Friday delivers our regular visit to our daily and weekly partner game FanDuel. As usual, we’ll be assessing the upcoming contests on offer and the prizes available before putting our neck on the line by revealing our strongest XI to help steer your selections.

Earlier this week we announced the opening of a FanDuel Survivor contest, taking place over the next four rounds of matches.

The contest uses a familiar “Last Man Standing” ruleset, with  participants who survive the cut each week going through until we eventually find our winner in the fourth week. It’s free to enter, with prizes on offer and is open to UK residents.

There are only 300 places available, so be sure to claim your spot ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

For those yet to sign up, if you register ahead of this tournament, FanDuel will also add £5 credit to your account. Use the code SCOUTFIVER to access this promotion. Further details on how to get involved can be found here.

If you’re new to FanDuel, we recommend that you check out our strategy guide for in-depth tips and, for this week, our selection below will hopefully provide some pointers for your first line-up.

FanDuel contests take place over the regular three windows this weekend. The full ten-fixture slate begins with the Merseyside derby from 12.30pm tomorrow.

The deadline for the Saturday contests is the 3pm kick-offs, of which there are six. This wraps up with the south coast clash between Southampton and Bournemouth at teatime.

Games are also available that include the two Sunday ties, as Middlesbrough visit the Liberty Stadium at 1.30pm before the weekend headliner which sees Manchester City roll up to the Emirates at 4pm.

My Strongest XI

David de Gea £7.0m
Mason Holgate £6.5m
James Tomkins £7.1m
Ben Davies £7.5m
Dusan Tadic £8.5m
Juan Mata £12m
Dele Alli £12.3m
Gylfi Sigurdsson £12.9m
Jermain Defoe £8.1m
Troy Deeney £8.8m
Jamie Vardy £9.3m

The Key Picks

Manchester United’s David De Gea was always our primary choice in goal this week, with a modest £7.0m price point proving too tempting.

The Spaniard has conceded a mere ten goals at Old Trafford all season and will welcome a West Brom outfit that has notched just 12 in 14 away trips. The Baggies are also set to rotate and, as long as United can cope with their set-piece threat, De Gea would seem very likely to emerge with the ten points available for a clean sheet.

Injuries to Everton’s Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes Mori while on international duty have paved the way for Mason Holgate to earn selection. The Toffees defender is likely to be deployed either in a back three or as a right-back and should be busy holding off waves of Liverpool attacks. We expect an improvement on the 16-point average he’s accrued over six starts in a productive Anfield display.

Sam Allardyce has instilled some belated backbone into his Crystal Palace defence, conjuring three successive clean sheets. While there are no points on offer for defenders who earn shutouts, Palace’s form hints at a resilient performance at Stamford Bridge this weekend. We’ve therefore opted for James Tomkins for our line-up, with his 56 clearances, interceptions and blocks (CBI’s) ranking him top from the Eagles rearguard over their last six outings.

While we usually focus on centre-backs, we’ve opted for Spurs’ left-sided defender Ben Davies after identifying the Burnley right flank as a potential weak spot. The Clarets have conceded more chances (27) and crosses (80) than any other side over the last six down that wing. Davies could be poised to profit, then, given that he’s recorded more crosses (15) and created more chances (seven) than the popular Kyle Walker over the last four Gameweeks.

We’ve invested heavily in midfield this week, beginning with Dusan Tadic, who makes the cut having recorded some encouraging numbers of late.

The Southampton midfielder has produced 14 goal attempts and 13 key passes over his last six outings, delivering a pair of goals and three assists. Set-piece duties also heighten his appeal for Saturday’s clash: only Hull City (38) have conceded more chances from set plays than visitors Bournemouth (30) over the last six Gameweeks.

Juan Mata is set to be a key figure as Manchester United bid to penetrate a West Brom rearguard effort at Old Trafford. The playmaker has started the last four and created more chances (13) than any team-mate over that spell. Two goals and an assist in that period have also contributed to a strong average of 26.9 points in FanDuel.

