A Marouane Fellaini goal helps Manchester United to the Europa League final – a match in which key defender Eric Bailly will take no part after he is sent off at Old Trafford.

That could mean extra league involvement for the centre-half in a United side otherwise subject to major rotation ahead of that late-May final.

Here’s the Scout Notes from a night of intrigue and golden chances missed.

Manchester United 1 Celta Vigo 1 (United win 2-1 on aggregate)

Manchester United’s 12th 1-1 draw of the season was one of the more lively ones, with red cards and late Celta Vigo misses contributing to an anxious Old Trafford finish.

Marouane Fellaini headed home from a superb Marcus Rashford cross – a goal that should have settled first-half nerves.

But the Spaniards were twice the craven team of the first leg, dominating possession and creating a number of chances throughout.

Once the visitors had finally equalised, United were left clinging on to their aggregate lead and survived courtesy of Celta’s profligacy – most notably when striker John Guidetti missed a golden opportunity with effectively the last kick of the tie.

But they will go into the final on Wednesday, May 24, without centre-half Eric Bailly.

The Ivorian was sent off following a mini-melee, opening up the intriguing possibility that the 9.0%-owned defender could now play all three of United’s league matches in a run-in he would otherwise have expected to be used sparingly.

A double Gameweek 37 starts hard, away at Spurs, and then eases to Southampton at St Mary’s before a final day home match with Crystal Palace rounds off the domestic season – just three days before the Europa League final in Stockholm.

Should he feature heavily in the league, Bailly could be expected to score well at the heart of a defence that’s kept five clean sheets in the last six matches.

But with United now just one match from Champions League qualification, doubts over the make-up and motivation of Jose Mourinho’s teams from here on in will involve many more players than just Bailly.

The coach started the same XI in both legs of the semi-final. If that is his Europa League template, then the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and the fit-again Juan Mata could be in for a busy end to the domestic campaign.

United, however, are turning few heads with their attacking prowess at the moment – they’ve scored just one goal in their last three Gameweeks.

Decent Fantasy returns, therefore, are likely to come from more defensive outlets, if at all, with the 34.3%-owned David de Gea a solid candidate.

United have eyes only for Europe now. Fantasy managers would be wise to look far closer to home – a view that takes in precious few of Mourinho’s men.

Manchester United XI: Romero, Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Herrera, Pogba, Mkhitaryan (Carrick 77), Rashford (Smalling 89), Lingard (Rooney 86).
Subs not used: de Gea, Jones, Mata, Martial.

I have a 51 pts gap to close in 2 GWs.

Me and my ML leader both have Sanchez, Jesus and Hazard as captaincy candidates.

He does not own Kane (he has Costa) and will not bring him in for sure!

Would you do Kane (C) in that situation?

    Please help! On BB

    Willy/ Pickford
    Alonso/ Yoshida/ Stephens/ Gabriel **/ Holgate *
    Sanchez/ Hazard/ Alli/ Sane/ King *
    Jesus/ Kane/ Anichebe

    * SGW but plum fixture
    ** not playing

Biggest issue is clearly Gabriel. I’ve got 0.5 in the bank so do I go for…

    A) Gabriel ---> Holding or Gibbs (sticking with Arse but risky playing time)
    B) Gabriel ---> Fuchs (nailed, DGW but not great fixtures)
    C) Gabriel + Holgate ---> Holding and Fuchs (cost me a -4 and give up a plum SGW for a dodgy DGW)
    D) Gabriel + King ---> Holding + Fabregas (bring in another DGW but both dodgy time wise)

Leading mini league by 63. We have same team except he has
    Sanchez gabriel holgate redmond
    And I have
    Ozil barragan monreal jwp
Is it worth a -12 to do alli to sane(both have alli and Kane) and ozil to sanchez, would reduce my lead to 51 but would block Sanchez... Yay or nay

Sanchez could easily get 25 points even though he has looked bad, and if he captains that closes gap massively. Just answered my own question, I think

I know where you're coming from, I'm in a similar situation. Not sure yet whether I'll get Sanchez. If I do, I'll captain him.

