Scout Notes on today’s FA Cup action will be heading your way tomorrow, for now, we thought we’d bring you word that, as we did in January last season, we’ll be introducing a half-season membership. The price of membership to Fantasy Football Scout will drop from £15 to £10 for the remainder of the season on Monday.

This half season offer will give access to the Members Area, Members Ticker and Members articles, right up until June 1 and arrives in time for those still pondering their January wildcard selections.

We’re currently working on updated Player Projections that will offer our view on the players for the remaining 18 gameweeks. We’re also producing some FAQ based tutorials that will help new and existing members get the most from the Members area and tools. We expect both to be published early next week to coincide with the half-season offer. Click here for details on the benefits available to Members.

Coverage on the Scout gets back to normal next week after the busy holiday programme, with our usual regulars making reappearance. We’re also unveiling a new guest writer who will be contributing members and non-members articles for the remainder of the season. With at least two new writers to be announced from the recent “Scouting for Writers” article, the next few weeks should see plenty of progress. More on that next week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Wildcard activated! Can I ask u experts what a decent team value is at this stage of the season? Didnt there used to be something called the rich list or something? What is the highest any of you have got up to whilst playing the normal game (I.e. rather than just playing for value, and making hundreds of transfers). Am aiming for team worth 110 by end of WCGW. Hoping my Manchester assets perform in the FACR3 tomorrow to boosted their sales!

    lost on last page:

we talked about this last week but i’m entertaining the thought of Cabaye > HBA and Walters > Albrighton.

still keeping some NEW cover and Shotton OOP for STO.

it’ll be good while it lasts……

someone posted cabaye's scores here somewhere, where he compared his scores when playing with and without tiote, and he was better when tiote was around - not by a huge amount but better. that said, he's getting better as the season has gone on, and is at least partly on frees now, so maybe worth a punt.

Hows this ridicous WC team looking:

    Vorm Moriera

    Cahill, Senderos, Komp, Richards, Caulker

Silva, Dempsey, Bale, Ben Arfa, Sess

    Morrison, Roon, RVP

Fancy Rooney to wreck Bolton this weekend, then arsenal (scored both hat tricks there earlier) Also he’s a big game player, so utd’s fixtures might not be too bad for him. I figure I’ll get him now, and then dump him for a new signing, if some big chelsea signing happens. Also don’t want aguero, cause I like my double man city def.

It's important to think less about what has happened and more about what WILL happen. Looking at his and Fulham's form and fixtures it looks likely that Dempsey will score very well in the coming weeks.

    Wildcard

    Hi Folks,

Planning W/C which is going to be done after matches next week. Planned it there now and had 0.1 million remaining, but that is with Stockdale included and he will surely need to replaced. This also excludes price rises in forthcoming days.

What I was going to ask is replacing Moses with Ferguson (who doesn’t play) seem a good idea to be able to afford doing what I want to do ? Would mean a front line of RVP, Aguero and The Yak. Missed the RVP boat, you see, so would be buying him at 13.2 mill. !!

    Thoughts…?

I wouldn't mind for having Ferguson as 5th MF, if you have 5 playing DF. If the 5th mid will come in as sub for mostly 1-2 points, it wouldn't be different from having DF comes in as sub.

Ferguson was never a good idea.

Those that had him in at the start to "save money" were just storing up problems for later on in the season. I reckon those with Ferguson have struggle to field 11 players at times over the past couple of GW's.

If you really want RVP, i would be tempted to cut elsewhere.

Kompany - Woodgate - Jose Enrique - Warnock - Smalling
    Silva - Mata - Sessegnon - Moses - Brunt
    RVP - Adebayor - Sturridge

    After WC:

    Al-Habsi - Mignolet
Kompany - Woodgate - Clark - Phil Jones - Shorey
    Silva - Mata - Sessegnon - Moses - Cabaye
    RVP - Adebayor - Agbonlahor

Why Al-Habsi? Great shot stopper of course but Wigan's defence can't be relied upon. I had him on the bench for his clean sheet and pen save vs. Liverpool then he got 0 at home to Sunderland when I played him last week, so infuriating.

One thing I will say, if you do go with him and Wigan continue to play 3 at the back, look at the formation of the opponent. When playing a team with 2 up front they have a good chance of success as they'll always have a spare man at the back to sweep up. When playing a team with 1 up they'll be left with one redundant CB, meaning they're left with a numbers disadvantage elsewhere on the pitch. That's my theory on partly why they got battered by Sunderland, who played Bendy as the lone striker.

    The wildcard paradox:

    A) Play it early, now even, and get the players we want to get now before their prices sky-rocket. We can even make a nice profit on players that late WCers bring in later.

    B) See the January transfer window through and re-evaluate the players' prospects based on who gets injured, drops out of form or favour with the manager or is replaced by a new signing. This involves sitting and watching some of our own holdings drop in value and players we want to bring in rise. By the time we play the WC we may be 0.5M+ poorer meaning our original WC plan is no longer affordable. Really we have to hope that some new information comes to light that changes our perception of player prospects, otherwise our WC team will not have the quality we could previously afford.

How do more experienced (and more successful) players than me feel about this?

            This;

I'm no super professional either, but this is the most prudent path. Not buying into the whole, "their prices skyrocket" narrative. That sounds like the excuse of someone whose WC is burning a hole in their pocket.

Between the two options that you pose I would go for HBA, Sess and Yak - as I believe they can score/assist more goals. Only problem is that HBA hasn't started regularly of late and Yakubu seems to get his goal in batches - not on a week-by-week basis. No point in having HBA if you have a weak midfield. Likewise for Yak and weak strikers.

Once again I have to say LOL after hearing the pathetic criticism directed at HBA. For a "bench warmer" (5.4) he has scored 2 goals and bagged an assist in the space of a few games (including today's cup match). He will hopefully start more matches. Provided that you have a strong midfield there is no harm in giving him a try for your GW team.
