Ledley King suffers a hamstring tear and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Alejandro Faurlin confirms he is ruled out for the rest of the season, Alan Pardew mulls over a switch to the flank for Hatem Ben Arfa and West Brom’s injury woes rack up:

Ledley King is looking at an extended time on the sidelines after tearing a hamstring. Reports suggest the centre-half could be out for up to eight weeks after suffering the injury in training last Friday and with William Gallas tearing a calf muscle against West Brom last week, Harry Redknapp’s options at the heart of defence are limited. Luckily for Redknapp, Michael Dawson returned to action in the weekend FA Cup win over Cheltenham and is available for selection, in addition to Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Bassong.

Arsene Wenger has dismissed the idea that Thierry Henry could stay on loan at Arsenal until the end of the season. Reports have suggested the New York Red Bulls man could perhaps remain at the Emirates till May, in a deal similar to the one that saw AC Milan retain the services of David Beckham a couple of years back, but it is not a scenario that Wenger has considered:

We have promised that we will send the player back so we have not spoken about that at all. Let’s hope we have the problem. If we have a problem then it means he has done well so I hope we have the problem. But at the moment I can just say no, it is not envisaged at all.

Alejandro Faurlin has confirmed he is ruled out for the rest of the season. The midfielder was stretchered off in QPR’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with MK Dons at the weekend and took to twitter to reveal he has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Alan Pardew has suggested he is tempted to play Hatem Ben Arfa on the wing after the Frenchman’s wonder goal at the weekend. Ben Arfa was initially fielded up front alongside Leon Best for the game against Blackburn but his impact on the game only flourished when he was moved to the flank after Gabriel Obertan was withdrawn. Although the player is desperate for a “number 10” type of role, Pardew feels Ben Arfa’s performance benefitted from the shift:

It did help him. Before I arrived, there were suggestions that he had played wide and didn’t want to play there. But Hatem has to understand that it’s about the team, and where we think he fits in best is where we are going to put him. But his talent was there for everybody to see today.

West Brom’s injury woes increased at the weekend after Gareth McAuley picked up a calf strain in the FA Cup win over Cardiff. The centre-half limped off before the end of the 4-2 win and with Jonas Olsson also currently sidelined with a calf problem, Roy Hodgson now has nine players on the treatment table ahead of next weekend’s clash with Norwich.

Seamus Coleman suffered a recurrence of a thigh injury in Everton’s win over Tamworth at the weekend. The Irishman has played only 30 minutes since gameweek 15 and was subbed off before the hour mark at Goodison on Saturday when the problem flared up yet again.

Steve Kean hopes to have Chris Samba, David Dunn and Junior Hoilett available for Blackburn’s home clash with Fulham on Saturday. The trio missed Rovers’ 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Newcastle last weekend, with Samba a last-minute call-off, due to ankle and hamstring issues. With Martin Olsson and Gael Givet also returning, Kean’s injury problems appear to be lessening as he looks to plunder a crucial three points against the Cottagers.

FPL have added the newest January acquisitions to the player list today. Thierry Henry comes in at 7.5, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been priced at 5.0 in the Swansea midfield, while Paul Scholes has returned to the Man United squad with a 5.5 price tag against his name.

Man City confirmed this afternoon they have lodged an appeal over Vincent Kompany’s sending off in yesterday’s FA Cup defeat by Man United. The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden has suggested the verdict should be known by 6pm tomorrow evening, with the case being fast-tracked due to City’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool taking place on Wednesday.

    Quick question guys. Say I am playing 3-4-3. If one of my defenders doesn't play, he gets subbed out, but I have on my bench this:

    Sub 1: MIDFIELD
    Sub 2: DEFENCE
    Sub 3: DEFENCE

    If my mid plays, I know he won't come in, so would it bring in sub 2/3 instead, or just leave it and none would come in at all?