I'm in a similar situation but leading by 40..I've taken a -8 to get Sanchez as the person chasing me has him so I'd say yes. Also going to triple captain him possibly

    c. King + Hazard > KdB + Cesc (-8)

Leading by 36 points. He has Sanchez and the TC chip. I don't, but have BB and a strong bench.

Many will say get in Sanchez and captain to block him but that's not normally my style. Could be the right move tho.

I think I would be inclined to agree with that.

Have doubts about Alli these days (will be shipping him myself to fund defenders) - purely on the basis of temperament, Can see him getting a red.... At the end of the day, Ars and City are arguably the most attractive team to invest in at the moment,

          C) could be great - but if Aguero is back then KDB might not have the impact of recent weeks.

Much as I dislike Gabbi, Welbeck isn't assured of starts and wouldn't warrant a hit.

          A) is pretty sensible. But I can see Leicester scoring against City.

Thanks for the comments.. I pretty much agree with everything you've said.

Ml rival has Hazard, Alli, Sanchez, Sané and Kane so very explosive options to cut my lead. As I don't have Sanchez I think he'll TC him. He's made a transfer already which might be Hazard to KdB.

Not normally my style either but I look it at it like this. I've taken the risks earlier this season to get out in front. I've played maverick the whole year. It's like the 90 mins I've attacked and I just need to defend lead in injury time to get win.

A is probably the sensible choice, but obviously boring. I like B/C only if you're going to captain Sanchez/KDB, but both could go horribly wrong

I know right! I fancy Citeh to score the most goals, so I'd go Jesus (or Costa) captain if I didn't get Sanchez.

Alli + Ozil out for -8 seems too much

In regards to the Koscielny "update" worth bearing in mind that according to Arseblog, Wenger didn't give a press conference today so those comments about "a small chance" may have been given several days ago

When people say wait on Kun news in answer to Jesus(C) questions, what do they mean by that? Do you expect Jesus to be benched for Aguero? Wasn't Jesus first choice earlier in the season? Would be odd for Jesus to be benched for Aguero who's returning from injury

Striker Sergio Aguero and defender John Stones have both been in full training this week

According to the Manchester evening news.

I guess people are worried Jesus will be benched.

They could play together and Kun could steal points. I hope that happens as a non Jesus or Aguero owner.

His nailedness/ game time expectancy takes a slight hit if Aguero's to be involved

    BB'ing
    What would you
    1 FT and 1 hit

    Cech, Pickford
    Stephens, Yoshida, Clichy, Alonso, Gabriel
    Sanchez, Hazard, King, Ward-Prowse, Alli
    Costa, Kane, Anichebe

I'm thinking of doing Gabriel > Davis or other Ars def?
For a hit, should JWP be next one through the trapdoor? or one of the Chelsea rotation risks?

Aguero threat has put Jesus in 3rd spot for captaincy for me, between Kane and Sanchez atm

    A) Kane, going for golden boot, differential, explosive

    B) Sanchez, explosive, clean sheet points,. Sunderland! Nailed

    C) Could he go big in 2 home matches despite reduced mins?

Aguero threat ? He played them both together 2 games ago.Aguero more likely to be on bench.

We seem to be struggling to know if there is an Arsenal conference today then.. the site news could be relevant or could be out of date. What is going on?!

    A) Hazard + Sane

    B) KDB + Fabregas (-4)

Second option a good punt for rank potentially? First option much safer...

Can't afford to replace Hazard with De Bruyne (0.0 in the bank).
Should I take a hit (if yes, where?) or leave it and have 2FT for gw38?

leave, Hazard has no doubt looked more dangerous this season than KDB. Yes he hauled last week and Hazard may not play both - but if there is one lesson in FPL, don't chase last weeks points!

    Team is
    1.0 ITB 1FT

    Cab Pickford
    Alonso Blind Monreal Yoshida Stephans
    Sanchez Hazard Erikson King Sane
    Kane Gabby Anichebe

Should i just swap Blind for Kompany?

Or find a way to get Jesus in?
