Both Liverpool and Stoke City look set to go into Gameweek 6 with a host of defensive concerns.

Meanwhile, Swansea City boss Paul Clement is mulling over a first start for Wilfried Bony for the visit of Watford to the Liberty Stadium.

Dejan Lovren is a major doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester with a back problem, while Joel Matip and Emre Can are also nursing knocks, though the latter was pictured in training on Thursday. Sadio Mane serves the final fixture of his three-match suspension in the visit to the King Power. Jurgen Klopp may now be forced to field a makshift backline, with Joe Gomez retained in a central role following his EFL Cup outing and Trent Alexander-Arnold returning at right-back.

Earlier this morning, Stoke manager Mark Hughes conceded that he has a number of problems in defence ahead of the home meeting against Chelsea. Geoff Cameron and Ryan Shawcross are definitely out due to injury, Kurt Zouma is ineligible to face his parent club, while Kevin Wimmer is rated as “touch and go” after sustaining a hamstring injury. Hughes could now look to both Erik Pieters and Glen Johnson as stand-in centre-backs should he retain a three-man defence.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has revealed that Wilfried Bony is in contention to make his first league start of the season against Watford.

But Hornets defenders Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain sidelined for the Liberty Stadium visit and Miguel Britos is still suspended.

Pedro Obiang and James Collins will both miss the home clash with Spurs, but Mark Noble is available again. Manuel Lanzini is back in training, but this weekend is too early for the Argentine.

Jonathan Walters is expected to miss Burnley’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town due to a knee problem.

And the Terriers will be without midfielder Danny Williams for the Turf Moor encounter due to a broken bone in his foot. Summer signing Steve Mounie misses out once again due to a heel problem, with Laurent Depoitre expected to shrug off a muscle problem to deputise up front.

Tyrone Mings has been ruled out for around two months with a back injury, but Junior Stanislas returns to contention as Bournemouth make their way to Everton.

Mauricio Pellegrino will decide today what part Virgil van Dijk will play in the home meeting with Manchester United. Matt Targett (ankle) looks set to miss out, though Charlie Austin is fit and available to challenge Shane Long for a start up front.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Izzy Brown has returned to training this week following a hamstring injury and could be named in the squad for the home clash against Newcastle United.

Mesut Ozil looks to have a good chance of being fit for Monday night’s home fixture against West Bromwich Albion following a knee problem, but Calum Chambers and Danny Welbeck are both ruled out until after the international break.

I appreciate your advice but I think heavy hitting midfield is the way to go! Jesus will rack up the points and vardy will score ok. Rashford will score points even coming on for the last 10. Defence is weakish but steady.

The draft I've posted would be 4-3-3 most weeks.

Firmino appears to be set for one of his dry spells or will at least struggle to justify the 8.7m price tag. Maybe it is time to downgrade him to a budget forward and invest in defense especially with the fixtures Man City and Arsenal have. Kolasinac and Mendy/Walker prime examples. The reasons I think Firmino will struggle are:

    1) Liverpool in a bit of a slump with 2 defeats and 2 losses in the last 4 in all competitions

    2) 2 blanks in a row in the league for Firmino and a penalty missed in CL so there is a slight chance he is not on penalties anymore (I'd still say slim chance)

    3) Mane still suspended this GW probably means Firmino plays on the flank which hinders his output.Liverpool's main creative hub Coutinho still lack fitness and looks a bit rusty.

    4) Fixtures congestion and Klopp is a fan of rotation. Also a lot of tough fixtures. Liverpool are away to Leceister, away to Spartak Moskva, away to Newcastle, home to Man United, away to Maribor, away to Tottenham. Expect a lot of rotation around CL games after Liverpool drew their first home game. They will be under pressure to win their away games. Leceister on paper not as difficult as it was 2 years ago but they can still turn up against the top teams. Newcastle has a decent defense and Benitez is against his old club so expect a tight game. Man Utd and Spurs after that are the best 2 defenses in the league probably.

I think it is the perfect time to sell Firmino and reassess around GW10.

      Another good point I missed.

      5) Internation break coming up soon. Firmino travel to South America and returns back to training late. Good chance he doesn't start GW8

I'm keeping him. Price, 2G/2A, probably pens, indifference to liv goals conceded, Mane to return, Vardy a doubt, what budget fwd, many teams face the rotation issue.

      Fab Elliott
      Naughton Davies Mbemba Cedric Ota
      Salah King Mkhi Gross Ritchie

Good. Just like my WIlcard team but I've got Silva + 4.5 instead of Gross + Ritchie and I've downgraded Fab to a 4.0 and upgraded Cedric to Arsenal def

I would want Kolasinac with the upcoming fixtures. I might even punt with the C on him this week vs. WBA. You could go cedric>(Burnley) defender 4.5 and Otamendi>Kolasinac. Otamendi just got a goal yes, be usually he only gets yellows. And cedric, just like the whole Southampton team, doesn't get any attacking returns. I think 5.0 is a bit expensive for a defender that only gets you an occasional CS. Altough i've got Jones but with him it's more than occasionally a CS

Stoke don't have a defense at the weekend.

If we have 2FT but only use 1, then next week we will have another 2FT right?

The fact that Fernandinho comes 10th on that list says it all 🙂

      Is Aguero really essential?

Prone to rotation or being subbed of.
      Kane/Lukaku both nailed.
      His record v Palace - 2 in 5 - doesn't exactly scream goals.
3 in next 4 at home. This season and last his hauls have been mainly away from home.