While Spurs are likely to face stubborn resistance against Burnley at Turf Moor, they have the form and confidence to earn three points. If Mauricio Pochettino’s side are to prevail, Dele Alli will surely be a pivotal figure. Having averaged 39 points over his past three outings and claimed spot-kick duties from the injured Harry Kane, Alli is difficult to ignore.

Gylfi Sigurdsson heads into Sunday’s clash with Middlesbrough having been rested in Iceland’s second international with Ireland in midweek. Only Paul Pogba (26.2) and Christian Eriksen (27.3) have stronger FanDuel points averages this campaign than the Swans midfielder (25.6). While he blanked at Bournemouth last time out, Sigurdsson has netted three goals and served up five assists in his previous seven outings. Involved in 53% of Swansea’s goals, it’s difficult to see Sigurdsson miss out on a handsome haul should Paul Clement’s side earn the victory.

Our first forward gets the nod thanks to an enticing price tag, along with a midweek goal that might just serve to reverse a recent dip in form. Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe may not have scored in four league matches, but a goal against Lithuania for England should boost his confidence. The forward netted a brace at Crystal Palace in Gameweek 24 to score 46 points in FanDuel, underlining his undoubted ability to bring in hauls. Defoe and Sunderland now visit a Watford side that lost 4-3 to Southampton last time out at Vicarage Road.

We’re expecting plenty of goals in that encounter, so we’ve also moved to secure Troy Deeney in our line-up. The Hornets skipper has scored five goals in seven appearances as part of a convincing run of form which includes scoring in three successive matches at home. His six chances created and 25 CBI’s over that run also illustrates an industrious work-rate which suits the FanDuel scoring system.

Our final selection has been reinvigorated for Leicester City since Craig Shakespeare took the reins. Jamie Vardy has returned three goals and a pair of assists in the Foxes three league victories under the new manager. Stoke travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday having conceded three or more goals in four of their last seven away trips. That sets the scene for Vardy to continue his renaissance, with a goal for England in midweek maintaining his renewed confidence.

This Week’s Contests

As usual, the largest pot to be found this weekend is the Fan Favourite, which has £2,500 in prize money. The first-placed participant collects £500 and it’s £5 per entry, with the top 120 places earning rewards.

There’s also a double-up game with £1,000 available – it’s a £10 buy-in and the top 50 players earn prizes.

On Saturday there’s a £3 buy-in contest that has £500 up for grabs. This is split between 43 entries, with £100 being paid to the winner.

The action wraps up on Sunday with a £1,400 game that has a £7 entry fee – the top 29 places share the winnings and first prize is £280.

Finally, remember to enter the free Survivor tournament taking place over the next four Gameweeks. There are 300 spots available to UK residents and the deadline for entries is 12.30pm Saturday.

    B. Keep Sane (ars, che, HUL), save

Looking at the next few fixtures, A is a no brainer, right?

    My team is:

    Pickford, Foster
    Baines, Valencia, Mawson, Smith, Amat
    Sanchez, King, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Fletcher
    Aguero, Carroll, Lukaku

I was thinking of doing Carroll and Foster to Vardy and Jakupovic. It would be for -4 but my main rival has already taken a hit so I'm not too bothered. Any thoughts?

Not so sure. For free I would definitely say yes but the hit makes it a tough decision. Carroll could match Vardy this week.

    Jakupovic
    Alonso, Valencia, Olsson
    Eriksen, Mane, Coutinho, Siggy
    Llorente, Carroll, Lukaku
    (Brunt, Pieters, Markovic)

    8.5 itb, 1 FT

Mini league leader 75 in front, he can't afford Vardy but has Llorente.

Llorente > Vardy (C) to help me claw back some points ?

Rolling transfer and having 2 next GW may be best as will know more about schedule for remaining DGW's right ?

