Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I wonder will Lacazette not basically guarantee at least keeping up with Sanchez, but for 2.0 less?

It is possible, but I fear he'll be subbed off early a lot. May also not start every game. Giroud and Welbz will get games

Yes, but not possible with Kane, and Lukaku...well not really.

        Pretty doable.

        442

        Elliot / 4.0
        Trippier / Cedric / 4.5 / 4.5 / 4.5
        Alexis / Salah / Zaha / Willian / 4.5
        Kane / Lukaku / 4.5

And that's with no starting midfielder under 7.0. Could downgrade Zaha to someone a bit cheaper and upgrade defense or the 4.0 gk

Contemplating swapping Lukaku for Jesus to enable KDB to Sanchez, if anything to get away from the template. Will cost £1.0 obviously , so still unsure whether he is worth 12.0.

He's FPL gold usually on pens and I remember Pep saying towards the end of last season he was probably gonna play both Jesus and Aguero up top which fills me with confidence with the choice of Aguero.

I'm a city fan. I watch every game and keep a close eye on Pep's comments I've had Aguero every year except this one.

He's just not a good choice.
If pep feels like he doesn't want to play two u front Aguero will be the one dropped.

And Aguero hasn't been on pens since he missed one badly Jesus has been.

And Jesus is £1m cheaper. Also it has to be noted Aguero and Jesus didn't really work well together up front.

        Sanchez - Salah - Willian - Gross

What's the story with Milner? If I knew he was nailed I'd play a back 5 to get him in - he'd be worth it for the 6 or 7 pens they'll get this year alone... salah, Mané, Coutinho running around in the box = a lot of pens

I'm struggling on goalkeepers out of all positions! I've gone off Foster a bit and am tempted to just go for Heaton and hope he can continue last seasons heroics even without Keane.

Will he get the same amount of saves and then BPs though? Seems unlikely.

The beauty of Heaton was that he has saves in his lockers and does really well on BPS because Burnley don't score many and their defenders aren't great at picking them up

What formation United roll out in the Super Cup. Does Batshuayi start and do well in the charity shield? Do Arsenal full backs look good in a 3-5-2 to justify picking Kolasinac? What position Willian and Fabregas occupy in the shield to pick between the 2. Just a few of the things I'm monitoring.

    Forster (Elliot)
    Luiz-ake-Bertrand (Mee, Dunk)
    KdB-Alli-Mane-Willian-Zaha
    Benteke-Chicarito (Ihenacho)

That would be gw1 lineup. Hurts to go without the big strikers but this covers a lot of the big teams and keeps the mid and defence solid.

I think Spurs will start the season with 3 at the back while Son is injured and likely return to 4-2-3-1 once he returns. We are being linked with multiple right backs but nothing concrete yet. Pochettino may be willing to give Walker-Peters the chance to step up

We have been switching between the two depending on who's on the pitch. Look to tomorrow's friendly against Juve for clear indication but I personally think to start the season we will line up as follows:

I agree . The discussions are usually based on personal opinion and how highly said person rates the player in question rather than what the manager has to say on the issue . Also the hysteria is highly irritating when you are trying to put the captaincy on a player who could potentially be rotated .

Thanks. Arsenal has good CB options. If Kos is back I fear Monreal might be shifted to the LWB role.

As a Spurs fan, I'd just like to make a comment on the 'Wembley Factor'. Of course we had some poor results there last year but it is worth noting the opposition we played:

Loss vs Monaco (Champions League semi-finalists)
Loss vs Bayern Leverkusen (Champions League regulars)
Win vs CSKA Moscow (Champions League regulars)
Draw vs Gent (played most the game with 10 men after Dele red card)
Loss vs Chelsea (Premier League champions)

Now, of course I am worried that our 'home' performances may dip due to playing at Wembley but thought it was worth pointing this out. Having played a few games there now, I'm hopeful that our players can make the adjustment and perform well there this season.

Personally, as someone who enjoys watching Spurs play.

I would have expected you to win vs Leverkusen , Moscow and Gent.

Leverkusen was the worst performance we put in at Wembley - truly awful that game and the kind of performance I fear this year. The Gent game was ruined by Dele's red card, completely sucked the life out the stadium and the game

It's not jus about adjusting to the pitch thou is it, at WHL the fans are 2ft from the pitch, very intimidating for away teams especially when the fans really get going. Will they create the same atmosphere? Probably not, you have lost your 12th man, don't underestimate that

This is certainly true for the big games, but against the so called lesser teams, the atmosphere at WHL can be lacklustre at times anyway. Against the bigger teams, I'd like to think 80,000+ spurs fan will be able to create an intimidating atmosphere. Whether it's the same, that's the question here. What worries me more is players coming to Wembley for who it may be a once in a lifetime opportunity and, as such will raise their game

Missus made her first ever FPL team the other day with no help from yours truly.

She went 5 x 4.5m at the back because she wanted to spend all her money on attack - so proud.

Shame 3 of the mids were T.Davies, Snodgrass and Herrera 😆
