Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s left-foot ensured that the double gameweek had the impact we’d anticipated, but there can be no doubt the he was an unexpected source of satisfaction.

A 30-yard screamer, deflecting off Tim Cahill’s posterior, marked the closest Everton’s Aussie has got to getting his name on the scoresheet this season. Assou-Ekotto has gone one better than the Socceroo, rightly claiming a stunning strike, although his application for goal of the season will surely be turned down thanks to Cahill’s intervention.

With 10% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, after over 40,000 transfers in for Gameweek 20, Assou-Ekotto has clearly provided a major boost to a fair slice of Fantasy managers. Those who missed out on tonight’s goal, assist and clean sheet bonanza can at least take some comfort from the fact that such returns were far from signposted. The Cameroon international had scored just one league goal in his previous five seasons – he had mustered just a single shot on target this term before this evening.

It was surely Assou-Ekotto’s price tag, rather than his proven attacking prowess, behind his selection for Tottenham’s double Gameweek. His investors could hardly have expected a profit of 21 point (24 with the inevitable bonus) for their punt.

All the expectation was instead laid at the door of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor. While the two of that trio managed to scratch together an assist of Tottenham’s two matches, Adebayor was a major let down; just two goal attempts, both off target, saw the Togo striker do little to justify the FPL armband.

For many, the first double gameweek passed as a non-event – a reminder that the hype and over investment so often involved, can slap us in the face. And yet, ironically, the unlikely profit from Assou-Ekotto demonstrates just how that extra transfer, perhaps even a 4-point hit, can pay off spectacularly when the doubles come around.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I am pondering no City coverage, except Richards, for the forseeable if Silva is confirmed out and instead I'm going for Valencia and Rooney.

    Ridiculous?

No - could work out well. If Silva's out and Kompany banned the only city players i'd consider would be Aguero and maybe richards. Rooney could easily match Aguero's points so I think that's a decent option.

I'm also sitting on my WC until GW24. At this stage, I'm definately intending on bringing in Aguero (those fixtures look too good to ignore). I think there are enough well priced midfielders and defenders around to afford (and justify) having Aguero and RVP up front.

why not McC. It saves time since its 3 letters and 2 cC. Your hitting the same key twice. Dont you want efficiency?

3 Spurs and 2 Utd are a bad idea imo, rough fixtures. I'd probably just have Bale and Rooney out of that lot. Get Dempz, a 'pool defender and another mid (Gerrard maybe?). Or go Roon -> Aguero, Valencia -> Dempz, VDV -> Nani. Also wouldn't double-up on Fulham, Kelly not nailed on. Look at Sunderland and QPR defences or JEvans.

I think Dempsey is very overrated. VDV is OOP and plays second striker usually and Nani sucks atm.

2 fts and 0.3 in the bank but not sure what to do. Still have the wildcard also and don't know when to use it. Opinions?? Thinking maybe Walters-Cabaye. Walters, Howard, Ade, Morrison are the players i am possibly thinking of transferring. Team as follows:

    Howard
    BAE Jones Simpson
    Walters Silva Nani Bale
    Ade RVP Morrison
    Subs: Vorm, Moses, Naylor, Shotton

I'd keep Morison until he continues to not start and stops scoring. Superb value. Can you find some way of doing Ade to Aguero? Maybe just Howard to Stockdale this week, then do Stockdale to Schwarzer in your WC.

I'm in the same boat (5 yellow flags). I'm holding my WC until after GW21, which was always my plan. I will just suck it up if I have a bad GW21 if it means getting the team I want.

On the pl;us side, i outscored my main rival by 30 (assuming BAE gets 3 BPS) giving a near 40 point lead, and he has 4 players red or yellow flagged as well (including Kompany)

When picking a wildcard midfield all I'm seeing is the same faces over and over again. Pick 5 from Silva, Nani, Dempsey, Walters, Moses, McLean, Valencia, Sessegnon, Bale. Is anyone getting any other mids on their wildcard.

Considering Barton and Ramires. I also like Murphy as a cheeky differential if you can't stretch to Dempz, but the extra 2.5 is almost certainly worth it. Gerrard as mentioned. Would've considered Faurlin before his injury. Otherwise no.

Fixtures change for a few teams and we get teamsheets for some GW23 games before the deadline, allowing for one week punts. Also can wait and see how Jan transfers go and other factors. I'm very interested to see the effect Hughes has on QPR as they have cracking run of fixtures.

    Question guys:

Sessegnon has gone up from 6.3 to 6.5. If I get him in now with 113000 transfers in is he set to go up again? or has the price rise already taken effect, I don't fully understand how it works.

    Same goes with BAE.

    Thanks
