One match remains in Gameweek 6, but we are already looking ahead to the weekend and the players under consideration for the armband in our latest Captain Poll.

The seemingly perfect alignment of form and fixture is set to propel Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku (11.7) back to the summit ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Owned by 55.8%, the Belgian’s successful strike away to Southampton at the weekend was his sixth of the campaign – and the fifth time in six outings that he has delivered attacking returns.

Meanwhile, the winless and goalless Eagles have conceded more big chances than any other team and, along with West Ham, have conceded 13 goals, again a Premier League low.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (8.5) is another consistent performer in Jose Mourinho’s ranks who warrants interest after racking up attacking returns four times and delivering two double-digit hauls. The Armenian – who sits in a third of FPL teams – only mustered two chances against the Saints, but should be handed more opportunities against Roy Hodgson’s obliging backline.

It is also worth noting that in their last four league meetings at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have scored seven times without conceding. Palace are yet to score this season, perhaps even promoting Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones as differential captain options.

Back up front, a trip to Huddersfield Town hands Harry Kane (12.5) the chance to challenge at the top of this week’s poll given his incredible away form.

While the 22.5%-owned Tottenham talisman has failed to find the net at Wembley, he has proved devastating on the road, firing off more shots than any other player and racking up braces against West Ham on Saturday and Everton in Gameweek 4.

Kane now has 11 goals form his last five Premier League away trips.

However, with four clean sheets and just one goal conceded at home, against Leicester City in Gameweek 5, the Terriers could prove stubborn opponents.

Kane’s supporting midfield duo of Christian Eriksen (9.7), who scored against the Hammers on Saturday, and Dele Alli (9.5), who provided two assists, once again proved they are able deputies for those looking for alternative Spurs captaincy cover. The pair enjoy strong ownership, sitting in 27% and 30.4% of teams respectively.

Manchester City’s trip to Chelsea looks potentially tough on paper, but it could be unwise to overlook the Gameweek 6 poll winner Sergio Aguero (11.7), given that he has scored ten times in his 15 encounters with the London side in all competitions.

The Argentine’s place at the top of the FPL points table with 52, following his goal and assist against Palace at the weekend, are also strong factors in his favour. With 65,000+ transfers in since Saturday the FPL market is clearly optimistic he will maintain his recent output.

Among Chelsea options, Alvaro Morata (10.2) is looking impossible to overlook after his hat-trick against Stoke City. That put him level with Lukaku and Aguero on six goals and with more than 153,000 transfers-in, the Spaniard is currently this week’s most popular transfer target.

But perhaps his midfield team-mate Eden Hazard (10.5) could emerge as a stronger option, as he bids to make his first start of the season. The Belgian’s brace against City in this fixture last season certainly makes him a strong differential armband option. If he can deliver, his 3% ownership would surely spike dramatically over the international break.

Another midfielder returning to match fitness who could garner votes is Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (11.9), who takes on a Brighton defence that has shipped four on the road this term.

His 2.4% ownership will be keeping a close eye on the Chilean’s performance in tonight’s final Gameweek 6 fixture, at home to West Brom. Impress tonight, and he could be worthy of a first FPL captaincy in a season that has been hindered by transfer speculation and injury.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth welcome Leicester City to the south coast in a fixture that presents further differential captaincy options: both teams are among the four worst sides in terms of conceding shots on goal.

Jamie Vardy (8.5) is undoubtedly the Foxes’ prime captaincy candidate. Despite his penalty miss against Liverpool on Saturday, the 11.3%-owned striker has still recorded five goals and earned bonus points on two occasions this term.

Cherries 2.2%-owned forward Josh King (7.2), who scored 16 times last season and finally got off the mark in 2017/18 with a goal at Everton, is another enticing alternative on our list.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 7 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible†article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I am little skeptical about Morata vs highly physical CBs though as he is has been easily muscled out by then upto now

No Spurs player will cover Kane. When he bangs in a hattrick you may get an assist here and there.

Confident Kun and Jesus will start agaist Chelsea. Not confident either will get returns however. But no point switching to Morata yet. Hold it IMO

Man United are extending Luke Shaw's contract until 2019, sources close to the defender have told ESPN FC

Essential soon at 4.9, possibly 4.8?

Seems to be an English trend. Most English players don't have the hunger to succeed.

          Incorrect imo.
Bit of a sweeping statement here, but most have the hunger AND the passion to succeed, just not the skill or ability to read the game...

Did you see Wilshere game reading ability? Even Ravel Morrsion?! They were amazing at it. But then they got lazy and went on to become mediocre professionals.

Got to have all 3 imo just excelling in a single category won't cut it long term. A player who has plenty of natural ability (skill) coupled with the hunger/passion and ability to read the game will always be a top player.

    Forster -- elliot
Bertrand Valencia Kola --- Wimmer (SOT) Mee
Mkhi Salah Ritchie Willian -- carroll
    Kane Kun Joselu

A: Willian >> RLC. Play 4-4-2 and use the funds next gw to upgrade ritchie/joselu next gw. i have a strong defence so can easily do 4 atb

    B: Save FT and next gw do valencia + willian >> 4m def + 9.5m mid...means i continue playing 3-4-3

C: Willian >> Ramsey/Brady/Gross....and keep the team flexible..bench one of my players with a bad fixtures

Just read the hot topic about the free hit chip.... it's tempting me I'm not gonna lie. Can use it to maximise points this week obviously only if you pick the right players. Will it really be more beneficial to use it in the blank weeks? Chances are the teams with games in the blank weeks will be outside the top 6/8 sides in the premier league therefore the points potential reduced imo

    1. The shite teams will be playing each other though. Everyone said this last year too during the big blank and were wrong. Don't overthink it and save the chip.

