Thierry Henry returns to Arsenal on a short-term loan deal. Chris Brunt is expected to be sidelined for a couple of months with an ankle injury, while the injuries rack up for Spurs and Everton ahead of the final match of gameweek 20 next Wednesday:

Arsenal have confirmed this afternoon that Thierry Henry has re-joined the club on a short-term loan deal. With Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh heading off to the African Cup of Nations, Arsene Wenger is short in numbers up front and, with Wenger revealing Robin Van Persie will be rested for the FA Cup clash against Leeds, Henry is in line for action. Wenger admitted the forward is a couple of weeks away from full fitness and although Jack Wilshere is not expected to come back from an ankle injury before next month, Thomas Vermaelen is in line for a return after the Gunners trip to Swansea next gameweek.

Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have both been ruled out out of Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with neighbours City this Sunday. Evans continues to struggle with a calf injury, while Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Smalling is hopeful of a return to training on Monday, though is still suffering from “a really bad bout of tonsillitis”.

Everton have confirmed via their twitter feed this afternoon that Phil Jagielka could be sidelined for up to six weeks after scans revealed he suffered medial ligament damage in the midweek match at home to Bolton. David Moyes has plenty of other injury worries ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Tamworth. Jack Rodwell, Tim Cahill and Ross Barkley will not be risked, with Everton still to travel to Spurs on Wednesday in the final match of gameweek 20. Reports have also suggested that Tony Hibbert is struggling with a groin problem. Moyes confirmed Leon Osman requires surgery to remove floating bone in his knee, while Royston Drenthe, Marouane Fellaini and Seamus Coleman may be close to a comeback this weekend.

Adam Bogdan looks set to continue in goal this weekend for Bolton as Owen Coyle takes his side to Macclesfield Town. Jussi Jaaskelainen is still suffering from a thigh strain and will be giving a chance to recuperate before the Trotters’ next league game, away to Man United.

Wigan’s Albert Crusat has been given the all-clear after being subbed off with a back problem in Wigan’s 4-1 home thrashing by Sunderland. The Spaniard replaced Victor Moses in the Latics starting XI, with the latter benched for the first time this season, and Roberto Martinez admitted Crusat should feature more often in his first-team thoughts in the months ahead:

It was a real shame he had to come off against Sunderland, because he was having a massive impact on the game. But he will get plenty of opportunities to show what he can do during the second half of the season.

Alex McLeish has revealed Shay Given is making good progress from a hamstring strain. While the keeper won’t feature this weekend in the FA Cup, Big Eck has admitted there is a chance Given will recover in time for Villa’s next league game at home to Everton.

Harry Redknapp confirmed this morning that both Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson are available for selection as Spurs face Cheltenham in the FA Cup this weekend. The Tottenham boss received bad news on the injury front, though, with William Gallas and Sandro expected to be sidelined for a considerable amount of time, after scans revealed both players picked up calf tears in the recent 1-0 win over West Brom. Scott Parker is also unavailable after picking up a “bad bang” on the knee against Swansea, according to his manager.

Jamie O’Hara is making rapid progress from his recent double hernia operation. The midfielder has, of course, been absent since gameweek 15, but according to the Wolves official website, he has an “outside chance” of making a dramatic return against former club Spurs in gameweek 21, with Mick McCarthy certainly expecting him back within the next fortnight.

Roberto Di Matteo presided over Chelsea’s Friday press conference today and revealed both Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou will leave to join up with the Ivory Coast squad tomorrow. The club had hoped the pair would be available for their FA Cup clash with Portsmouth but, as expected, they will report for international duty ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations. Di Matteo also revealed Michael Essien is expected to return to training by the end of the month.

West Brom have confirmed Chris Brunt is to undergo surgery after fracturing his ankle against Everton on New Year’s Day. The Irishman is expected to be sidelined for eight to ten weeks as a result.

'Arry looking at Ba apparently as he has a release clause.
Probably a lot cheaper wage wise than Adebayor and fulfills a similar role in the side. One for the summer rather than now I imagine.

