Ledley King suffers a hamstring tear and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Alejandro Faurlin confirms he is ruled out for the rest of the season, Alan Pardew mulls over a switch to the flank for Hatem Ben Arfa and West Brom’s injury woes rack up:

Ledley King is looking at an extended time on the sidelines after tearing a hamstring. Reports suggest the centre-half could be out for up to eight weeks after suffering the injury in training last Friday and with William Gallas tearing a calf muscle against West Brom last week, Harry Redknapp’s options at the heart of defence are limited. Luckily for Redknapp, Michael Dawson returned to action in the weekend FA Cup win over Cheltenham and is available for selection, in addition to Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Bassong.

Arsene Wenger has dismissed the idea that Thierry Henry could stay on loan at Arsenal until the end of the season. Reports have suggested the New York Red Bulls man could perhaps remain at the Emirates till May, in a deal similar to the one that saw AC Milan retain the services of David Beckham a couple of years back, but it is not a scenario that Wenger has considered:

We have promised that we will send the player back so we have not spoken about that at all. Let’s hope we have the problem. If we have a problem then it means he has done well so I hope we have the problem. But at the moment I can just say no, it is not envisaged at all.

Alejandro Faurlin has confirmed he is ruled out for the rest of the season. The midfielder was stretchered off in QPR’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with MK Dons at the weekend and took to twitter to reveal he has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Alan Pardew has suggested he is tempted to play Hatem Ben Arfa on the wing after the Frenchman’s wonder goal at the weekend. Ben Arfa was initially fielded up front alongside Leon Best for the game against Blackburn but his impact on the game only flourished when he was moved to the flank after Gabriel Obertan was withdrawn. Although the player is desperate for a “number 10” type of role, Pardew feels Ben Arfa’s performance benefitted from the shift:

It did help him. Before I arrived, there were suggestions that he had played wide and didn’t want to play there. But Hatem has to understand that it’s about the team, and where we think he fits in best is where we are going to put him. But his talent was there for everybody to see today.

West Brom’s injury woes increased at the weekend after Gareth McAuley picked up a calf strain in the FA Cup win over Cardiff. The centre-half limped off before the end of the 4-2 win and with Jonas Olsson also currently sidelined with a calf problem, Roy Hodgson now has nine players on the treatment table ahead of next weekend’s clash with Norwich.

Seamus Coleman suffered a recurrence of a thigh injury in Everton’s win over Tamworth at the weekend. The Irishman has played only 30 minutes since gameweek 15 and was subbed off before the hour mark at Goodison on Saturday when the problem flared up yet again.

Steve Kean hopes to have Chris Samba, David Dunn and Junior Hoilett available for Blackburn’s home clash with Fulham on Saturday. The trio missed Rovers’ 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Newcastle last weekend, with Samba a last-minute call-off, due to ankle and hamstring issues. With Martin Olsson and Gael Givet also returning, Kean’s injury problems appear to be lessening as he looks to plunder a crucial three points against the Cottagers.

FPL have added the newest January acquisitions to the player list today. Thierry Henry comes in at 7.5, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been priced at 5.0 in the Swansea midfield, while Paul Scholes has returned to the Man United squad with a 5.5 price tag against his name.

Man City confirmed this afternoon they have lodged an appeal over Vincent Kompany’s sending off in yesterday’s FA Cup defeat by Man United. The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden has suggested the verdict should be known by 6pm tomorrow evening, with the case being fast-tracked due to City’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool taking place on Wednesday.

    Anyone considering Lindegaard?

Hes priced at 4.4. United dont have good fixtures coming up but united are m ore likely to keep it clean regardless of opponents.

Im thinking of starting him every game and if he doesnt start then my sub keeper comes in

Yep cool thing is keepers almost never sub so it's a safe sub in.
Lindegaard/Vorm is quite possible, China Mag put a list of rotation up and Mun/Swa is pretty good (Ful/Swa is the best).

        My defence is:

        Lindegaard/Vorm

Richards Enrique Simpson Kelly Caulker (The last 3 will be rotated so Vorm/Kelly can meet the Ful/Swa rotation needs).

Wish I had that 0.1 I need to sell Caulker to Shotton but the would mean selling Lindegaard for Mignolet or Sell Vorm to Sorenson and swap Kelly for Shotton. Im not too sure if Sorenson will be rotated with Begovic at some stage though

I think Pulis is pretty ruthless and decisive and has plumped on Sorenson as first choice after some dodginess from Begovic. Would kee pyour team as it is, solid. I reckon you can get Shotton if you change Simpson to Williamson/Santon.

Very valid point. With Osman, Sturridge injuries and the prospect of Kompany's ban I am facing somewhat of a crisis this week, but am seriously tempted to take a 4 pt hit to swap Osman out for this gw to save my WC. May sound mad, but I think the benefits of holding out on the WC is worth a 4pt hit

Dempsey's a goal scorer, and if not he assists. Fulham are riding 2 good wins and having decent fixtures. It's whether you prefer Valencia or Nani, though omitting Nani lets you get Richards, an attacking City defender and a must have if you ask me.

