Mark Hughes’ Stoke City are the next team to come under the microscope in our series of pre-season analysis articles for members.

We start by assessing the performance levels at the team level to look for any trends of improvement, before checking out their standout individuals ahead of the 2017/18 season. This includes an in-depth look at their likely key attacking target for the new campaign – Joe Allen.

Although they mirrored a total of 41 goals from the 2015/16 campaign last time out, Hughes’ men were hardly prolific – only the bottom five sides found the net on fewer occasions.

The Potters’ fell from ninth spot to thirteenth over the two seasons, though as the underlying numbers highlight, their threat inside the box was on the rise.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Could someone explain me the difference between a draft League and a normal League?

Yeah, basically each player can only be owned by 1 person so you all have completely unique teams. You can trade between each other or with the players no one picked.

    This one's killing me.

    ????? (Elliot)
    Kompany Kolasinac Trippier Daniels (Cedric)
    Eriksen ????? Willian (Carroll, Loftus-Cheek)
    Lukaku ????? Austin

    A) Forster, Sane, Aguero
    B) Foster, De Bruyne, Jesus

With A, I get double SOU CS, a presumably nailed winger, and Aguero (nuff said)
With B, I get Foster who won't do as well as Forster, De Bruyne (nailed but playing deep), and Jesus (nailed? But could be on the wings too)

You have too much money tied up in your back line, imo.

Because, in my view, De Bruyne is far too expensive, and therefore smashes the balance of the team.

I will get Sterling, before I get De Bruyne.

Wow, that's a call if I've ever seen one 😆

I think I'll be sticking with Sane-Aguero. KDB is mad expensive for a deep CM but he's nailed and somehow grabs points from back there.

Not keen on any Liverpool players at this stage - their first four fixtures aren't great, and they don't have any appealing lower-priced options. Can always transfer someone in from there later if required. I'm probably more concerned by my lack of Man City.

      Glad someone else is suffering.

Sané was great last season for me. He's cheap and were repeatedly told Pep looks at him with those big puppy dog eyes because he loves him.

On that basis I think he will be my Citeh player. Slight gamble.

If you can do it, I'd go Aguero+KDB

          • 10 Years

I'm almost 98% positive he'll start. The 2% is if by some crazy chance Pep decides to play 3 ATB even though he has a ton of attackers. My beef with Sane is that whenever he comes on he's been far too wide, more than usual. Kinda like how KDB has been far too deep 😆

    5. SAY MY NAME
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

quite similar to my dilemma below, feel Sane more prone to rotation, so KDB (higher returns i suspect anyway), kind of fancy Jesus to Aguero as i feel potentially more explosive and 1.0m cheaper

    6. CloudSky
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

Jesus. Playing much further up front as seen from preseason games than Kun. Was also giving the most minutes even in preseason. Is also a mil cheaper.

Depending on KDB position. If he plays in the hole behind both forwards easily him as he is orchestrating every Citys attack. If Sane is nailed that 1.5 mil difference probably wages it towards him, but I dont think he is for the time being. This is a more wait and see situation.

    7. Legomane
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

Just KDB here. Can easily downgrade to Sané if required.

Jesus and Aguero currently off my radar in favour of Kane and Kak. May be able to shuffle Jesus in place of KDB, but not inclined to just yet..

  11. SAY MY NAME

    Jesus or KDB ??

really want Jesus but leaves my mids looking weak, currently on something like:

    Forster/Elliot
    Bertrand/Trippier/Daniels/Dunk/Hunemeier

    Zaha/Willian/Tadic/Lanzini/McArthur

    Kane/Lukaku/Jesus

Jesus seems the most likely to remove from heavy front 3, could even downgrade to 4.5m bench fodder and really bolster that mid

happy with defence, Tadic and Lanzini can go

    any thoughts please ?

