In our first article assessing the Sky Sports Fantasy Football player list, we roll out our top targets for the tricky goalkeeper position.

Typically, goalkeepers grant us better value for money than their defensive counterparts.

They tend to come in at a lower price, offer an extra two points for clean sheets and also find bonus points easier to accrue in the shape of saves.

As our Overhaul article mentioned, we will look at five keepers who should be in your thoughts prior to the first squad refresh, which arrives after Gameweek 3.

We aim to reassess and bring you some longer-term options during the international break, prior to Gameweek 4 when the Overhaul is available and active.

The Picks

David de Gea – 8.0 – 10.01%. Fixtures: WHU swa LEI
The most expensive keeper in the game can justify that price tag due to a favourable three opening matches. Cheaper than any assured Manchester United defender, De Gea offers the cheapest route into their rearguard and a security of starts. While save points may be scarce – he only managed an additional six points this way last season – it’s the allure of nine-point clean sheet returns that make him a stand-out pick.

Fraser Forster – 6.7 – 12.67% Fixtures: SWA WHU hud
Great opening matches, including back-to-back home encounter, strengthen Forster’s claim. There is uncertainty around the likely starting defenders for Saints at the moment, with a new manager in charge and the protracted speculation surrounding Virgil van Dijk, so Forster offers us a secure pick. And if some of the cheaper defensive options, such as Jack Stephens (6.5) and Jeremy Pied (6.0) look like starting, then a double (or even triple-up) may be a viable tactic given that Southampton have consistently offered around 14 clean sheets a season for the last four years.

Ben Foster – 6.4 – 3.32% Fixtures: BOU bur STK
A budget-friendly candidate, Foster picked up 20 points in save bonus and a couple of Man of The Match awards in 2016/17. Although West Brom mustered just six shutouts last season, you would expect Tony Pulis’ side to improve that tally this time out. The addition of the six foot four inch Ahmed Hegazi (priced at 6.2), could also offer us a very cost effective way into their kind opening matches, although his start is far from assured.

Rob Elliot – 6.1 – 0.19% Fixtures: TOT hud WHU
While Elliot missed much last season due to injury, Newcastle United managed a very respectable 19 clean sheets in his absence in their promotion season. That number will certainly decrease in the top flight, although the opportunity for regular save bonus is a pleasing offset. The opening day visit of Spurs doesn’t look great for Elliot, though it may just catch Mauricio Pochettino’s men cold. A trip to Huddersfield and visit of West Ham to follow look far more promising. The Magpies are rumoured to be in the market for a new goalkeeper, though, so this will need monitoring. But any new signing may arrive after overhaul to leave us with an initial bargain.

Jonas Lossl – 5.7 – 0.31% Fixtures: cry NEW SOT
An ideal “enabler”, Huddersfield’s new number one is the cheapest starting keeper in the game and helps free up the cash to focus on attack. The Terriers also have three kind matches to open their campaign and, arguably, even one clean sheet in the first three could justify the pre-overhaul outlay. Indeed, with that in mind, some Fantasy managers may even consider doubling or tripling-up on Huddersfield defenders who also come in around the 6.0 mark. Lossl offers money saved and the likelihood that he’ll be the busiest stopper in the league.

Any tips on this? I think I'm blind to any changes now.....

    Foster
    Trips / Valencia / Danilo
    KDB / Willian / Coutinho / JWP / Fraser
    Kane / Lukaku

    Elliot / Mee / Rosenior / Quan

JWP a risk, Danilo a short term punt (if that's okay with you)

Can't stand that bench, but whatever. Decent.

I'd keep Valencia I'm fine with the Danilo pick for the short term and you'll have plenty of options for your 5.5 once Mendy is back

Same front line. Here is my my defence and mids:

        Alonso, Ake, Lowe
        Mane, Miky/Pogba, Ince, Carrol

Not quite inbalanced I would say, Ince and Carrol are obvious punts, but I will take that, HUD fixtures not quite bad, etc.

