Alexis Sanchez will sit out Arsenal’s season opener against Leicester City, but Mesut Ozil is expected to be available. Gareth McAuley is sidelined for West Bromwich Albion’s trip to Bournemouth, who are missing Junior Stanislas. Meanwhile, Cedric Soares’ fitness will be monitored as Southampton prepare to host Swansea City.

Arsene Wenger will be without the suspended Laurent Koscielny for tonight’s home clash against Leicester City, while Alexis Sanchez is also absent due to an abdominal injury.

There are also a number of doubts, including Mesut Ozil (ankle), Aaron Ramsey (calf), and Shkodran Mustafi (lack of match fitness), though Ozil confirmed he returned to full training yesterday and appears to have a good chance of starting.

Leicester City trio Robert Huth (ankle), Danny Drinkwater (thigh), Vicente Iborra (groin) will all miss the trip to the Emirates. Kelechi Iheanacho has shaken off a minor toe problem, though, while Islam Slimani is also available after recovering from a gashed leg.

Gareth McAuley (thigh) and James Morrison (knee) will both miss the visit of Bournemouth to the Hawthorns, but Jonny Evans (hamstring), Nacer Chadli (hip), Chris Brunt (calf) should be available.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe revealed that Junior Stanislas is out for out to a month due to a groin injury. Steve Cook and Jermain Defoe are expected to be contention for the visitors.

Troy Deeney is a doubt for Watford’s home encounter against Liverpool, having only been able to take a limited part in training prior to today due to a groin problem.

Ross Barkley (groin) and James McCarthy (knee) will both miss Everton’s home meeting with Stoke City, though Wayne Rooney will start for the Toffees, manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed.

Earlier this morning, Stoke City manager Mark Hughes confirmed that he hopes to have defender Bruno Martins Indi on board in time for the Goodison trip.

Virgil van Dijk is unavailable for Southampton’s home encounter with Swansea due to illness. Meanwhile, the fitness of right-back Cedric Soares will be monitored after he arrived back late for pre-season due to international duties with Portugal.

Tammy Abraham looks set to be available for Swansea City’s trip to St Mary’s following a minor groin issue but fellow frontman Fernando Llorente misses out with an arm complaint.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Need a mid at 5.5 - already have King but still tempted with Fraser. Chupo-Moting a risky but half decent shout you think?

Decent looking team. I have seven of them in mine. Like the Elliott, Carroll, Suttner, Mane picks (some of the others are no brainers).

Think West Ham and Chicarito will be slow starters (4/5 first games away), and I'm not sure about Atsu and Long.

Long is bench fodder. Atsu is a nice gamble for his form and price and rotates with Carroll. And Chicha is Chicha, he scores goals, lots of them!

What is everyone's thoughts about delaying entering the game until game week 2? That way you can have some info to go from in terms of team picks and feasibly make up lost ground.

Even a really poor score in GW1, say 24 points, buys you 6 hits to try and sort a team out if you're desperate, then you're in the same position as waiting, but if your GW1 team does well you're up. Why wait?

New manager, new players, new demand for more attacking play - no-one knows. But new signing Lemina more likely to threaten JWP's position, unless Soton play both Austin and Gabby up front.

Currently have Mee as my 4th defender (playing 343). Fixtures aren't great over first few weeks, so is it worth a punt to bring in Liverpool's TAA or would Moreno's resurgence prove a safer investment?

      1. Football Weekender
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 5 months ago

Stick with Ben Mee. He's nailed so don't have to worry about him. Home fixtures are great and although the sways are tough and Burnley weren't great away from home last season, they never got spanked.

      2. Guybrush Threepwood
        • 16 Years

Of the two, TAA is more likely to play at least this week. Don't buy that Moreno is legitimately in Klopp's plans to be honest.

I would say it almost doesn't matter. After the first round of games, new starting line-ups will be revealed and there will be some attractive defender options that may well be worth scrambling for before price rises.

So better no city defence? So with Bertrand instead of Yoshida? Other options for a 5.5 def?

Klopp on transfer alternatives: "If we bring in players, we bring them in because I like them, because I want them."
Klopp says no Sturridge tomorrow but he should be okay for Hoffenheim on Tuesday.
Klopp on Salah: "He makes us more difficult to defend [against]. He showed up from the first day. Speed, technical ability, finishing."
Klopp: "Tuesday is pretty sure [Sturridge] is ready. Clyney had a problem from the first day, now Phil with the back. Four players [out]."
Klopp: "Life goes on and the club is bigger than all of us. All we do is to strengthen the club for our supporters—maybe that's surprising!"
Klopp: "Between Oct 2015 and now there should never have been one moment when anyone doubted the relationship between myself and FSG."
Klopp on Watford: "We've seen a few of their pre-season games. He's a very dominant coach - you can see the things he brought in at Hull."
Klopp on Ings: "He's ready to go, as fit as he can be, no problem with injury. He will play tonight with the U23s. He's fit but not an option."
