Joe Hart has pulled out of training today ahead of Wednesday’s England friendly against France with a suspected back injury. Reports suggest that Hart went down quite soon after the session commenced and team-mates rushed over to discover that the England No 1 was in some serious pain. He was eventually helped from the field and it is still unclear how serious the extent of the injury is, although Fabio Capello doesn’t have any major worries…

“Hart, the doctor is waiting to decide what happened. We think it will not be a big problem for him.”

The Manchester City goalkeeper is the most owned in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game by quite some distance, being used by 30.3% of managers. He is also the highest scoring player in this position with a total of 72 points and has recently notched-up a notable three clean sheets in as many games.

If the injury does prove to be a lengthy one then Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini does of course have the ready-made replacement in the shape of the dependable Shay Given, priced at £5.4million in the FPL.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

good people of FFS i bring to you my theory that bale is now better value than van der vaart. last match 'arry moved van der vaart onto the wing and played 2 strikers. defoe's return would make this move even more likely, especially in home games. van der vaart is cleaning up in home games and keeping quiet in away games. is it time to switch back to bale? van der vaart playing right mid for 8.3mil or bale playing left mid for 6.9mil?

Van Der Vaart on penalties and most free kicks swings it for me, stays in my team

I doubt that Defoe has ever scored a penalty in his life.... He's hopeless at them.

Can't remember his record but I think he's missed at least half of his last 10. After Pav's miss on Saturday, I'm pretty certain that VDV will take the next one regardless of who else is on the pitch.

Vdv plays free form/ roaming and takes set pieces.
      Bale is always double marked.

i'm saying this as i'm feeling pressurised to get van der vaart, but with upcoming fixtures if van der vaart is not playing up front with crouch and isn't on penalties either i can't see the value in him.

don't have either. the blackburn game was the first time vdv didn't have a ludicrous number of shots, yes he got 10 points still but a corner and a handball isn't the most appetising. he was much more tempting playing up front with crouch.
we'll have to see where 'arry plays him in the next few games and once defoe returns

The thing for me is that i think VDV seems to want to cut in and shoot more. Seems more selfish, which works for me in ff terms.

I have VDV at the moment, so will keep the faith - if his output stays less than Bales for the enxt few weeks i may reconsider though.

I'm with you apple. Seeing how Spurs played with two strikers (which they will surely do more often with Defoe's return), it made me yearn for Bale back in my team. Two strikers means it's harder for Bale to be doublemarked.

it's hard to argue against vdv right now but i don't think he will be so essential if he's on the right. and like you say 2 strikers would make bale more tempting too, more to hit with his crosses and less of vdv dominating attacking play. i know it's only one game but i'm not sure a corner and a handball assist is proof van der vaart will continue producing the goods at right mid. obviously 1 game isn't enough to disprove it either.

                  its an interesting one

id expect 1 up top away from home with vdv behind crouch.

i also think hell play bale left back, lennon right and vdv in a free-ish sort of role with bale covering the whole flank when they go 2 up top

                  might be wrong tho

Despite Bale's points were over 2 for the first time in 5 games, his performance was deserving of much more. Several times Pav and Crouch missed wide open headers, and touch in provided by the Welsh.

HR has acknowledged his speed/confidence and crossing ability by moving him to LM. With him out there spurs attack becomes more balanced and harder to check. (tall forward only good for headers, short quick defoe, vdv on right who loves to shoot back post but has great passing, little luca's great ball handling and midfield control)

spurs have multiple options in the back, and given Bale's attacking powers, I doubt Redknapp will change something that worked so well.

I've had the opposite fortune, my strategy for the last 5,6 or even 7 gameweeks have been to get players in with a decent game, consulting the picks because I know if it all goes tits up I can solve it with the wildcard! I did it with Zhirkov and he got me 9 the week I got him, which was the only week I intended on keeping him!

Fair enough, I should've asked, is it for a hit? If not then go for it by all means, but it is questionable IMO to spend points on it, mind you, Adam is now on my watchlist.

