As you heard earlier, the draw for the quarter-finals of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power, was made live in the podcast this morning by Mark and a buoyant Granville. Well, not quite…

Ok, my hands are up, I made a little mistake (I am human after all), and tried to put my buddy Anorak through. I didn’t think anyone would notice It was a genuine mistake and I apologise to sandgrounder.

So, just to clarify, here is the official quarter-final draw…

1 – tippman Vs. User

2 – DRP Vs. DollyDaisy

3 – The Von Vs. DaFoe22

4 – gooner dave Vs. sandgrounder

As always, the top-scorer will earn themselves a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

Mark’s conqueror Tippman (20,094th place) takes on User (9,079th) with both players looking particularly primed for this week’s Man United home tie against Wigan; Nani and Dimitar Berbatov occupy places in each of their squads, though with Tippman on four straight red arrows, User comes into this one as favourite.

DRP (3,258th) and Dolly Daisy (2,869th) is a tough one to call. Of the remaining players, they were equal high-scoring last week, both chalking up 60 points. DPR has two Birmingham and two Wolves defenders, but barring that, he has no more than one player from any team. Dolly Daisy, on the other hand, has 3 Chelsea men -including two defenders- and two Everton; with the Toffees facing a trip to Sunderland, this could be a tricky tie for our highest-ranked surviving player.

14,004th-placed The Von has nine of his squad facing away trips, with only three of his front eight -Cesc Fabregas, Nani and Kevin Davies- playing at home. He’ll be hoping Newcastle can keep their good away form going, with three Magpies players in his squad. DaFoe22 sits in 9,893rd place and is another contender with 2 Chelsea defenders, but along with Nani he has Charlie Adam. With a home tie against Wolves up next for Blackpool, this could be crucial, as he also has nine squad members facing away trips.

GoonerDave (in 5,604th place) takes on sandgrounder (18,493rd) in our final match-up. Both have a Cesc-Rafael Van der Vaart-Adam combination in midfield, though sandgrounder also has Nani, something GoonerDave must surely consider before Saturday’s transfer shutdown.

All ties will be played over gameweek 14, and I’ll be you the results early next week.

The only thing that’s left to say is good luck to all eight quarter-finalists looking to reach the prestigious semi-finals.

hmmm. brunt could be a season keeper yet i fancy jarvis to do well after being called up by england.

ridgewell>vidic is safe as houses, yet ridgewell seems to be scoring pretty well this year, goal snatching in the box

How're ya Granville, was wondering if ye guys could do something similar to the suspension tightrope like last season?
T'was quite useful and a lot of players are now nearing a suspension.

      Cheers.

I do not think that you should play both VDV and Bale. But also I could not say who to choose. Me myself would go for VDV over Bale.

but he's got 3 budget strikers, he could play 3-5-2 every week and rotate them based on fixtures.

i'd be taking cahill and hangeland out for simpson + foley, playing 3-5-2, upgrading one of the keepers to hart...there you go, bonnet de douche!

      2. i'd bench gordon, think everton will score
      3. cahill and hangeland on bench
      4. play that 3-5-2

hangeland to coleman better of those two, elmander is looking awesome. I think over the season Everton will keep more clean sheets than fulham, yet fulham are up there with birmingham/blackburn/stoke/possibly wolves who'll all get our defensive interest at some point as cheap defensive options.

i'm looking at bardsley/begovic/foley at present...

danny collins stoke too, but he's on 4 yellows. wilkinson seems to help them get a lot of clean sheets but he needs a run in the team first

"Elmander doesn't score at home" - not yet no, he has two nice home games, it is easier to score at home, it's only a matter of time, and I think after last weekend, he will start this weekend

I say Fabs, he loves the big games, was starting to show some semblence of form last weekend, and this is bound to be a goalfest, if Rooney is involved it will be interested to see how Nani "the main man" is affected, someone back to steal his limelight. Fabregas the safer option for me.

I need to get Mr Arteta out of my team like yesterday. I shall have 8.5m Wongas so am thinking of going for CHUNG YONG LEE.

Mainly because I have no space for Elmander. Is this a good move or are the any better alternatives?

    Elmo -> Vidic
    Malouda -> Lee/Jarvis

    Would give me:

    Foster (Hart)
    Konchesky | Jones | Vidic
    VdV | Lee/Jarvis | Nani | Fabregas
    Drogba | Carroll | Piquionne
Sub: Coleman | Alcaraz | Barton

    How does that look?

Looks pretty sound to me, Milky. I took a gamble on Milijas over Jarvis. That's a victory for fixtures and price over form.