          Not at all.

Jkisthe1 - I'm sure people were probably saying the same amount Andy Carroll last season. That's not to say I think Ba is immediately comparable to Carroll, I think he's a much better player.

You can't just assume that at a better team, a forward will score more goals. When playing for the better sides, teams are inevitably more defensive and you're afforded much less time and space as a forward.

Ba is cheaper than Ade in price and wages, and needs less chances to score. He has 15 goals this season, imagine what he score playing for United, City Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs.

Andy Carroll has never been used properly by Kenny, nor given a proper run of games, this is not a problem you generally find with 'Arry.

Darren Bent is another example. Scores prolifically for mid-table Premier League teams, but his scoring record at Spurs was significantly worse than everywhere else he's been.

I think that's becuse he's the main man at mid-table teams, at Spurs he was competing with 3 other expensive strikers for a starting place.

Also realise that Adebayor & Carroll have previously operated as a lone striker with a supporting forward, now they get marked to hell and it is the talented breaking midfielders around them that get the goals. Ba & yakubu operate in sides where they are the main option for goals as they spend large parts of a game without the ball.

I would be prepared to bet that most of Ba's goals come within 30 seconds of them securing possession and I would also reckon this was the same for Carroll when in the same team.

What I think is that Bent needs space, as does Bah. Against bigger sides, smaller teams tend to go defensive (at least not attacking) so forwards for the bigger sides aren't allowed that space? Just a thought.

Bent did worse at Spurs as they are a footballing side and he doesn't fit into a team like that. That's why I'm surprised that Liverpool are in for him as they are at their best when playing quick, short passing football. Bent has the least amount of touches out of any other Premiership player on average...all he can do is get into decent areas and finish to a reasonable level.

Thoughts on this WC team (assuming all players are fit by the deadline):
    Vorm Krul

    Brown Simpson BAE Vermaelen Smalling

    Bale Dempsey Sessegnon Pedersen M.Davies

    RVP Sturridge Aguero

Too risky leaving out the seasoned performers such as silva, nani etc? Or good call for next few weeks?

    repost

ok folks not wildcarding this week so just a RMT and suggestion this time. (I keep changing my mind over United coverage in mine from Valencia, to Nani, to Anderson, to Cleverley)

    Friedel

    Raylor Jones BAE

    Nani (c) Bale Donovan Silva

    Sturridge, RvP _______

    Subs: Vorm McAuley Brown, Tiote

1FT and 0.9 in bank, the blank is Ba so it’s who to get in for him

I’m aware Tiote is away as well, but he’s usually 3rd choice sub anyway so not taking a hit for that.

Some people having their say on who's gonna be bright for the future:

"Tony Hibbert will undoubtedly be in the England line up in the next two years. This season he has been Mr. Reliable at right back and for a 21-year-old he has shown remarkable maturity and will be a credit to the England set up.
      Robbie G, Everton, UK"

"There is one player that all seem to have forgotten about - Wayne Bridge of Southampton.

I've always said Silva was a season keeper, but I have been considering taking him out which is probably crazy. Got him right at the start of the game at 9.5, so it will cost me an extra 1.0 to get him back. Might downgrade him to dempsey, and upgrade my shocking defense...where my most expensive defender is Senderos at 4.3!

some nice fixtures for them... figueroa last season made me some attacking points, I'm willing to take a punt onhim, as to McClean, I think Sunderland are finding form, and might be a good way to get some from it...

for a wildcard team which option is better

    a) Caulker and Cabaye

    b) Cahill and Moses

    rest of team would be

    Sorensen, Friedel

    Richards, Brown, Senderos, Williamson

    Valencia, Sess, Bale, Silva

    RvP, Aguero, Sturridge

I feel like Cahill would give me extra big team defensive coverage, but Cabaye and Sess obviously have perfect home/away rotation.

who are your keepers Doorsa. Is Friedel too much invested in a keeper?