Adam is a good buy, I'd say. More BPs than any other player this season, on pens and (most) free-kicks. Hard to predict when he's gonna score big, though, I had him on the bench for his 10pt and 13pt hauls 🙁

    I have a defence of:

    Krul/Foster
    Elmo/Simpson/Vidic/Jagielka/Boateng

I have 3.0 in the bank and am generally happy with rest of team:

    VDV/Fabregas/Nani/Albrighton/Adam
    Piquionne/Elmander/Drogba

I honestly can't see a worthy replacement for Elmo this week, I don't trust Bolton to miraculously start keeping cleanies all of a sudded, despite their fixtures. Don't really like Sunderland's chances of cleanies either. Am tempted to leave extra transfer go through to next week to see if maybe Elmo (however unlikely) gets a run out, and then decide. Thoughts?

Thinking along the same lines myself. Even if he misses the odd game he's still playing in midfield whenever he plays, and although he's not got many goals/assists he does have BPs to show for it so far and that could improve. Throw in Sunderland's great defensive record, and I think that unless you're either struggling to put together a defence each week, or if you bought him very recently and stand to lose money (he's still worth 4.5-4.8 if not 5+ really) he's worth holding onto for a while at least.

I benched him at the weekend against Arsenal and he only came into my side by automatic sub, if I am benching a 5.8m defender 2 weeks in a row, you have to be wondering whether he is worth it

He's been playing as a DM lately, but he can play anywhere in midfield or on the wing. He's going to Barca because most people think that's the awesomest club. Barca is getting him because he can sit on the bench for cover and he only cost a couple million because his contract would have run out in the summer. I'm just glad he's leaving Holland as I can't stand him.

    So what's the consensus?

    A) Terry injury means Bosingwa is pretty much nailed on, therefore transfer him in.

    B) Terry injury means less Chelsea clean sheets, therefore avoid their defenders.

    C) An unhealthy mix of both, no conclusion.

      (C) most definitely, they are not in-form, they look low on confidence, that being said Ivanovic and Alex are still a formidable partnership, Bosingwa and Ferriera will share RB to my mind, making Alex and Ivanovic the cheapest "dead set" starters outside of Cech.

    lads, help needed!

At the start of the season i thought using my two wildcards around gw 13 and gw 26. Last 4 GWs were awesome for me, saw me shoot up 19k overall from 146k.

what should be my strategy for using my wildcards?

Now I'm thinking of using one in gw 23 and other on gw 30. suggestions?

I think you just have to wait and see to be honest, I don't know there is a particular game week you can pin point for the WC. If you have a bad week injury wise it could be a lifesaver. Then again, I used mine way too early and so I'll be a lot more cautious with the second one!

The second WC can be anytime between gw 23 - 27( if i remember right), so my best way to use my WC to full potential is wither usin one in gw 16 and other in gw 26 or like above mentioned!

Yeah, it was more in response to Finch saying he would be more cautious with his second wildcard.

Everton Spurs Utd Arsenal. Are going to be very interesting indeed. If Welbeck made them look average imagine what Bale, Rooney, Fabs and co will do to that defence!

I originally had kolarov but thought boeteng was more nailed on atm. West brom are as bad as wolves for keeping clean sheets and imo foley is more of a threat, however i do have 1.1 in the bank so i could upgrade him?

Well Boateng was becasue Kolarov was yet to start after coming back from injury. He started at the weekend so more starts will surely follow? And less competition for his place too, and is apparently more handy. Looking long term it's a no brainer imo.

West brom aren't the best but seem to be doing better than Wolves at the moment, if you have spare cash then neither would be the best option probably.

Boeteng seems to be certain to play than kolarov atm and is only 0.1 dearer but i'd also take kolarov if i knew he was guaranteed games!!

I'm tempted by a double down on Citeh defenders for the next 5. I know that will end in rotation disaster though.

I'd spread it over a couple of weeks if i were you, if they don't keep a clean sheet you'll be p1ssed, no?

Yeah it's a bit dumb, but that's how i rolllllll. Dependent on Hart being fit too. City are almost guaranteed CS's too remember as they play 7 defensive players each game.

Looking at the (few) WC teams posted here, it seems that ppl go back to the strong/expensive defense we saw 2y ago (when it was a 'must' to have one of Vid/Rio, a CHE def and a LIV def).

Not sure it is really the way to go as CS seem more and more random (take this WE, Che/Man U/Liv/Ars did not get any CS, while the likes of Bpool/WH and co got one). With a (hopefully) fit Torres and the come back of Shrek and Lamps, is it a wise move to go long strong defense?
