Fantasy Premier League have revealed the forthcoming release of a new draft game for the 2017/18 season.

After much rumour and suggestion, the news arrived via an update to the official app and offered some early information on the game type.

First things first, it’s important to stress that the new FPL draft game will be free to play and run alongside the “traditional” game as an addition to our season.

The game will allow for the formation of leagues with between 2-16 members. Within those leagues, teams will consist of the usual 15-man squads but, of course, the squads will be unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format. We can set up leagues or put ourselves in public leagues with “strangers”. If you really want to, you can enter up to ten leagues over the season.

Details on how the draft will work are yet to be released but it is stated that no budget will be in place. Therefore the draft will take place without player prices, operating a similar “snake” draft system that we’ve seen in other games such as Dugout FC, with players “taking it in turns” to select players until a squad is complete.

The game will use the exact same scoring rules as FPL, with bonus points applying.

This new FPL game follows two years on from Ultimate Fantasy Premier League – a version that was closed for the 2016/17 season. Many of us miss that incarnation and will welcome this new development as an addition to our seasons.

Certainly for those who can recall auction nights in the original Fantasy League, FPL Draft could represent a blissful return to those halcyon days where we battled to get Alan Shearer in our squads.

We will bring you more information on FPL Draft in the weeks to come, including our take on the strategies involved.

The classic FPL game remains on course for a release in the week of July 10.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Don't fancy him at Utd as much. Visions of him losing confidence and not scoring much.

Lukaku has 9 goals and 4 assists from 9(3) appearances against West Ham - his best record against a Premier League team.

Still haven't decided. I accomplished plenty of goals last year with the spare time. Did I miss much? Was it a nice season? I would have done good for sure with Chelsea doing so good and being dominant.

Give me your opinion, should I definitely quit or ride it again?

although he had a very good goals to min ratio last year i do believe that it may be too soon to judge him at this stage. Seems more of a rotation risk than aguero at current

I've barely considered Aguero yet. Price will determine how much we consider him for GW1, but I think it's unlikely he'll be near my team unless he's extraordinarily cheap, ie 11m

i think he will be 12.0. That may 'just' allow me to have him and Kane up top in a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2

Not a world class player imo but a perfect flat track bully. United have struggled big time on flat tracks the last 3-4 years.

His EO will surely be touching 100 % in GW1 if this deal happens.

Flat track bully? Are you kidding me? he is the ultimate troll in FPL, he performs against better teams and struggles against weaker opposition !!!

        He's not a FPL troll.

I averaged 26 points while captaining him this season (6-7 times) which goes to show he is fairly consistent against weaker teams. He will destroy the poor teams and struggle against top opposition (but get the occasional goal).

Indeed - he's the greatest anti-troll of them all.

Although I think the ManU in for Lukaku rumour has been circulated for other reasons. Man U have a lot to gain from the rumous - as it shows Real Madrid they have other options than Morata. Also Everton have a lot to gain from it as it shows their is competition for their player - which in turn pushes his price up when Chelsea come to negotiate.

Seems to me to be one of those negotiating strategy rumours by either Everton or ManU.

Have I read it right Jonty....

If I have a captain on Saturday and then transfer him out on Saturday night for a sunday player then I can captain my new pick in that same week as a Sunday pick...
