We say goodbye to Gameweek 13 with Chelsea sitting atop the Premier League, despite Carlo Ancelotti’s stuttering side scoring just one goal and picking up three points from their last three games. Over the same time period, fourth-placed Man City have scored just two goals, whereas the bottom three (Birmingham, Wolves and West Ham) have managed eleven between them.

No wonder Arsene Wenger is talking up this season as the toughest yet. The Gunners sit second, just two points off the top, but Wenger has recently admitted:

“This season is by far the most open I have experienced. If you look at some teams who are in the middle of the table, the quality of the teams they have, it is quite frightening. The level has gone up and I think the physical resistance of the teams who are a bit less good technically has become stronger. All the teams in the Premier League can remain disciplined for 90 minutes.”

With only 6 points separating fifth-top from third-bottom, it’s becoming apparent that any team in the division is capable of pulling off a result, as the lines between dead-certs and no-hopers become blurred. This is a season where Man United sit three points off the top, despite winning just one game out of seven on the road. Where Arsenal sit second despite home defeats by two promoted sides already. Where Sunderland get battered 5-1 at Newcastle then sweep aside Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and where Blackpool winning at Anfield was no longer a coupon buster.

We’ve decided to analyse the OPTA stats in order to ascertain what teams are misfiring in front of goal and what teams are perhaps overachieving. With the usual Fantasy favourites becoming less dependable as the season goes on, we try to find any patterns that may offer a certain stability when it comes to team selection:

Who to put on the bench? Torn between Coleman (away to sun) and Piquionne (away to liv).

    Robinson (Krul)
    Bos Evra Boa Coleman (Jagielka)
    VdV Nani Fab Nolan (Ethers)
    Drogs Carroll (Piquionne)

Liverpool will surely tighten up and revenge last weeks defeat?
Sunderland maybe a bit high on themselves after last weeks win over Chelsea?
I don't have any statistics on this, but it seems to me that when mediocre teams beat one of the best teams, they usually loose (or do poorly) in their next game.

I don't think it happens enough for there to be meaningful stats. But WBA's matches after the Emirates and Old Trafford this season were decent results.

So Alex was on the bench for Brazil.Even allowing for the fact that Chelsea really aren't happy about it, doesn't this suggest his injury may not be that bad?

I think that it doesn't appear to be a serious injury but more a serious problem that requires surgery, Chelsea have decided that now is the best time to have him go under the knife, so he is going to be out regardless following the operation.

if you bought him when he was 4.5 then you can afford him to drop in price by 0.1 as you will not lose any of the money you have made on him

My Wild Card team is now (new players in caps):

    Foster, JAASKALEINEN
    VIDIC, KOLAROV, KONCHESKY, Coleman, FOLEY
Fabregas, Van de Vaart, NANI, Adam, FERGUSON
    GYAN, Carroll, Drogba

    My worries:
No Fulham coverage when they have three out of four at home
No Bolton coverage ex. Jaaskalainen when they have favourable fixtures
Drogba. I’m a huge fan but the malaria thing is worrying. Should I swap him for Tevez?
Adam. His time is close to up. Planning to bring Dunn in for him for GW16 but should he go now?

    Any help is much appreciated?

Spreading the risk have been up for debate here numerous times and opinions differ.

In my opinion, go for the team you think have the higher chance of keeping a clean sheet whether it means doubling up or not. I would play both Krul and Simpson in your case.

    S'up Homeskillets?

Used my freebie to do O'Shea OUT Vidic IN on Sunday (stood to lose .1 on O'Shea AGAIN and gain .2 on Vidic by making the move early, so I figured with 2 free transfers it was worth the risk)

Have 1 more free and am tempted to leave team as is, and have 2 free next week as despite having to lose Elmo, I don't really see any obvious clean sheets this weekend, and I am also waiting to see if Drogba brings me any further joy, cause if he doesn't, next week its Drogba OUT Rooney/Gyan etc in possible.

Thoughts on leaving team as is? remember O'Shea is gone Vidic is in.

were back on that are we Scott? Weren't we both already burned enough by Roondog? I have had him in twice already this season, and he has screwed me over twice, in particular that game after my WC where he picked up the ankle injury.