    Sorry guys repost as page change

    Just started tinkering with my W/C and came up with the following, would appreciate your feedback please gents

    A) Vorm (Ruddy)
    Enrique/BAE/Cahill (if Chelsea) R Taylor Shotton
    Valencia / Ramires / McClean / Bale / Silva
    Adebayor / Van Persie / Sturridge

    +2.9 in bank to tinker with back line

    B) As above with Adebayor -> Aguero
    and Ruddy -> 4.6 keeper

    c) Adebayor -> Rooney
    Ramires -> Sess

    D) Start again!!!
    Am also considering losing Silva to Gerrard – is that madness – I have a lot of points to make up

    Considering how little Thierry Henry expects to have to do during his two-month loan-spell at Arsenal from American soccerball franchise the Big Apple Energy Drinks, the Fiver can't help but wonder why Arsene Wenger didn't just unscrew the recently unveiled statue of the Frenchman from its plinth outside the Emirates and put that sitting in the dug-out instead*. "It looks more like I'm going to be a bench player," he said, before deciding that sounded too much like hard work and quickly revising his opinion. "Or maybe not on the bench but more of an 'out of the side' type of player."

    Of course considering how famously astute a tactical innovator Wenger is, there's always the possibility he may use Henry as a false 'out of the side player', which could involve the Frenchman being in the side while simultaneously being out of the side - a state of affairs that ought to bamboozle Nasty Leeds for long enough at the Emirates in tonight's FA Cup third-round tie for Arsenal to put the tie to bed before their visitors from Yorkshire have figured out what foul chicanery is afoot.

    Now aged 34 and having been in retirement in the USA for the past year, Arsenal's non-playing player was quick to reassure Gooners concerned that he might not be quick enough to play at the highest level, or against Nasty Leeds, any more. "If you have the awareness to see things before other players, you can get away with not having your legs," he sniffed, as Arsenal doctors gulped nervously and finally realised why he'd looked so much shorter than they remembered in his medical.

    * In the interests of pre-empting inevitable reader pedantry, the Fiver would like it to be known that we are aware that the recently unveiled statue of Thierry Henry portrays him in celebratory knee-slide pose, which would render it difficult, if not impossible, to put it 'sitting' in the dugout. However, it could be hung upside down by its calves on an elevated common-or-garden dugout seat, even if this would leave the statue with its back to the action and unable to follow the game as it unfolds**. This problem could be overcome by the strategic placement of mirrors in front of the statue's upside-down face.

    ** In the interests of pre-empting inevitable reader pedantry, the Fiver would like it to be known that we are aware the recently unveiled statue of Thierry Henry was fashioned from bronze, a metal alloy comprised mainly of copper, and is therefore incapable of seeing anything as it is not equipped with the necessary organs to detect light and convert it into electro-chemical impulses in neurons.

      could score 3-4 EPL goals including couple of 90 min winners...

      I have the same front 8 as you so hard to see any improvement there.
      I would shuffle defence so they rotate better though - not worth having the million unless you plan to upgrade YAK in a couple of weeks?

    I've not seen much of Henry since he left Arsenal for Barca.

    Is he anywhere near as good as he was when he last played for them?

    Does anyone have a good link to a .PDF/book with the exact rules of when it's a sending off and not? I mean the exact wording if there is one, and from an official source please. It should be in the Laws of the Game but they just come up with the 'Violent Conduct' crap.

    Reason I'm wondering is because the commentators clearly have no idea and just go by their hunches, and they are influencing what we believe a alot.

        That was my thinking alright. Valencia is playing very well I think. The problem I see with team is I'd have to downgrade one of the forwards to bring in Kompany when he comes back.

      Both seem good options though, I'm getting Aguero back into my side soon, think he'll start picking up some big scores soon.

      At last - a decent question.
      Close this one - I doubt you could hold all three for 15 weeks anyway but injury & rotation aside.....I'd have to go with B.
      City's run of games, Valencia 0on the up and Sess will score about the same as Dempsey over the period - as he has done already.