Got 1.0 in the bank anyone got any suggestions for me:

    Foster Elliot
Kolasinac, Trippier, Ake, Pied, Trent AA
De Bruyne, Salah, Zaha, Ince, Carrol
    Lukaku, Lacazette, Austin

Ince to Willian is something to consider but I've really liked the look of Ince pre season, not convinced by Chelsea nor their fixtures and for 6.0 I personally think he's a steal. Suggestions welcome, thank you!

Going to be starting at RB game week 1 over Cedric, as Cedric has had 0 pre season so far, that's more than obvious. Which means a lot of people who have Cedric will flock over to Pied, causing his value to sky rocket. Easy value increase and I want my value to be as high as possible for game week 5-6 when I use my WC.

Fair enough, but I'm not a big fan of knowing I'm going to be making early transfers when Pied and TAA are replaced. I prefer saving my transfers for other purposes. I also don't play the team value game, so it's sort of lost on me. But you certainly have thought it through. Good luck.

Oh yeah I forgot to say I don't want to cover Spurs early on as I want to see how they adjust to Wembley first and normally they are slow starters looking at last few years. Not convinced by them this year anyway tbh, needed to do a bit of work in the transfer market to keep things fresh! Decided to go De Gea over Foster as it's only for the first 5-6 weeks until I use my WC and I wanted to cover United's defence, had Lindelof but not been convinced by him so De Gea makes more sense.

So based on our conversation about who we'd be willing to captain, I decided to try a team with a different strategy, giving me a safe captaincy option every gameweek...because let's face it, our GW success usually relies on our captaincy pick.

    How does this look?

    Foster (Elliot)
    Kompany Trippier Cedric Daniels (Hunemeier)
    Mane Willian Ritchie (Carroll, Loftus-Cheek)
    Kane Lukaku Jesus

Carroll and Loftus-Cheek rotate really well with Daniels's tough fixtures too 🙂

Last season that clown Man City had in goal was worse than just having a wheelie bin in the centre of their goal but Man City's defensive stats were up there with the best in the division concerning shots conceded, big chances conceded etc Since they have just brought a new goalie, Ederson, who has a good record abroad maybe his current 4.6% ownership isn't quite as left field as the herd make it look?

Got £1.5m to spend and not sure what to do:

    Ryan
    Kolasinac Danilo Trippier Yoshida
    Zaha Willian Fraser
    Kane Lukaku Aguero

    bench: Elliot Carroll Romeu £4m

Pretty happy with 4-3-3 and i like the options in midfield for £7m, aside from maybe bringing in Pogba but dont fancy dropping Zaha/Willian. Fraser seems a bargain with Stanislas injured.

Original draft did have Alonso/Kompany instead of Kolas/Danilo but fancy punting on Danilo for a couple weeks until Mendy comes back.

    Foster

Danilo - Yoshida - TAA (He will start)

    KDB - Zaha - Willian - Salah - Tadic

    Lukaku - Kane

    Is Kane an absolute must?
    Opinon on Tadic?

Anybody feel like Zaha is fool's gold?

7m feels like too much to be forking out for him even though his fixtures are decent.

Ince a better option 1m cheaper?

    Kaku Jesus joselu

    Elliot Brady Suttner Tcarroll

Thoughts are Brady and joselu can rotate and also with Daniels tricky fixtures

    RMT /10 lads

    DDG (Elliot)
Kola / Tripp / Cedric / Hegazi (Mee)
KDB / Mane / Pogba / Willian (Big tommy carroll)
Lukaku / Jesus take the wheel (4.5)

Looking for the balance between players I think will perform above their price (pogz, willian), Consistency (KDB, Kaku, mane?) and players with great early fixtures for the first 4-5 GWs - (UTD and City for me)

      I'm on Bego.

Better keeper than Boruc, Ake improves Bournemouth and will get save points.
