As promised, Fantasy Premier League Draft has been released and is now available.

The new game is free to play and runs in parallel with, and as an addition to, “traditional” FPL. If you’re registered for that game, you can immediately get involved with Draft.

The links don’t end there. The Draft uses the same scoring system as FPL with only one exception – there are no captains or vice captains.

The first step is to create or join a league.

Private leagues can include up to 16 managers, although the game itself states that eight is the recommended number. That is the limit for public leagues – you can enter those with random members of the FPL Draft community.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format.

The key selling point of Draft is that, within a league, each 15-man squad is unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

The draft system used is described as a “Snake Draft”, where managers take it in turns to select players until a squad is complete over 15 rounds. There is no budget or player prices.

League administrators can set a draft date and time for private leagues, while public league drafts begin 24 hours after the first team joins.

You can build a Watchlist before the draft, and this can act both as a shortlist of players you’re coveting and also a list to govern your automatic picks should you be “away from keyboard”.

Things get really interesting when we start dealing with transfers after the draft is complete. Bear with us on this.

Transfers, or “Transactions”, are made in two ways – managers can make what is called “Waiver Requests” or they can dip into the Free Agent pool.

After the draft, all the remaining players are up for grabs but, initially, only through waivers.

These operate like transfer requests from managers who propose both the player they want and the player being swapped out.

A weekly deadline is set for waivers to take place and, when that is reached, they operate a lot like the draft.

Indeed, before the season starts, managers get their first waiver requests granted in the reverse order of the draft. So if you went last in the draft in Round 1, you will be the first to get your waiver request processed.

However, once you have succeeded with a Waiver, you go to the back of the queue.

Things change when the season starts, with the waivers granted in reverse order of the league table. So if you’re bottom, your waiver will be granted first to give you the best opportunity to strengthen your team.

Players that are free agents become available once all the waiver requests are made. These consist of players remaining in the pool and players that were released by other managers in the previous Gameweek.

Managers can draw from the free agent pool 24 hours before the Gameweek deadline and it’s on a first come, first served basis.

There are no direct trades between managers.

That, I think, provides a summary of how the transfer system works. However, it is somewhat difficult to explain, and further examination of the rules may reveal other mechanics missed or misinterpreted.

Fantasy Premier League have published an FAQ on the Draft game, and the full rule set is available here.

In addition, community writer and experienced draft campaigner Pav A Nice Day has already published two essential articles. His tips for success was followed today with his own draft rankings to help shape your personal Watchlist.

We will certainly be playing FPL Draft this season. Will you? Vote in our poll on the homepage, or via your slide-in menu on mobile, and let us know.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which players do you think are underpriced in FPL? I think:

    GK: Begovic, Fabianski, Gomes, Foster
DF: Cedric, Daniels, Lindelof, Trippier, Mawson, Naughton, Mee
    MF: Zaha, Redmond, T.Carroll
    FW: Defoe, Deeney

Aguero, possibly Lanzini. Not so sure about Zaha. Tadic is cheap when he is in one of his hot spells, but not outside of that.

      I wouldn't pay 5.5 for Daniels.

Daniels = 5.0m so for me is cheap. Zaha missed a lot of football because of AFCON so has more points potential this season IMO.

      GK: Begovic, Foster

      FW: Kun

I would say competitively priced rather than under priced.

Add 0.50 mill to the players on your list and then ask would you still pick them ?

Trippier, Lindelof, Carroll, Defoe maybe ? Not many more

The awakening-effect of coffe is yet to come. The king midfielder is should be zaha or anyone else 7.0. I dont fancy the mid-priced midfielders this year. Might use 4-3-4.

Defoe is more safe than King, but i cant stop thinking that King has bigger potential. Anyone know how they will be used? Will both play together up front?

Main reason I don't like Lowton is because they have really tough opening fixtures, plus they just lost Michael Keane, which is bound to impact them

He will be my 4th coverage def (cedric trippier and lindelof main def) and burnley is so strong in home, i hope i could use him to cover at least while they are playing at home, thats what i thought

A is my current draft, but im looking into B possibility.. Why B?
I see that Firmino will play regular, he can be my liverpool Coverage, and with Salah Mane and Cout, they will score more goals

Questions on clean sheet analysis. I think someone posted an article or hot topic on when you are most likely to keep clean sheets. I think this had some interesting conclusions about playing mid-table teams away from home vs playing top teams at home. Does anyone know what I am talking about and if so is there a link to the article?

Can we risk not having players with the highest ownership ? Lukaku, Kane, Coutinho all over 30% - how much if a risk is it going without these guys ?

    1. money face bandwagon
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

dont choose a player purely for ownership.

nevertheless there is a reason for their ownership and they are all likely to get good points since they are the most consistent FPL assets.

out of 5 highest ownership players, picking 3 that you think are the best will be fine i think

    2. TokyoRisingSun

Think Lukaku and Kane are the bigger risks, since most people who have them will likely captain them. Coutinho etc. not so much.

