Our series of summer members’ articles continues this afternoon as we assess what’s on offer at the managerial merry-go-round that is Watford.

To begin with, we analyse the Hornets’ performances on a team level, checking out last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas of improvement. Following that, we take a look at the players to pinpoint their key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on new manager Marco Silva’s impact on his former club Hull City after an impressive stint at the KCOM Stadidum during the second half of 2016/17.

Watford parted company with Quique Sanchez Flores at the end of 2015/16, scoring 40 times on their way to finishing in thirteenth spot on 45 points.

Yet the now-departed Walter Mazzarri failed to improve upon those performances in his only season at the helm. The Vicarage Road outfit scored the same number of goals but picked up just 40 points, ending the campaign in seventeenth position.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone know of Moses is worth a shout now that he is classified as a defender? 3 goals and 3 assists with 17 clean sheets as a mid last season.

He looked better than Alonso today. Supposedly Chelsea are looking for new signings though so maybe wait and see?

Yeah. If he sticks 5.5 seems good value for an attacking chelsea defender

I wish. He's #3 in my defense rankings, but unfortunately he costs 6.5.

I was looking at Ince and Atsu as well but Ince plays in a side who are very likely to finish 20th and all of my defenders play against Huddersfield for the first few weeks.

Atsu on the other hand I'm not sure would start each game although he's been in tremendous form in preseason.

I think hudds will score a fair amount of goals after signing ince and mounie and their opening fix are better than Newcastle's.

Ritchie however is on pens and direct fks whereas ince may not be

Non-template. Trippier is injured and probably 1 or 2 captain choices short. Too big a risk to go without both Kane and Lukaku I'd say.

if you stick to Eriksen then cover UTD with Lukaku. imo downgrade lascelles to a 4.0 and Laca -> Lukaku but if you expect that Arsenal will score more than utd with these fixtures then stay with Laca. cheers.

I got to thinking about a previous post on points per match and I decided to break it down into points per 90 minutes played. Here are the results of some of the top players from last year and most likely to be picked this year. I find it a better gauge. Switching positions obviously changes it up a little.

    Forwards

    Jesus 9.26
    Kane 7.99
    Aguero 6.55
    Lukaku 6.00
    King 5.90
    Firmino 5.29
    Vardy 5.17

    Mids

    Son 7.59
    Sanchez 7.39
    Coutinho 6.91
    Pedro 6.81
    Hazard 6.76
    Ali 6.67
    Mane 6.26
    Debruyne 6.22
    Eriksen 6.21

    Defense

    Alonso 5.82
    Cahill 4.86
    Walker 4.73
    Azpi 4.47
    Bertrand 4.41
    Valencia 4.35
    Daniels 3.94

    Goalies

    Lloris 4.28
    Heaton 4.25
    Courtois 3.92
    DeGea 3.85

Anyways...just bored and decided to post my results. Use at your own risk!

All measures have their issues, including p90, although I always prefer it as a raw indication of potential. Did you do Fabs, he works out at 8.13. Obviously the players near the top of this measure will tend to be those who have played fewer minutes in some way so caution must always be used.

Of course, Lukaku in better company now, but also Champions League distraction.

No faith in Lacazette or just no room at the in? The nailed on striker at Arsenal tends to rack up the points.

Based on 'Points per 90 kings' Lacazette is not included, but of course he will score a lot of points. Just waiting a little bit to see how he is performing..

I use to go fixtures over form so maybe I squueze him in when fixtures becomes better.

Understandable. Love to have a player in the friday game though xD

I've found that form for me is a better indication of potentiall points than fixtures, that being said no one really has form right now because pre-season is a lottery.

Swansea's fixtures really aren't that bad and they go on a really nice run after Spurs away GW5. Dann would probably be my next choice, but his fixtures turn ugly after GW5. Maybe a good time for a swap between these two?

      I prefer Tadic,
But I don't like any mid below 7.0,

    Hi please RMT:

    De Gea
    Kompany/Kola • Trippier (if fit) /Monreal • Yoshi
    KDB • Willian • Zaha • Atsu
    Kane • Lukaku • Firmino

    (Elliott • Carroll • Long • Mason)

Any ideas to improve my team?
Not very keen on Willian, Atsu and no playing def in bench.
Or play with Carroll and leave 0,5m from Atsu to improve defender.

    Thx you.

    Hello DZ,

I have been looking at Eriksen and noticed his past four season's points returns. Improved his tally every single year he's been in the prem, 132, 162, 178, 218.... What next? 220, 230? Considering he actually underperformed on his stats last year its highly possible he could yet have another improved season.

I he plays every minute, I think 230 is very possible. I looked at goal conversion rates from last year and while my analysis said that Kane and Alli should see drop offs in production, Eriksen remained an elite producer.

Yeah in terms of stats, Kane and Alli vastly outperformed their predictions. They are great players on the pitch but I cannot help but feel they will eventually drop off a bit.

G'day Gregg, how does that relate back to minutes played in each of those seasons out of interest?

Well in his first season he didn't play so much but still had good returns, his most recent 2 seasons were very similar except that he played more last season so naturally got more points, If he plays 3300+ we could see a 240+ season simply because of his involvement in everything that Spurs. Can't see him playing that much though because of European and Cup commitments and lack of squad depth

Cheers mate, hopefully he doesn't get too many PL minutes sacrificed for Europe, I'm still tooing and froing between him and Ali atm

I didn't see the game today, can some body help me decide between Fab + 1.0 or Pedro? Thx, where were they positioned and was Fab on dead balls, or Willian.

Fab was on corners can't remember free kicks, both pretty average as a whole but Chelsea struggled with batman not providing any decent hold up play

Huddersfield really could not have better opening fixtures could they?

For those looking at the cheap third striker I think Mounie has to look a tad enticing with those games.

Sure but more specifically if you are looking for a budget 3rd forward

I've been looking at him. He banged in a goal every two games for Montpelier last season.

For me it either Mounie in 3-4-3 or £6.0 defender in 4-4-2.

        Which one?

I am going with Tammy if looking fit. If not I am making tj switch to Mounie and will downgrade Ritchie to a 5.5 MF.

As for 6.0 defender I have Kolasanic.

You could play it either formation.

From the highlights I've seen of him he looks every bit like the definition of a poacher which I think is good for the side he plays for. They won't be the most formidable attacking force but whenever they get it in the six yard box he'll be right there

    Who scores more points:

    A) DDG, Dawson & JWP

    B) Foster, Trippier (if fit) & Ritchie

    Thanks

Is Kane-Kaku-Jesus overkill? Do have to start JWP-Ritchie-Willian in mid though

If only one of them doesn't fire, you'll regret it.
