Diego Costa and Marcos Alonso are among the goals as Chelsea move one step closer to the title with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough to place question marks over their Gameweek 37 and 38 teamsheets.

On the Rise

Diego Costa
The second most-captained player in the Gameweek, Costa struck his 20th league goal of 2016/17 as the Blues soared seven points clear of Spurs with three fixtures remaining.

Backed by over 10% of FPL managers with the Gameweek captaincy, the Spain international is second only to Gabriel Jesus for transfers in up front since Friday’s deadline passed – more than 38,000 have already acquired his services as the league leaders prepare for a Double Gameweek 37 that hands them a trip to West Brom and a home tie with Watford.

The main concern, though, is if Chelsea win at The Hawthorns on Friday night, then the title is already over before Spurs can kick another ball in anger.

Given that they also face Arsenal in the FA Cup final on May 27 – six days after the Gameweek 38 home clash against relegated Sunderland – then a victory against the Baggies means that Conte could opt to rest and rotate his regulars over those final two home matches, potentially scuppering our plans.

However, it’s worth noting that Costa has played 90 minutes in each of Chelsea’s last 13 league matches, and bearing in mind that summer signing Michy Batshuayi has failed to start a single league match thus far, the 33% holding the former Atletico Madrid man will be confident he can retain his starting berth.

Marcos Alonso
Netting Chelsea’s second in the 3-0 stroll, the Spaniard’s stunning end to the season continues to reap reward – he’s racked up two goals, an assist and a pair of clean sheets in his last four outings.

Alonso’s 14-point tally helped him reclaim top spot in the FPL defender standings ahead of team-mate Gary Cahill, with Cesar Azpilicueta sitting in third spot after providing an assist for the wing-back’s strike.

Yet there’s no doubt that the summer signing has been the main man for FPL managers in defence – an average of 5.8 points per match is identical to team-mate Costa and bettered by just six regular players over the current campaign.

Having played 90 minutes in 13 of his last 14 league appearances, Alonso has also been immune to rotation, though the likes of Nathan Ake could offer an option to Conte if he opts to rest any regulars if/when the league is won.

Cesc Fabregas
One of our three “Differentials” for Gameweek 36, the playmaker proved a timely differential ahead of Double Gameweek 37 by serving up a 12-point tally against ‘Boro.

Owned by 2% of FPL managers, Fabregas has started five successive home matches, producing double-figures on three of those occasions.

Impressively, he’s now served up attacking returns in nine of his side’s last 10 at Stamford Bridge.

With Conte perhaps keen to protect N’Golo Kante’s thigh injury with one eye on the Wembley showpiece, the 6.9-priced Fabregas could be worthy of a flutter for those remaining three league fixtures.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Hauled off just after 70 minutes with the hosts 3-0 ahead, the Belgian failed to extend a recent run that had delivered returns in seven of eight appearances prior to last night’s victory.

While there seems little doubt that he’ll start against West Brom as Conte looks to get the title in the bag, Hazard’s pitch time continues to be managed by the Italian – he has now been subbed off in 23 of his 33 starts, more than any player in the Premier League this season.

With Pedro and Willian more than capable of delivering from the wide roles, the 34%-owned Hazard is arguably most at risk of being handed a day off than other Chelsea regulars, as Conte plots to clinch the double in his first season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

No way Mustafi starts for Kos. It's going to be Gabriel isn't it. What a surprise when Gabriel gets dropped again at weekend for the DGW.

You got 5(x2) points. The only failed captain pick is a 2-3 pointer. Plenty of people captained Lukaku or Kane or Jesus this week.

That's the LOWEST possible points return he could get if he kept a CS.

To put it in context, my captain as a 12th player only has 2 more points than Sanchez lol...

I agree, and it's disappointing, but he kept one CS. How many times this season have you captained a 2 pointer? For me it's far too often. I chase the hauls rather than the steady points and it costs me.

Loads of times, as you can see I'm not shy from taking a calculated risk. My problem is that when I put my balls on the chopping block like this I expect returns when my bet actually pays off but instead I get the lowest possible points in the case of a success and my captain injured the next game.

Basically bad luck has turned success into failure here.

always comes with a risk Kos, injury prone as he is. One of the best defenders in PL and I must say you did a smart captain move, initially, and ofc it´s unlucky if he misses tomorrows match. By the sound of Wenger it didn´t seem to be more than a knock, so would not count him out entirely, just yet-)

That's true, Arsenal players are made of glass. Still sucks though, could've at least gotten me a decent 8-9 points instead of a measly 5 for a CS.

Current bench boost team for 37

    Pickford, Henn*
    Alonso, Kompany, Bertand, Monreal*, Stephens*
    Eriksen*, Hazard*, KDB, King*, Zaha
    Kane*, Gabbi*, Jesus

    0.0 itb,120K rank

The (*) players are ones my mini league leader has. He is 60 points ahead of me so I need differentials. Have taken the risk and done Sanchez + Davies (both he has) to KDB and Kompany for free.

What other moves would you recommend? He will take hits so I'm happy to do likewise.