Play your own game choose your own players based on research and your gut if they have high ownership they do if they don't they don't that's my opinion anyway

I am playing my own game but a 50/50 choice between say Kane and Kun, Lukaku and Lacazette,
then my gut says go for the guy with the ownership because when he gets a big haul it really hurts in the HtH leagues etc when you don't have them

Question regarding FPLDraft, do all players in a private league need to be connected at the same time to pick the 15 players in their team?

    1. ScotDougie
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

Have a read through the rules and FAQ , you set a time and date for the draft , if someone misses their pick / slot it's automatically picked for them going off their watchlist or failing that the pecking order of the main list so no they don't HAVE to be online but they may not get the players they are after

I should probably start mentally preparing myself for the rotation talk every time City have a Champions League game and during the fixture congestion in December . It's going to annoy the sh*te of me because it will be based on nothing . Of course there is a chance players might get rotated but this place gets out of control .

Yes, but only until your watchlist runs out. Which it probably will, for forwards. And then you get stuck with players from the 'all players' list. In my case, Batshy and Jannsen !!!

BTW, I had a good look at the transactions tab after my 10-team draft. There was a huge number of very decent defenders available for waiver requests and a fair number of quite decent mids, but the forwards were either absolute no-hopers or Rondon.

Yes, I got Salah that way last night when I spent to much time deliberating on who to get with the second of two consecutive picks (16th and 17th overall).

The watchlist is a big help regardless of rather your selecting your squad or doing it automatically, the 30 second draft time in my league went fast !

Zaha looked really lively against Liverpool the other day and seems to be set for a big season. I was all set on 4-4-2 but he could sway me back to 3-4-3 with that £7m price tag freeing up funds.

Morning gang. Any thoughts on the 4 at the back/3 strong forwards? I've never played with 4 defenders before; find the midfield choices a bit uninspiring (Ramsey, Pedro etc.) and Redmond/Zaha should have the fixtures to negate playing in worse teams.

    Foster

    Bertie Trippier Walker Lindelof

    Alli Redmond Zaha

    Jesus Laca Lukaku

    Subs: Elliot, Carroll, Romeu, Ronsenior

God my head was wrecked but great fun.

Bit confused, could of sworn I was last draft pick round 1 so get 1st waiver pick.

But I saw somebody else claim that aswell

I am - I think Alli and/or Eriksen will be heavily involved and the money goes a long, long way - see my team two posts up.

Your midfield is dirt and Who knows how Lacazette starts , Kane is proven back to back golden boot winner ignore him at your peril

I've toyed with the idea of having Agüero instead meaning I could do Sané -> Eriksen.

But I don't like the idea of scrambling to find 12.7 before he plays Burnely and Swansea at home.

I have both Eriksen and Alli as cover that provides more balance to my team as well as gives me Morata/Laca :

              Foster
              Lindelof - Ake - Cedric - Trippier
              Eriksen - Willian - Cout - Alli
              Laca/Morata - Lukaku.

(Elliot - RLC - Crouch- Rangel)

It's decent but you've got almost no flexibility there due to the ultra cheap bench. Aké's fixtures turn nasty from GW3 for example.

I mean, I would switch to a 3-4-3 of 3-5-2 no? Ake is known and proven to score against big teams and he already was trained by Conte for a while and plus, he provides attacking threat. RLC is underrated Imo.

I love Aké and he's in my squad but I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like City put 4 past Bournemouth which is why I play to bench in tough GWs.

Was going to with Lukaku and Lacazette leading my line to have a stronger all round team but I've caved in and swapped Lacazette for Kane and I feel much better owning him than not , can't ignore his record and don't listen to the slow starter Wembley factor crap , class is class he's an animal

Harder to upgrade to him than the reverse as well.

I'd rather be selling at 12.4 than trying to find 12.7 from somewhere. Similar story with Lukaku.

Risky unless you can transfer him in with two transfers max. Brace against Newcastle opening day and you're likely looking at 12.8 the next weekend.

no way. Kane is a must have imo.
Maybe my mid is a bit light but with that 3 strikers I cover almost all big teams. Also think that Zaha and Willian are underpriced to that mid isn't that bad as it looks.

Lot of talk last night that KDB was a must.

                          He probably will.

If you want him just keep him and then if he loses his place you've got your choice from any defender apart from Alonso in 1 free transfer.

                          I wouldn't worry too much.

This... If he gets a big score v burnley it'll work out well for those planning ahead, in that he' ll likely get a 0.2 price rise first week, then another 0.1 or 0.2 before GW as massess jump on board. Then can be sold for a profit just as he's losing his place with haz coming back. I can see thmerit in starting with him from this perspective - but he's a short term play imo

I've convinced to get Kane in so Kane for Laca/Morata and that leaves me with 7.5 MF for Eriksen/Alli