I'm not sold on Mata, chiefly because Chelsea are pants but also while he's a great player you never know who will get the points in that team.

Simpson a doubt for the next game with a shoulder injury. If you want certainty go for Williamson.

Not 'certain' but he has a good chance of starting. He still needs to start the next two or three for me to be sure. He's played well so far and I think I might bring him in on my wildcard side.

    Sorensen - Stockdale/Schwarzer

    BAE - Enrique - Caulker - Shotton - Kelly

    Bale - Silva - Nani/Mata - Walters - Dempsey

    Aguero - RVP - Sturridge

Too much money in spent on midfield?
Is a Walters / Dempsey Rotation policy a good idea?

People who keep saying teams are 'generic' are often the ones with the most generic team. Some players will crop up in pretty much all sides as they are good FPL picks. If you want your team a little different then try out a few new tactics - such as doubling or tripling on defences or the none obvious route into a good attacking side.

People who keep saying generic actually wind me up a bit. When you click the link the teams they have could often be described as generic. There are very good reasons a lot of people have the same players, mainly because they are the players likely ro score most points.

Having a generic team is sensible, there's a reason why those players are in lots of teams.

The question is why are people asking for such a generic team to be rated - if it's the same as everyone else's team it's probably fine.

I am not saying a generic team is bad but if you come on here and basically ask the forum to pick ur team then it will be full of the latest bandwagons and must haves and all RMTs in any given week become practically identical.

The other problem I have is that a lot of people on here will big up a particular player because they have him and want to see him do well. Another thing is some peoples advice on here is unreliable (to be kind)

I just think it is far more productive to ask questions about players you are thinking about or ideas you have rather than saying this is my team - what would you do? its pointless.

FWIW I wouldnt ever write out my WC team on here but I would ask about players I am considering. Surely this is a more sensible approach.

Yup a complaint of generic should be accompanied with a non-generic suggestion, otherwise it's even less useful than a generic suggestion.

After all the number crunching and monitoring of form I think it's difficult for the community to miss a genuine must-have though.

Seem to remember someone pasting a link for a web programme which showed you which keepers linked well for home and away. Wish i could find it again as i have decided that even though Vorm has done great so far his fixtures do really take a turn for the worst so i need a new keeper combo!

    Friedel
    Jones Simpson Tierney*
    Walters Dempsey Nani(c) Bale
    RVP(vc) Sturridge Adebayor

    Hennessey Hoolahan Shotton Jagielka*

Everything in the right order? Subs etc? 1 FT used on Cahill>Dempsey.

I'd be kinda anxious to use my WC this gw itself.

simpson, tierney, jags doubts. shotton has a tough game, so does walters.
jones might drop to the bench for how terrible he has been in the past 2-3 games. either that or might play CM again.
      hoolahoops not starting these days.
      studge doubt.
no city cover for wig, which should be a goal fest.

oh guess what - i have a similar situation 😕

Are you chasing a lead? All is not right at OT. Nani is out of sorts, I know he's explosive but unless you're chasing a lead VP(c) looks the more secure to me. Swansea play the same passing game as Arsenal and will come up short. It'll work against most teams but not against them. Bolton looked to have turned a corner too...

Swans are so defensively sound at home though, I thought Spurs played the same passing game as Swansea and they drew 1-1. I expect them to pull it out the bag again.

I'm leading...but have lost a lot of my lead in recent weeks in captaining the RVP at the wrong moments 🙁

Wellll, Swansea and Arsenal play more of a possession game while Spurs play a quick-passing game with riskier passes. Actually I reckon with such a matchup Swans-Arse will finish 0-0. Finished only 1-0 last time too.

Lindegaard/Vorm combo: play Lindegaard everyweek with Vorm on the bench will let you go to 3 ways:

    1) Lindegaard CS + Vorm CS = waste money, even Vorm can score more with his saves.

    2) Lindeggard conceded + Vorm CS = last week, horrible way but still happen

    3) Lindegaard CS + Vorm conceded = good way. but you need luck to get them. because you need 3 conditions to get this way: Lindegaard plays (De Gea benched) + Lindegaard CS + Vorm conceded

Nice breakdown, but Lindegaard is cheaper than Vorm (unless you had him at the start) so hardly a waste of money going down way 1.

I see it as pretty simple - based on assumption that United CS more likely than Swansea CS (overall true) and assumption that goalkeepers never sub on or off (true) Lindegaard offers a more likely CS when he plays and no loss when he doesn't play because you have Vorm.

The only loss is not being able to rotate with another cheapie with a worst chance of a CS.

i said waste money that mean in that way, if you decide to choose Vorm is main role, you can play Vorm everyweek and buy 4M GK to back up him (Tremmel), not Lindegaard 4.4M and 1 slot ManU player.

I would break it down into two simple permutations. Compared to choosing Vorm and a 4m non-player, if you choose Lindy and bench Vorm:
          1) Lindy plays, Vorm plays: Lindy has better chance of CS
          2) Lindy doesn't play, Vorm plays: same.

So you gain a better chance of a CS at the cost of ~0.4m.

But the cost of 1 Man U slot is something to think about.
