FFS Cup

FFS Cups – Results and Quarter-Final Draws

We take some time this evening to find out who has made it through to the quarter-finals of our two Premier League cup competitions.

Topping the bill among the last eight ties is a Live Hall of Fame top ten derby between Mark, whose rank of 297 makes him the highest-placed remaining manager, and the 423-ranked My Pretty Pony (aka Peter Kouewenberg). While Mark has the rank advantage, Peter’s second placing in the Live Hall of Fame, compared to Mark’s sixth spot, could see him prevail.

Choppers13, who conquered Patio Kev in round five, takes on Team Fosu-Mensah, who is at 3,474 – 2,506 places behind his top 1,000-ranked opponent.

The third quarter-final looks likely to be another close affair, with Sleepysi ranked just 960 behind 1,192-placed Fouad Khan.

Given the current rank of the other six managers through, both 364,588-placed K3lviN and 229,821-ranked The Shaman will be breating a sigh of relief as they face each other in a clash of the competition’s lowest-ranked remaining managers by some distance.

The full quarter-finals draw can be found here.

Choppers13 is the Members cup’s highest ranked-manager – and the only one still in both competitions. He has, on the face of it, a far easier tie in the Members cup, when he takes on 132,642-ranked Barwood.

The giant-killing exploits of 46,996-placed rogerbarton have taken him into the quarter-finals. Fresh from seeing off an 88th-ranked Pukka in round four, Roger defeated 20,109-placed Dr Ennet in the final 16 to set up an encounter with aspern, another higher- ranked manager, who sits in 12,763,

Cheltnamshire lalala, who currently sits at 3,056 and defeated community writer Kryten in the last 16, will square up to 59,241-ranked Malaikat Jahad.

Elsewhere, 13,579-placed Dynamic is the favourite in his quarter-final tie with Thecrystalball, who is the contest’s lowest-ranked manager at 171,998.

The full quarter final round draw can be found here.

There is £350 in Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk vouchers up for grabs for the final top three managers in both tournaments.

Good luck to all those involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes, click this link.

Is Monreal nailed or likely to miss a game or 2 in 36/37? I can afford Koscielny if not.

I don't buy this "on the beach" lark...where is it written that "on the beach" means no pts?. We seem to be assuming that players with nothing to play for just give up whereas in fact they can sometimes play better football than when they did under pressure

I can remember two famous games when players where "on the beach" for the last game of the season that led to a goal fest
WBA 5-Man United 5 and Newcastle United 5-Spurs 1...and i'm sure we could make a very long list for other similar results.

As always the problem is picking who and when...not avoid at all costs.

I wanted to know if this Approach has got you such a Good OR this Season by little Luck or have you succeeded with this Approach in Previous seasons as well?

I get the point about goals. I think 'on the beach' tends to impact clean sheets more because they take effort and discipline, and because modern defending is done very much as a team and managers tend to tinker with starting lineups and formations.

That said, West Brom have gone bad both ends, like a serious case of gastroenteritis.

      That'll mess up Jonty's algorithm!

I agree though - probably best to look at general form of a player over fixture/league position in the first instance at any time of the season.

Agree re on the beach. But it does mean more rotation generally so harder to pick players. Whereas at the moment certain players at Hull, Swansea, Spurs, Chelsea, City (although it is Pep), Arsenal and Liverpool are nailed.

It doesn't always mean rotation at all. Look back at the line ups for season's where players aren't going to a major competition and you'll find quite a minimal amount...well minimal to the carnage we envisage.

Far more likely to be a procession of the 1st team than a run out for the lads...

Bournemouth is certainly a team this doesn't apply to. It does apply to West Brom however so you have to take it with a pinch of salt

I don't think the term "on the beach" should refer to teams with nothing to play for but simply teams that seem to be coasting and they aren't necessarily linked.
Leicester risked getting relegated by effectively playing rudderless whereas a tean safe and not in a european chase may be relishing every last game.
So "on the beach" to be defined as not trying rather than not needing to try.

I'm in a similar situation - Bailly and Stones. Luckily I have Stephens as stand-in, so will bring in an Arsenal defender and another for-4 next week instead.

Is that -8 to bring Monreal in? Or an additional -4? If your ML is close, then it may not be worth taking the hits this week. Arsenal fixtures aren't the best.

Pep is due to speak tomorrow I think and we should be able to 2nd guess Bailly's situation after the match - so hold tight until tomorrow.

Worst case scenario is that you only have 2 playing defenders. Not the end of the world, I guess.

Hey mate cheers for the reply. Yeah it's for a -8, Monreal, did the -4 already for King+Jesus for Zaha+Tekkers.

I think that objectively it's probably bad. If my ml rival at 19:55 tomorrow looks to have taken a hit I will do it, though, I think, as then the -8 isn't as bad as it could be. But yeah if stones is alright I might as well leave it and take the -8 next week... Feel like Bailly definitely won't play the dgw for sure

Morning all. I'm heading off on holidays today so I want to finalise my team in case I can't find any internet.

    My team is:

    Cabellero (De Gea)
    Kompany, Huth, Yoshida* (Gabriel*, Bailly)
Sanchez C*, Hazard, King, Eriksen (Albrighton)
    Jesus, Gabbi*, Kane

Bench look right? Not sure about playing Gabriel over Kompany or Huth.

Why not Cech over De Gea?
Gabriel seems to be a poor pick with Mustafi back in training.
      Looks good otherwise

I'm late to the party, what does the Mustafi news mean. Will he feature against Man U? Is Gabriel now redundant as an option?

Not redundant - but a considerable risk.

Chances of playing all remaining matches are arguably slim.

Any merit in going for Matic over Albrighton?

He has 8 assists this season and showed vs. Spurs he can strike a ball. He is also relatively Nailed. I'll put it like this:

    A. Matic & Koscielny

    B. Albrighton & Monreal

Yep. Withdrawn on 74 minutes on Saturday. Has played in last 5 though. I think Cech is the go to man at ARSE.

A goal a game + 1/2 baps a game so in total: 4 for play time, say 4 in BAPs and 10 in goals scored. So 18?

thats is very optimistic considering his and arsenals form, but yeah you shouldn't be expecting anything less because theres other players in better form capable of that who only have one game

60 (20x3), but would take 36 now if you offered it to me.

        4 appearance point, 2 goals and 6 Baps/CS points.
