Mark Hughes’ Stoke City are the next team to come under the microscope in our series of pre-season analysis articles for members.

We start by assessing the performance levels at the team level to look for any trends of improvement, before checking out their standout individuals ahead of the 2017/18 season. This includes an in-depth look at their likely key attacking target for the new campaign – Joe Allen.

Although they mirrored a total of 41 goals from the 2015/16 campaign last time out, Hughes’ men were hardly prolific – only the bottom five sides found the net on fewer occasions.

The Potters’ fell from ninth spot to thirteenth over the two seasons, though as the underlying numbers highlight, their threat inside the box was on the rise.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Improvements Please 🙂

    Foster - Hart

    Alonso-Bertrand-cedric (yedlin, hunemeier)

    Eriksen-zaha- willian- tadic (carroll)

    Kane-kaku-gayle

(Given that spurs doesnt get a replacement for walker i can easily senap Bertrand to trippier)

Too heavy on sothon and spurs?

Probably looking at a WC around the international break...

Excellent team - major weakness is no City attacking cover. Expect them to score well, but points will obviously be shared.
Would definitely get Trippier over Bertrand, and I'd I'd consider Austin over Gayle and swap Tadic for Phillips. Triple So'ton too much - got burned by that at start of last season when they had a good pre-season.

It's easier to put him now, stifle your fear and downgrade him if he's crap than to panic all summer then panic some more when he scores a brace on the opening day and you have to take a hit to get him in.

Believe hes the most explosive at 8.5 or less. Not really worried about difficult fixtures cos we all know Leicester like playing teams that attack them.

Tempted by chicharito who at 7.0 is laughably underpriced.

Hazard moses and bakayoko out injured and pedro coming back 3 days before season.

        would expect:
        pedro alonso
        kante matic

        morata

Pedro will be ok to play with a mask on, Moses isn't injured he's suspended for the 1st gw and there's a good chance we may buy Renato Sanchez and he's in form so I wouldn't say they were nailed but I see you reasoning behind it

None in a word, but the teams I am consciously avoiding are Spurs (except Trippier) and Liverpool.
Spurs because I cannot find value and with teh Stadium change I want to see them in action for a few weeks before I invest.
Liverpool there are several good options but I'm not sure who is going to start firing between Salah, Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana and Mané.

I don't think Boufal will start, so you should probably figure out a new midfield. The backline starts out alright, but PVA is too expensive for a defender on a side with Palace's defensive record and you could bring one of those 4.5 defenders down to a 4.0 since they'll be 3rd on your bench.

If you are going to go 532 this is a very poor version. You have not invested enough in defence to play that formation. No Alonso, Milner or even Valencia. Also Cedric might not play first game week. You need to downgrade at least one of Kdb or Kane to get some decent points potential from your defence.

    Advice from the experts please:
    4-3-3
    Dawson/Daniels/Cedric + Mids: Carroll/Romeu as subs
    or
    3-4-3
    swap on of the above 5.0 Defs for a 4.5 and swap Carroll/Romeu for a playing 4th 5.5.Mid (Capoue/Fraser/Puncheon)

Sorry if it looks a little complicated.............

Summer holiday end, time to log on to FPL/FFS and start tinkering 🙂 . Will definitely try to play it safe from the off this season, but 3rd striker and 4th mid obviously a challenge. Building team around Kane+ Lukaku + Alli(Eriksen?) . Swapping between team with Alonso + KDB + Austin and team with Kolasinac/Bailly + Willian + Jesus , both in a 343:

    Team A:
    Begovic - ( Elliot )
    Alonso - Daniels - Yoshida - ( Mee - Dunk)
    KDB - Alli - Phillips - Puncheon - ( Carroll )
    Kane - Lukaku - Austin

    Team B:
    Begovic - ( Elliot )
    Kolasniac/Bailly- Daniels - Yoshida - ( Mee - Dunk)
    Alli - Willian - Phillips - Puncheon - ( Carroll )
    Kane - Lukaku - Jesus

I do think Alonso will be worth his price tag, but going without allows upgrading Austin to Jesus without destroying midfield. Other alternatives are Trippier instead of above premium defenders, and Zaha instead of Willian. Latter would mean finding £5.0 alternatives to Puncheon.
GK's and budget defenders not set in stone either, will try to find a reasonably safe combo.
Which team do you think offers the best balance and flexibility to start the season, team A or B ?