Team looks okay...the issue is flexibility in the transfer market with three big names up top. Any decent mid you might want is likely to cost you a hit or two and a reshuffle

cheers Trigger, been leaning that way, just reluctant to lose Jesus - guess i can always bring him back if he's nailed and on fire later in season

wouldn't mind eriksen/alli in midfield too, so might totally downgrade Jesus to 4.5m

"Considering he stands at just 5’5”, it’s an impressive feat for Seri, who isn’t overawed by more physically imposing opponents. Rather, inclement weather could prove to be the downfall of the midfielder, with Seri suffering from chilblains. “When it’s cold I need special treatment. I don’t see myself playing in a country where it’s cold. I hurt everywhere and I struggle to train,”."

    Good day

Doosra i hope all is well

Question: when you say KDB ruins the balance of your team; wouldnt it be the same if you had a player like eriksen who is only 0.5 less?

Im interested because i respect your views around here...just want to understand this one as im debating my man city coverage. 🙂 haha

I don't know what Doos will say, but Eriksen is proper value at 9.5 compared to De Bruyne at 10.0. Same set pieces, good attacking teams, one plays deeper than the other.

Yes he should be on pens and is a regular starter. He has gone under the radar a bit because of the RLC hype but I think he could be an interesting option.

A starting 5 mil midfielder on pens seems to be good to be true. That's it, unless RLC nails down a spot, he'll be my cheap enabling mid.

He was on pens last season, too. He ended up with 2 goals and 0 assists in over 1200 minutes. I just don't get the sudden love.

and the best part of this game is when a high owned captain/player scores and you see ffs going frenzy.

Haha, personally I dont think I got many captain choices right last year even when the selection seemed obvious at the time. 🙂

Determined to do well this year (top 100k is probably well for me). Been checking the site for the last couple of days to get ideas and just signed up.

Please RMT and any other advice much appreciated.

    DeGea, Elliot
    Trippier, Yoshida, Dawson, Otamendi, Mee
    KDB, Willian, Zaha, Ritchie, Carroll
    Austin, Lukaku, Kane

    4-3-3, rotating Dawson and Mee

Would like to do Otamendi > Alonso, but then midfield too lightweight?

RMT guys tinkered with it last few days. Let's see what you think:

    Foster (4m)
    Otamendi Cedric Alonso (4.5m, 4m)
    Sane Willian Cout Lingard (4.5m)
    Aguero(c) Kaku Austin

      Correction Austin>Rooney

Cant really see anything wrong with it. Maybe monitor lingard.

Surely Lingard not nailed if UTD make another signing.

Yes I think, but we will have to only rely on him for penalties and free kicks, and offers no open play threat.

Current draft with the "top 6" covered.

    Foster
    Alsonso Cedric Dawson
    Alli Ozil Coutinho Carrol
    Aguero Lukaku Gayle

    Bench 4,4,4,4.5

    Thoughts?

Not sure Alli 'covers' Spurs, Ozil Arsenal or Coutinho Liverpool. Far too many non-playing subs for my liking.

I did the top 6 system but realised that it isn't good. If you want top 6, change Aguero to Laca, Ozil to Sane, and it's already better. Otherwise, I would say to oversee Arsenal cover until later on when they have better fixtures and they always start slowly. I would say to load up more on City assets for attacking and also Willian/fab from Chelsea. Zaha/Philipps is also a good shout, especially Zaha who will flourish with the new 343 system. Also I'd go with Austin if he looks nailed instead of Gayle.

Not a fan of Austin but good fixtures. I can afford sane laca Redmond instead of aguero Ozil and Carrol is quite tempting

      Very nice team, balanced

I'm currently 442 but this looks good also

Bench is seriously weak so not much flex

He's great and winning penalties I give him that.

He's a good little player but whether or not he definitely starts games or comes on as an impact sub is the question

            He's giving an honest opinion.
It's up to you whether you allow it to affect what you believe.
It's probably time you stopped making veiled references to your rank last year with every other comment.