          GW32 - Coutinho > Alli

I think ditching Siggy next week is pretty crazy... he's got 7 attacking returns in a row and is on penalties. Fantasy football gold at that price. I'd ditch Couts instead and perhaps look at getting Alli as a 5th mid in a 3-5-2 if you really want him.

I have been considering a 3-5-2 as well to be honest. I hear what you are saying about Siggy, does feel crazy, if i did it i would be counting on Siggy's run of form drying up which is very unlikely i know. It would however give me a midfield of Mane, Eriksen, Alli, Sanchez with cash for a Vardy upgrade to Ibra/Kane to go alongside Lukaku and a cheap 3rd striker. Got some thinking to do, thanks for input.

You need 3 or 4 differentials whilst keeping the big players. It's gw like these where you have to risk a captaincy. I think that's a good move but with risks. 75 is a lot if he's a good player but it can be done

Right, pressers done so moves made - ended up with a -8 to do Vardy, Sanchez and Valencia in for Kun, Antonio and Coleman.

    G2G?

    Jaku / Randolph
Alonso Brunt Valencia / Pieters RFM*
Sanchez Siggy Eriksen Mane / Fletcher
    Kaku Llorente Vardy (c)

RFM -> Bavies midweek, but that should set me up nicely for the next few gameweeks and that -8 should pay for itself eventually.

Thanks for all the advice earlier if you commented - first intended -8 of the season! Bet it falls flat on it's face 😉

      I like it!

I also brought in Valencia & Vardy this morning, so I'm definitely on board with these moves.

We've also converged on the exact same starting outfield; I can't decide whether this is a good sign, or that we're both in for a rough week. Hopefully the former?

Have you taken the plunge with Eliteserien?

Haha no I'm staying away from Eliteserien - I need the break, and part of the fun of FPL for me is competing against friends and ex-colleagues who are all heavily involved in our cash ML. Wouldn't wana just be doing ES if I didn't have some mates also involved, and everyone who has seen it was a bit meh so we're not running it 🙂

Nice, yeah had to be done. Hate the -8 but I have nothing to lose really, am 50 pts behind ML rival, 100 points behind ML leader (I guess 58/108 now) and 40 points (now 32) ahead of the guy chasing me, so might as well get it out of the way now so I don't have to keep taking -4s lol

Hope that midfield is good enough for the time being, but I think it covers all the bases 😀 - want to be making minimal changes from here on out, with Llorente -> Defoe and Kaku -> Ibra earmarked, alongside RFM -> Bavies 🙂

That's fair. It's going to be nice to have a summer game though, I think - distract me from the monotony of next year's inevitably premature launchday countdown.

Any big differentials between you and your rival? I think it's still well within reach, given a bit of Bench Boost luck.

I'm probably moving PJones for Davies this week too after seeing the Rose news below. And then Heaton & Vardy to Valdes & Ibra ahead of the DGW...at least until the next fire breaks out.

Yeah maybe! I play a lot of video games anyway, plus I have a girlfriend that tends to enjoy my attention in the summer without being glued to my phone to see who scored / assisted, so I should probably give her some weekends off before the launchday antics start.

Yeah, he has used his WC and I have used my TC, so BB/WC intact for me, TC/BB intact for him

Lots of differences - he's very casual (looks at the game at 11am on Saturdays) - so I want to overhaul. Should be fine during the next few weeks given he's already used his WC and also will have relatively limited knowledge of DGWs.

Jones to Davies needs to happen, yeah. I feel like he (Bavies) will be really highly owned. I'll wildcard in 35 (when Rose is slated to return) anyway so it seems perfect to keep him back.
Kaku and Randolph to Valdez and Ibra here - I like keeping Vardy for the long haul and think he'll keep starting even if they are in the UCL. Any positivity from the UCL shines through their team, they are such a confidence-led bunch. Fancy him to go on a run til end of the season now!