He has a high number of cleanies and second highest saves of any keeper, but maybe a Krul/Vorm or Sorensen/Vorm combo would be better and free up a bit of cash?

I just used my Wild card and made up this team

    Krul | Vorm
    Enrique/Kompany/walker
    Sess/Bale/Silva/Nani
    Yak/Rvp(c)/Ade

    Simpson/Caulker/Ferguson

    Team value 106.4M
    Bank 1M
    A) Im thinking of dropping ade for aguero (would lose 0.4m in value) and downgrading enrique to kelly (or 4.9 worth)
    B) Or upgrading Yak to sturridge and downgrading enrique to ____ (5.5 Worth)

    C) Or Aguero + sturridge and re jiggle my team

    Please rate the wc team

and say A B C or recommend me something else thanks!!

Derry and Pilkington need to go, Derry will get you 2 points a game max, and Pilkington is a Norwich midfielder they get rotated faster than the Wheel of Fortune. Lose Ade down to Sturridge, Jose Enrique to a Spurs defender (BAE or Walker, or Dawson if he's back), switch Derry for someone like Dyer and upgrade Pilko to Sess

Bardsley could be inspired. Much more exciting than Brown.

Lot of faith in a somewhat shakey Stoke defence, though perhaps tighter with Huth back.

Prefer Dempsey to mata. Sorensen slight rotation risk and not great fixtures. Not sure about cabaye. Better options than Bardsley available such as those in Newcastle defence. BAE hasn't got great fixtures. Apart from that it's fine

imo, you'll get more clean sheets from Liverpool than Chelsea. Chelsea's strategy is to outscore opponents, while Liverpool plays a more conservative game.

If you can afford him then yes but with so many expensive players out there it's difficult to fit him in.

Leaves 0.0 in the bank but any problem with the following...

    Sorensen - Stockdale (Schwarzer)

    Kompany - Terry - Senderos - Shotton - Caulker

    Bale - Silva - Dempsey - Walters - Sessegnon

    Sturridge - RVP - Aguero

Tough call. Both attack from midfield. If you have funds at hand get Dempsey, if you have limited funds get Walters or Sess.

Ya i have the funds for Dempsey alright but i like Walters he's liable to score against anyone, i have Sess. Probably go with Demps, cheers

You're welcome After my WC I could add Sess, Donovan and Demps to my midfield of Nani and Bale - by ditching HBA, Walters and Osman.

    Stockdale Vorm

    Simpson Shotton Kompany Clichy Naylor

    Dempsey Moses Bale Nani Etherington

    RVP Aguero Fletcher

Thinking of taking a punt on Bendtner? Mad or inspired?

    Random question chaps..

Does anyone know if changing your team name can bugger up your team i.e remove you from your leagues?? The new name is naturally to wind up one of my mates but is not rude so should not be suspended on the basis of being offensive??

Or am I better just leaving it as is?

    Cheers

    RM-WC-T:

    Krul, Vorm

    RTaylor, Huth, Micah, Hanley, Rangel

    Bale, Vaughn, Silva, Lampard, Dempsey

    RVP, Aguero, Yakubu

Not sold on either Hanley or Vaughn but looking to be a bit different whilst still covering bases. Missing Utd coverage. Could do Lampard->Gerrard and Aguero->Rooney. However Utd are stuttering, and I see Aguero equally Rooney more or less, but Lampard is likely to do more than Gerrard.

Semi-tempted by an uber-cheap defence, plus Kompany, for my w/c, meaning I could afford:

    Krul Mignolet
    Kompany Senderos Shotton Simpson Naylor
    Nani VDV Bale Silva Moses
    RVP Aguero Yak

If necessary I can go Nani -> Dempsey, Yak -> Ba (when he returns) or Sturridge (if I want Chelsea coverage)

    Thoughts?

I'm not sure I want a Pool defender - I was originally going with Enrique, but I'm not convinced by their fixtures after the next 3.
