Crabtree Clinches FPL Crown

In yet another tense final day, Ben Crabtree has been crowned the Fantasy Premier League champion for 2016/17.

Nestled in the top ten since Gameweek 28, Ben – who made just a single four-point hit in the final 11 Gameweeks –
claimed top spot for the first time in the very final round of fixtures.

Trailing Uwais Ahmed by two points heading into today’s deadline, Ben went ahead before kick-off following Uwais’ four-point transfer hit.

That saw Liverpool pair Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho swapped in for Spurs’ Dele Alli and Leroy Sane of Manchester City – trades that would eventually prove decisive in the battle at the top.

Ben – with two free transfers – made equally radical transfer moves, shifting out Eden Hazard and Victor Anichebe for Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Starting on Ben’s bench, the Cherries midfielder was the makeweight for the gutsy signing of Costa, although, on the day, it was Stanislas who was to prove the unlikely hero.

He scored the opening goal of the day and, with Josh King in Ben’s starting XI but missing out through injury, those points from the bench helped him extend an early lead.

The Stanislas strike, together with assists from Christian Eriksen and Leroy Sane, saw Ben seize a 12-point advantage heading into half-time.

While Uwais quickly countered with early second-half goals from his signings Lallana and Coutinho, Ben edged further ahead with an assist from his own Gameweek 38 capture, Costa.

The tide looked to be turning back in Uwais’ favour when Cesc Fabregas produced one of two assists in the second period. However, Ben Davies’ strike for Spurs on 84 minutes in their 7-1 rout of Hull City was to deal the killer blow.

While Uwais edged the bonus points on the final whistle, the two awarded to Stanislas on Ben’s bench, introduced as the auto-sub for King, were to take him to a final tally of 97. That surpassed Uwais final tally by three points on the day, and by a five-point margin in the overall ranks.

A proven FPL manager of some pedigree, Ben bettered his previous best rank of 353rd back in the 2011/12 season to become the FPL’s latest champion.

Huge congratulations go to Ben from all at Fantasy Football Scout, and also to Uwais who fought a valiant battle to give us a dramatic final day.

Elsewhere, Bibek Thapa from Nepal stormed to a 99 – 68 victory over Polish manager Peter B to claim the FPL cup.

Many congratulations go to Bibek.

We will have further post-season coverage coming up in the next 24-hours, as we round up the winners of this season’s Scout Leagues and Cups.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Somewhat surprising fact for me:

Apart from Alonso, my highest scoring defender this season was Jack Stephens.

Brought him in gw32 on a wildcard.....

Aye, that is surprising. After Alonso, mine was Ben Davies (gambled on him early)

    The Irish Contingent;

In a late twist Godot overtook Royscallerane after he had held the lead for so long, Roy lost out by 2 points and can count himself unlucky he captained Sanchez and benched Kompany! While Godot (c) Kane and even took a hit! Both players finished in the top 1k and were closely followed by Potatoace in 3rd!, well done to all!'

Free to play so you cant expect much really but i think the winner should get a big trophy for the mantle place the top 10 should get a gold medal top 50 silver medal and 50 to 100 a bronze medal

Huuuuuuuge thank you to the whole FFS community. You've kept me motivated until the very end. I'm looking forward to the next season and probably finally becoming a member of this brilliant site. There's a lot of room for improvement, especially when it comes to choosing the right captain which was my weakness this year. The sad news is I may not be able to post the famous "Today's press conferences" next season. I don't know if I'll have enough time to stay reliable week in and week out. I can't make any promises but I'll see what I can do.

It's impossible to congratulate you all for your seasons but I'm really proud of every single one of you, even if you didn't manage to fulfill all your expectaions. You'll come back stronger and wiser. Enjoy your summer! 😎

I was playing casually first half of the season and was ranked around 800k in GW25 with a wildcard wasted. Since then I tried hard to make the right moves at the right time and finished at 146,472. This is my second season, and definitely an improvement from 438,238 place last year.
Still runner-up in 2 mini leagues, but pretty happy to achieve that.
Thank you all and keep fighting next season!

I had the feeling I have been quite unlucky with my captain picks throughout the season. I did get the right feeling that my captain always scores more than VC but still, this was hardly the highest scorer of my team.

At 1.6m at Xmas, after a terrible season last year finishing at 280k. Made it my mission to at least do better than that and after a long graft up to 450k or so the last three GW scores of 82,182 and 94 saw me finish at 109k. Happy with that but got to get back into the higher echelons next season!

I still can't figure out what is the best strategy regarding hits.
I have always been a hit-avoiding player (only took 1 this year) and I am amazed how good some player can do by taking 10+ hits over a season

    1. Holmes

Differs from team to team... If I have got a decent team, then hit counts is likely to be low whereas a poor start often leads to more hits.

Depends on the hits that you take obviously, I know it sounds like a smart arse answer but some people only do themselves damage when taking hits, whereas some people do themselves damage by holding on to players for too long. Gotta assess it all depending on the unique situation of your team and how long/short term you pick players based on.

You have the wrong approach. Hits are not the enemy. You want the team that will score you the most points.

Preferably you want to achieve this whilst minimising hits, however, there's not much point in minimising hits if you don't have the right players who are going to score you points - in this scenario you are better off taking the occasional hit to get in the right players.

        Yep, in essence.

        If you think

        Player X - 4 > Player Y

then take the hit. It's as simple as that

Think you have to use hits, especially early in the season when building TV and then later in the season to set up for DGW before WC. Took 21 hits and finished 75th

I don't have the time but would be super interesting to see collated captaincy stats for the top 10k using FPL statistic

Like what % of their total score was captaincy points, their captaincy points as a % of their potential total. And then to compare that to 10 "average teams"

eh? we've got 5 slots for which i have an embarrassment of mids to fill and 3 forward slots which is a struggle to fill at times. Dont want to reduce my options further.