Which team do we think has done the best business so far in the transfer window?

Everton and Huddersfield have gone big on the number of new signings that they have bought in (both bringing in double-figures of new players).

Whereas Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, United have all spent big on marquee signings, in specific areas that needed strengthening!

On the flip side, Tottenham haven't yet realised that the window is open to sign players... But have, of course, retained all of their essential players from last year (with the exception of Walker).

There have also been quite a few great captures amongst some of the mid-table teams as well!

So who do we think has done the best business thus far?

    Thanks!

They won't score loads more but they will score more.

        Lukaku is a great finisher.
They missed alot of chances last season.
These things often change between seasons, especially when a team has scored less than they should have.

I still expect Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and especially City to outscore them comfortably.

Guys, if someone is absent during the draft, will their picks just be based on the watchlist order?

Yes and if not their watchlist then the draft list order (which isn't awful)

    Afternoon,

    some outside input appreciated.

    Forster
    Ake/Daniels - Trip - **** - ****
    KDB - Willian - **** - ****
    Kun - Kaku

    Myhill-Hune-T Carroll-J Rod

My concern is no Ali-Erkisen-Kane. The easiet option would be either Ali/Eriksen.

What is the better option a or b?

    a) Dawson-Cedric- Ali
    b) Alonso- Bert- Ramsey/Zaha

have you thought about a 6.0 defender instead of alonso meaning you can upgrade ramsey/zaha

        Someone like Bailly?.
It's an option but the 8mill midfield bracket isn't very appleaing.

            Thanks.
Yes definately worth considereing. Will do some (more) tinkering.

            Also, could Alonso - (6m Baily/Kolasinac).
            Zaha > Ince
            Ramsey > Ali.

Gary Megson becomes Tony Pulis' new assistant, in other news I have zero West Brom assets.

After much deliberation I've finally think I've got a team I'm very happy with, Includes and attacking player from all the big 6 teams and can't see any other way to improve it but I'm open to suggestions

    RMT please

    Foster
    Trippier, Lindehof, Cedric
    Alli, Coutinho, Sane, Willian,
    Lukaku, Lacazette, Austin

    Elliot, Mee, Rangel, Carroll

I think it looks great. Keep an eye on Cedric, he may not be ready for the start of the season.

This is what my team looked like before I wanted Kane and decided sane wasn't good city coverage.

Is that not because he was at the Confed cup though ? Surely he is still fit and should be fine with over 2 weeks to go.
Sane is questionable but other than de Bruyne who I can't afford I feel he's probably the best pick.
I'm quite happy to sit off Kane for abit with Alli hopefully covering some points if he starts well.

Could sound like a bad idea but I think I'm going to get Liverpool players in when they have BAD fixtures, not good ones

Liverpool fans would tell you the same thing. Their season fell apart in the easy games!

The Premier League has won a court case to block UK(?) ISPs from illegally streaming football in the new season.

Most streams I know about are showing content from the US ESPN/Fox/NBC networks which are broadcasting content originating from BT or Sky.

Does anyone think they will be successful?

(makes a change from RMTs !!)

I think they were more focussed on stopping those Kodi boxes or whatever they are called. It actually took effect late last season. By that point I had jumped on a sky sports offer for the year!!

    Can you name a:

    A) 6.5 mid who will outscore Kolasinac at LWB

    B) 6.0 mid who will outscore Bertrand

    C) 5.5 mid who will outscore Cedric

...Over the first 8 GWs or so. Or will these defs outscore the mids?

If you find this easy, then shave 1.0 off each mid price, and repeat!

6.5m is a weird price point for midfielders. All a bit pants until you have 7m to play with.

Ince, Knock, Phillips, Ritchie should all have strong point tallies and id expect at least a couple of them to outscore Bertrand.

Kachunga, Punch and Mooy good options at 5.5m. But Southampton will be strong defensively and have good opening fixtures, as long as Cedric isn't hampered by having had no pre season, he should do better than them.

    A. KDB + Ince
    B. KDB + Ritchie
    C. Sane + Redmond
    D. Alli + Redmond (no city)