You have goalie issues with Foster's fixtures and Hart's injury. And Barton's out of course.

Sooner or later, yes. But I already have him and he's scoring, so I'm not going to meddle till I have to.

At the moment I have him in my line-up with Bale first on the bench. If Marouane doesn't feature Gareth comes in.

I would say Chamakh personally, Bale had his "big" game for the time being last weekend, the shift in formation will indeed help Bale, but he will be well marshalled by that Arsenal midfield to my mind

    Ok, quick poll:

    a) Arteta & Alex -> Nani & G Cahill (8 point hit) or
    b) Malouda -> Nani (4 point hit)

yeah i agree. only lingering doubt is that i want arteta out for good, but think i want to keep malouda long term...so if i get rid of him now = difficult to get back in due to price rise.

            hmmm, decisions decisions...

My thinking is that Malouda could well outscore Arteta by 4 points this week, and Cahill has a good run of fixtures to get CS's, goals etc. Would come in handy given my dire defence of Alex, Jara, Williamson, Foley, Coleman.

O don't like the 8 point hit but am swaying towards it....somebody talk sense to me!

                  Well!

I guess I'd be looking at:

                  Jaask
                  Williamson Foley Jara Coleman
                  Fabregas VDV Nolan
                  Drogba Elmander Hernandez

OR transfer Malouda to Nani and bench Hernandez. But I can't be sure that Nani will justify that 4 point hit.

I think you've persuaded me to just do Malouda - Nani and captain him. Would probably play this team though...

                    Jaask
                    Coleman, Jara, Williamson
                    Fabs, Nani(c), VDV, Arteta
                    Drogba, Elmander, Hernandez

Only one i'm not sure on is Arteta (away to Sund) or Nolan (away to Bolton)

Hernandez is a major 1 point risk I reckon. But also has the potential to bag 10 points, I suppose. I'd go with Nolan myself, although I'm planning on playing both Nolan and Coleman.

    Black Ops > MW2

    ....at the moment at least.

MW2 had so many horrible flaws... Scavenger and OMA meaning endless noobs and claymores was the worst of it... The marathon, lightweight, commando combo was uber annoying, although quite fun use yourself!

      I really like both.

I think the maps on MW2 were overall better than Black Ops to be honest but most of the changes that have been made for Black Ops have been for the good. Scavenger only resupplying grenades and ammo etc.

But it's not like Treyarch have really changed that much. Wager matches are cool but they are just living off IW with Black Ops.

Mw2 is far superior to BO in multiplayer. Mw2 is just so much slicker to play. Ignoring the noob tubing etc, the mechanics of it ran much much better. Plus, there is far greater variation of classes and playing styles.

BO campaign is fun though. It's like a Jerry Bruckheimer film in game form. You go from one ludicrous explosion to the next, which is even bigger.

It's hard for me to compare because I played hardcore TDM and SnD on MW2 and on Black Ops I'm mainly playing core games which are a lot different.

I actually love core now, so much less camping.

I think MW2 is my favourite though. I even played it again the other night, couldn't control the sensitivity at first. It was still set to how I used to play but that was obviously higher than it's auto set to in Black Ops because my shooting was all over the place lol.

Yeah Black Ops doesn't run smoothly for me most of the time.. Even though it's telling me that my connection is perfect.

Still enjoying it though and will probably never play MW2 again (sob)... With a couple of patches to sort out the glaring errors, like the spawning, it should be fine.

I think the maps are better in BO actually, even if you play a level for the first time they feel more open and real, and there are far more little allies and pathways to get to the same destination in BO than in MW2. I am just glad I will most likely never have to play "Estate" again. As much as I like sniping, at times, more often than not I tanked on that level, aswell as "Highrise", there were just some levels that I never got the hang of, unlike "Quarry" and the ones with the parked bus and the marshy one which was great for thermal scope sniping.

Enjoying BO, can't stand how some of the more established games keep choosing the Nuke Neighbourhood one, the map is far too small and you get spawned on top of enemies all the time only to be shot immediately, which is another problem/fun element to BO (depending on which side of it you are on) the spawning seems to drop you in enemy infested areas far more than MW2, which can be really annoying sometimes, but fun if someone gets dropped in front of you. Campaign is a bit silly but fun.

Connection is a problem for everyone it seems, MW2 ran much smoother most of the time, but then BO is new, so maybe in a month or so it will be more stable

Did you ever download the extra maps on MW2? Some of them were absolutely terrible. In particular Salvage, where you basically had three main alleyways, and people camping with LMGs/Snipers could camp at the end of each alleyway and prevent anyone from getting through...

There's a lot less camping on BO, which is unquestionably a good thing.