I am tempted, but have talked myself down off that particular ledge, not ready to jump back into Wazzaland just yet, but would love to have him in my team and the teamsheets to come out around kick off on Saturday and he be on it, live on Setanta too, going to (C) Nani and stick with O'Shea OUT Vidic IN I think, you going to go for it then?

I have also been burned twice mate but 3rd time lucky and all that.... this is the perfect game for him home to wigan, he has the potential to run riot and pull united and get the fans back on his side. Hernandez and berba havent cut is this season, the united fans wont welcome him back straight awy he'l need to earn it an i think he can take a step on that road by at least scoring against wigan. My dilema is who to drop for him, drogba or tevez, although im thinking the former. Maybe im trying to convince myself....

I would say Drogba, that being said, I am still not sure whether he will start Rooney, despite him being fit, it is difficult to decide whether Fergie will start him and there not be as big a reaction this as if he were to bring him on to some boos. that's true Tosey, I will probably want him next week too, as I don't think at the present that Drogba is looking like 2-3 goal salvos. I also only got Drog back recently at 13.1 so have nothing to lose. Will have to have a hard think about this, would LOVE to have Rooney in and him score! well my thinking is drogba is likely to score 2-6 points

worst case scenario (in my mind) is rooney gets 1pt, drog gets 6pts so i lose out on 5. not ideal but not the end of teh world

if drog gets a hat-trick so be it but i dont see it

on the other hand if rooney starts i expect him to get 6-13pts so i could make an extra 11 over drogba

im guna gamble, will watch fergies press conference for hints first

looks a good team JU.i would save the transfer for next week unless Carlo says Drogba is out.
who are you going to start,Albrighton or Piquionne?

Cheers boys, Alrbrighton starts at the minute Arfa, I think Liverpool will shut out West Ham for a 2-0 affair, even with Carragher at RB possibly.

Kolorov owners. How confident are you he will start on Sunday?

Played 90 mins for Serbia in Sofia last night. Coming back from injury too.

On wildcard, should I keep Carroll or ship for Odemwingie (Drogba and Elmander are my other two)?

Gordon & Jaaskelinen - lovely rotation next 13 gw's which coincidently is exactly when our second wildcard will run out if we can hang on that long:

(NEW, BPL, WHM, BLA, BOL, WBA, BPL, BLA, WIG, NEW, bpl, WLV, stk)

          Defence: not 100% currently:
          Vidic, Bosingwa/Ivanovic, Kolarov, Coleman, Samba/Simpson/Foley

Midfield: Fabregas, Nani, van der Vaart, Jarvis, Albrighton

          ForwardS: Drogba, ELmander, Carroll/Odem

looks good, but i also like the combo of Schwarzer and gordon (fulham keep more cleanies than bolton) which also gives me an extra 1.2m to spend on a forward.
at the moment i have hart and krul, just not sure what to do now with injury news!

            defence:
            vidic, a.cole, kolarov, coleman, huth

            mid
            nani, cahill, fab, vdv, bale

            fwd
            elmander, odemwingie, carroll

Yeah nice tip for Schwarzer/Gordon combo, definatly one to consider. Cheers.

Defence and Midfield look solid. Although I have concerns that your forward line is a bit lightweight. Yes, all players are in form and have relitively nice fixtures. I just think it helps to have at least one heavyweight striker i.e. Drogba/Tevez/Rooney as they're generally all fixture proof when their on Form - just my two pennies.

LIke I say looks good - hope it works out for ya! 😀

yeah take your point on the forwards but if 3 of my 5 midfield playing every week score 1 goal that will get me more points than any front 3 scoring 1 goal each. if that makes sense? also thinking 5 big midfielders are more likely to get 1goal & 1 assist in a game (3bps) than a 1 big front man scoring 2 goals.

Was there not a section on players that are walking the "suspension tightrope" in the past?

Andy/TM mentioned that although K.Davies is on 4 yellow cards he won't miss a game if he picks up his next(5th) yellow since he missed a game allready vs Southampton(?)

Is there a link to this? I emailed FPL towers and guess what?

They are to busy deciding which player's price will they adjust overnight to get back to me.

love this bit from that site:
          Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 14
Jose Boswinga (5.6m) & Yury Zhirkov (6.2m) look like great value now that both John Terry & Alex are looking at spells on the side lines. Surely this is an opportunity too good to miss with Chelsea on top of the table with the best defence in the league.
missed the bit out about them letting in 3 at home with the current defence situation
