Austin will be gradually eased in, especially if Gab keeps up his form (unlikely, given it's 4 goals in 4 in the PL, but I still think he will do well, just not AS well).

Tadic, Redmond, Gabbiadini would be their first choice front 3 i'd imagine.

I think that he played off the left wing with Redmond as a false 9 in a few games this season, and with Pelle as the #9 last season (you might want to check though).

Transfer done. Good to go? 😎

      Heaton
      Alonso / Cedric / Mawson
      Mane(c) / Coutinho / Sigurdsson / King
      Aguero / Costa / Lukaku

      Pickford / McAuley / Brunt / Carroll / 2.5m in the bank

I know I was preaching Cedric wasn't nailed... but I can actually bench him midweek if need be. Coutinho and Aguero --> Sanchez and Ibra(-4) next week.

Meh, hoped for something more from Pooch about Rose. Should still get at least 3 games from Davies (1.4, 5.4, 8.4) if I go that route, but it would be swell if he was out a bit longer. Till WC at least. 🙂

What's the craic with Rose? Have carried him all this time and was hoping he would be back in 1-2 gameweeks. Do we know any more than this? Is it likely to be longer?

      (1) If I do Rondon-Vardy, I'll have a bench dillema and must play McAuley vs United:

      Valencia Mawson (McAuley Pieters FM)
      Mané Eriksen Alli Siggy King
      Vardy Lukaku Llorente

Sadly, AOA chip not available any more.

      (2) If I do FM-Alonso, I bench Rondon, accept his price fall, have three good defenders and captain Mané or Siggy.

      1 or 2?