I did, I was the guy on the highest roof in Salvage with the rifle, watching the stairs with a claymore, seems like you were my arch nemisis then JP, Marathon Pro running through the damn claymores and knifing me in the back.

I liked the new map with the apartment/houses type set up, with the empty swimming pool

Right is it worth a 8 point hit to get this squad for the next few weeks(barring injury)

    Jaaskelainen(Carson)
    Simpson/Coleman/Kolarov(Foley/Clark)
    Nani/Fabregas/De Jong/Van der Vaart(Whitehead)
    Rooney/Torres/Tevez

    The changes are
    Little Pea/Lampard & Wilshere Out
    Rooney/Nani & De jong in

      Not De Jong.

Heavy investment in Utd attackers coming back from injury. That's a risk despite the fixtures.

I'd maybe just do Lamps to Nani and hold Chicharito.

Don't get De Jong, get someone like a Wolves/Bolton mid, but no transfer for Wilshere is worth 4 points.

    Carson or Robinson...

Villa have beaten Blackburn 4 out of 5 of their last head-to-head games with big scores, and the fifth being a 0-0 draw.

Stoke have beaten WBA in their last three head-to-heads but with less goals scored.

    Is it a toss-a-coin situation?

How often do you hijack a crate though. Once every 30 games?? It would be amazing if gave you a fake enemy crate, like a claymore that you could lay so not only could you mow them down as they approach it, the lucky swine who kills you and tries to open it..... boom.

You can change your own care package crates if you dont like them. Like if you get spy plane, you can change it to some other random thing. Might be worse like ammo. You can do the same for sentry gun crates and sam turrets.

It's the best addition i've seen.

the problem again (see my post above) is that the spawning is crazy and you just don't have time in BO to collect Care Packages, no matter where you are on the map, chances are an enemy will be spawned on top of your care package by the time you go to get it

People on here mention about not taking a hit for defenders and goalkeepers, which is fair enough as they are unlikely to score above 6/7 points, so you are unlikely to get the hit back.

However, a lot of the time, people on here say that it is ok to do, say Arteta to Nani for a hit etc.

But what if someone wanting to do Arteta to Nani for a hit, had earlier in the week made a defensive change. Therefore, you could just say that the first transfer was for a hit, and therefore the two transfers for the week are 'bad'. However, people wouldn't ask about the first transfer and would just say that the -4 for Arteta to Nani was a good move.

But if someone had done Arteta to Nani earlier in the week, (but not declaring this), and then are asking should they do Bosingwa to Kolarov for a hit, most people would say not to do it, even though these would be the same transfers, but in reverse.

So to summarise, I think it is ok to take a hit for defenders and goalkeepers, if your other transfer was for a midfielder or forward that you made earlier in the week.

Does this make sense? When giving advice on here, people should be told what the other move was, before saying whether the hit for the defender is good or bad.

Please let me know if I have explained my point badly, and I will try and explain what I mean better. 🙂

Your working is good, but you come to the wrong result.

The correct answer is: don't transfer early.

If you've transferred early for a defender or keeper, then don't do another one for a hit.

Yeah, that's my point. If you are taking a hit, make sure that at least one of the changes is for a mid or striker. If so, then it is ok to take a hit for a defender with the second transfer.

So really, when you get these questions:

''Should I change Distin to Evra for a hit''

It should be met with the response:

''It depends what your other transfer was. If it was a decent midfielder/striker change, then do Distin to Evra. If it was Krul to Jussi, then I wouldn't bother with doing the second transfer''

Of course, this would get annoying typing this, so a lot of people should just not respond unless the original poster declares the transfer already made in their first post.

AP, continued from the other page:

Have you seen the article on the the Guardian website about what the England team would be if it was picked purely on their stats? Gerrard has the second highest Opta rating for any English player, behind Ben Foster (wtf?!).

The Premier League best XI according to the stats is pretty accurate too:

    Cech
    Sagna Vidic Alex Clichy
    Nani Essien Fabregas Malouda
    van der Vaart
    Tevez

Other than Clichy > Cole, there isn't much wrong with that.

I'm just a bit bemused by this latest bandwagon. Not only is he at risk from 4 other players who can play LB, his goals (though spectacular) are infrequent, and he is totally untested in the PL.

Seriously though, I replied early to your concerns about Kolarov... I'm very happy with the fact that he's in my side, and don't share the same concerns as you.

The fact that he's untested in the PL doesn't bother me. If he was a midget South American than I'd be worried, but he's a tank from Serbia, who is strong, pacy and good in air. i.e. ideally suited for the PL.