Ten by the looks of it, but starting King over Anichebe. Kicking myself for playing BB in a state of season where i almost had given up and was so close to resign. Got me 7 points or something and atm I´m in a 28 point lead on my mini league rival and he has his BB, but his team is in shambles and he must do at least one hit to even have 15 players who plays and several of his players are in danger of not playing both matches or has awful fixtures. He has Tc on sanchez while i have captain, but i have Ozil; yoshida and Monreal over Gabbi, hoping for a nil-nil ofc-)

    Bottomed! Sorry for RP...

Hi all, looking to ship Bailly and have 6.2 to spend. Rest of def is Monreal - Holgate - Yoshi - Kompany

    Best option?
    A) Luiz (no Chelsea def; Haz)
    B) Kosc (pending OK) (have Monreal; Sanch)
    C) Bertrand (have Yoshi)

Feel like it's probably Luiz here... fully expecting rotation though 🙂

Hey man :). I just DK about Huthy here for those two fixtures! Doesn't seem worth the -8 for that. What makes you say him? Obviously as my defensive consultant I'll listen to what you reckon 😀

Whilst I've got you, am also probably taking Alli out for Silva for a punt (have Kane Eriksen Alli and think I'll keep the former two). That look like a decent one?

        How's your side looking too?

        1. Hurricane Gilbert

The goal threat and his last fixture! Last year he scored against both City and Spurs. He could get a surprise CS against a demoralized Spurs. Best medium priced defender.

Would much rather prefer Alli to Sané for a hit, instead of Silva. But I'm not sure on that one.

I will be taking lots of hits myself this week. Benteke to Jesus with my FT, then Bailly and Gibson probably need to go. On top of that I have two stinking Saints attackers in JWP and Gabbi. Minimum -8 for me!

          Cech / Pick
          Alonso Vert Yoshida (Bailly* Gibson*)
          Sanchez Haz Alli King JWP
          Kane Gabbi (Benteke)
          2,0 ITB.

Fair enough mate. I'm actually considering Kone + KdB in now, over those two. Think that might be better. The bargain basement for defenders is so awful lol, I'm considering Kone, Prodl or taking a risk on Holding or Tuzanebe. Disgusting. But prefer KdB

Yeah I'm on a minimum -8 here too 🙁 did Kompany for Stones before he rose, otherwise it'd be too tight to make the further changes, but need to ship Bailly and think I will ship Alli as I said as well.

I'd be looking at Bailly, Gibbo, Tekkers at least out. Gabbi and JWP can come off the bench I think!!

fab might not play against wba though, he tends to not start away from home. Think Conte approaches this like any other away game and of course Chelsea are fantastic and favourites to win but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a wobble, like a draw. If they do win then I have no clue. People here tell me Conte rotates immediately after securing titles (in Italy)

    Willy - Pickford
    Alonso - Kos* - Maguire - Holgate - Stephens

Let's assume Alexis scores brace and Arsenal hold CS. Gap would be 30-ish. Then you have the BB advantage that a lot of players above you won't have. You could be within 10 points before the final GW and then anything can happen.

I just could never buy into the whole concept a doctor time traveller poncing around with a scarf, a phone box and saving the world each episode.

I will give it one thing though I always liked the theme tune

My phone is autocorrecting Borini to Boring. A sign?

y defense and 5th midfielder is a worry

    Caballero Pickford

    Alonso. Blind. Kelly. Yoshida. Gabriel.

    Alli. Sanchez. Hazard. King. Capoue.

    Gabbiadini. Kane. Jesus

    I have 1ft, 0.4itb

Thinking of upgrading capoue to maybe tadic(my knockout opponent has jwp nd Redmond with gabbiadini) but blind and Gabriel are game time risks

I thought of benaloune but Morgan is back.

Need help on dealing with blind, Gabriel and capoue

What happened with Perez at Arsenal? I don't get why clubs pay so much for someone then never play them. Do they show up and the manager just thinks they're no good? Surely they know enough about them from scouting. Seems strange to me.

It is funny when looking at the countries from the top 10,000 teams.
Ireland is second only to England.
Is this a bad reflection on the popularity of the Irish Premier division interest?

Wales and Northern Ireland are much lower?

Or does this mean that people from Ireland are just more knowledgeable about soccer?

    1 England 39.8%
    2 Ireland 7.9%
    3 Norway 7.5%
    4 India 3.7%
    5 Scotland 2.7%
    6 USA 2.7%
    7 Australia 2.6%
    8 Malaysia 2.1%
    9 Egypt 1.9%
    10 Wales 1.8%
    11 Sweden 1.7%
    12 Finland 1.5%
    13 South Africa 1.5%
    14 Indonesia 1.3%
    15 Poland 1.2%
    16 Northern Ireland 1.1%
    17 Serbia 1.1%
    18 Canada 0.9%
    19 Singapore 0.8%
    20 Thailand 0.7%

Well you would expect NI & Wales to be much lower as their populations are such.
India are 4th not because they understand fantasy football better, but more due to the fact that there's a billion people in their country.
A better measure would be the % of players from each country in the top 10k. I would guarantee India wouldn't be 4th in that standing.

        I suppose you are correct
        But, looking at the populations

        Ireland 4,761,865
        Norhern Ireland 1,870,451
        Wales 3,063,456
        Scotland 5,327,700

It appears that the two 'Ireland's are punching above thier weight.

Another poster is right special mention for Norway @
        5,258,317