Mine thought it hilarious when I mentioned that I'd joined a Norwegian fantasy league. She's surprisingly interested in fantasy sports, though (or at least capable of feigning interest quite convincingly), so the repercussions should be modest there. I imagine my commitment will be fairly casual - I can't imagine I'll spend too much time watching Norwegian domestic football over the next few months.

With WC & BB intact, you should definitely be fine. I'll have to remember to ask for an update in a few gameweeks 🙂

I can't quite bring myself to ditch Lukaku...I brought him in before GWK4, caught the hat-trick, and have felt like I owe him a favour ever since. The Vardy/Lukaku H2H will be worth watching over the next couple of weeks, though.

Haha, mine just harasses me to get off my phone every weekend! Sounds like you have a decent deal.

I have a lot of history with Kaku trolling me and also us getting along. Will be sad to see him go. But maximising the points in the chase it now key in the biz end, so he will go. Vardy will stay (at the moment!), but that can all change if injuries/form/whatever occurs

Fabregas makes the Chelsea attack more creative, in my opinion. In the Matic-Cesc rightness for a match, is this a Cesc match, home v Palace? If it's Matic, I see fewer goals.

      Hi dude

On balance, I'd bench Heaton too here - did originally think play him but yeah can see why you'd play Pickford with 3 spurs in the xi.

Keep Siggy and do Sanchez midweek - I did take the -8 for Sanchez, but that was to fill the Antonio gap (had Pieters coming in instead), but if I did want/have to replace Siggy with him I'd keep for MID then ship for Spurs. Follow up games for Swansea are away anyway, so I'll be looking to sell either Siggy or Llorente (most likely Llorente, want to keep Siggy, but as you have Alli/Eriksen I'd get rid of him!)

Hello guys, have been away on vacation for a while.

Need your views on the team below, and on a few potential transfers:

    Heaton (Foster)
    Fonte Mawson Walker McAuley (Love)
    Alli Siggy Mane
    Deeney Llorente Lukaku

    1. Do you think this needs any obvious changes?
    2. Do you think there's anyone I should ship out for Vardy (for a hit)?

I really want to get Vardy in, but Llorente (against Midd in their current state) and Deeney (against Sun) seem like they'll both get points

    3. I'm really considering captaining Deeney - is that a horrible idea?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Deeney a great shout, but news is he might be unwell. Don't be swayed by the OG. Last year Kane scored an OG one match followed by a hattie the next week. And was in great form.

I would be tempted to ship Llorente to Vardy - fixtures are MID TOT vs. STO SUN. In current form I feel like Vardy is a better call over those two fixtures. You have Siggy to "cover" Swansea anyway. But then I've just taken a -8 of which getting Vardy in was a big part, so I have to defend it haha 😉

        Cheers Individual!

Yeah, just waiting for some confirmation on the illness thing.

I've been considering the Llorente to Vardy move as well, but I'll have to get Vardy in for a hit. So that makes it a 6 point barrier for him to break (assuming Llorente doesn't get any points) - seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

Guess this will be a deadline hour decision...

        Cheers!

Yeah think so. I just hate owning Llorente, such a donkey (replaced Rondon with him, too, so I've been double-donkeyed almost lol) so I'd be wanting ratface in. Way I see it, if ratface scores and you've captained him, you're already in profit, or if you haven't and he scores it washes it's face PLUS you have him in place for the home game vs. Sunderland who are becoming the Villa of this season now!

      Alonso.

Not seen a captain poll with no runaway leader in a while so it's a good week for a gamble.

Chelsea clean sheet odds are shorter than any of the main candidates anytime goalscorer odds.

He's been desperately close to scoring in the last couple of weeks.

Alonso. Can't see anything but a cs for him and if he knicks an assist then it's very decent esywith boss potential in that scenario

If he's having a party, I finally want an invite. Didn't get a single goal last year from him (somehow ended up top 4k lol).

Also have a good feeling about ratface this week.