This. It avoids 4-5 weeks of transferring in bench fodder just so you can field a full team for one week.

Quite like the look of gw10 tbh. Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have strong fixtures. Spurs and United play each other and City's isn't great

      Thanks 🙂

It looks tailor made for the blank GW's; you're guaranteed at least 2 points for every player who would otherwise have a blank. Fielding 11 without taking a hit and avoid ripping apart the team you had beforehand, is a massive plus.

That's not to say you can't benefit in an ordinary gameweek. Anyone that does play it will need a little luck that the blanks fall favourably in terms of a kind fixture run.

The advantage of the chip is that the blanks you would have had will all now have future DGWs

Average score was 19 last years blank gw, i scored 50 with 8 players. I think you will easily get 30-40 points above those not using the chip if you use it on blank gw, depending ofc on how many teams play.

I'm between 2 minds. Have 2 ft's. Can use both and maybe take a hit prior to activating WC. Or use 1 and have 2 for the int. break.

I think I go with the former though 2 over the break won't be enough to get on board with Chelsea and City (currently have none of these players)

Also, I feel like the WC is burning a hole in pocket and I'd like to have 2 weeks to play with it instead of just one.

Better value options than Alonso and Walker imo. And Hazard is a frustrating player and a proven fixture troll. Very unpredictable and therefore too unpredictable to be made captain and not the money for me.

Think Azpi can hold pace with Alonso and Alonso showed a weekness at the weekend that players may try to exploit.

Erik over Hazard and you can upgrade Shaqiri to and 8 or 9m midfielder

Thanks. I've only got 4 of them, so maybe I do need to consider it...

I think it might come down to how quickly Hazard gets back firing. He's the hardest to fit in at the moment.

I thought about this strategy too but you'll get them straight away with the WC, no hits and you'll be benefitting straight away from all these players and their good fixtures and you can then be saving transfers looking ahead to when the fixtures turn again.

You're welcome. It's not really a prediction tool (although there is that available too providing 6 week forecasts) it compares 2 players and basically tells you statwise which one comes out on top.

Fair enough. I'm struggling to be motivated with fpl this season. This time last season I had a hurrendous rank, set a goal and finished it the top 50k. Made some mistakes but was happy to take the lessons into this season. This season though, my priorities are far and away from fpl. Maybe a few good gw's will hopefully change my mindset

Yes and no... It does indeed show the goal threat of Vardy but the overall winner looks like Firmino to me. Based on 6 weeks data I would be more inclined to see what happens against Newcastle then make a decision, but if you have more pressing issues combined with getting rid of Firmino, then you may want to do it sooner rather than later.

Doing a bit of long term planning here. Which of these combinations loook better if I was to hold them until the end of the season (I realise how unlikely that would be but this exercise is more formation planning). I actually make them to be broadly similiar. Opinions appreciated

    Wood/Silva/Mkhi/Suttner/Francis
    or
    Morata/Jones/Azpil/Brady/4.5m mid(Carroll/RLC for now)

The second one. Don't like having two weak mids (assuming you would be playing the 4.5 mid?) but Morata, Azpilicueta and Jones will smash Wood, Suttner and Francis.

This is basically a choice between a 3-4-3/3-5-2 and a 4-3-3/5-2-3(5-2-3) would be very rare. Option one would see me play 2 strong defenders,3 strong mids and 2 strong strikers with the other spots filled on a rotational basis while option 2 would give me 4 strong defenders, 1 strong mid and 3 strong strikers albeit the rotational options are a little weaker here.

I play one every week. RLC playing as a #10 as well.

Sometimes you shouldn't look at the price to judge a player's potential. Remember Alli,Kane,Vardy and Mahrez from a few seasons ago?

Moreover, the rest of the squad looks pretty damn amazing to me.

I know that Lukaku is going to be more preferred captain than Kane this GW, but he could be easily outscored by his England coleague.

Tottenham are playing well away from Wembley, so could see Kane scoring a brace while Lukaku netted the ball just once.

          1. Go with Kane then if you think that - you may well be right 🙂

I hate to be a stickler but Kane & Lukaku are not colleagues at club or country. 😉

I do agree that Kane may outscore Lukaku but a small deciding factor is the early KO for Spurs, never like having a captain in the early kick off, daft I know but I'm not the only one.

He seemed ok this week scoring 2 in the early fixture...

          Suggestions for my current team?

          Foster
          Jones Cedric Trippier
          Salah Eriksen Mkhi Atsu
          Lukaku Aguero Wood

          Elliott, Mbemba Löwe Carroll

          2.1ITB, 1FT.

Thinking of saving the transfer and get Trippier out next week together with someone else.

Sounds sensible to save the FT and maybe Trippier > Azpi next week.

is playing with a premium front 3 the way to go ? i personnally dont like it as it means having an unbalanced midfield but there seems to be loads of folks and also "experts" on youtube that believe it's a very good tactic. what's you view guys ?) would you be happy with having gross and richarlison in your starting line up is that meant an aguero kane moratta front line ??

          thanks a lot 🙂

I may try that before WC but once I go for WC, its unlikely I'll have 3 premium forwards. Dont like any player in my squad who are potentially meh...

I prefer 2 average players rather than 1 good and a bad. Personal preference, not much in it I guess

3 big hitters works when they haul like this past weekend but should they blank and your def and mids don't score you will get around 30pts

I've got two with a Firmino/Vardy as the third.

Like you say, it kills the squad too much for my liking.

Nope it's not viable long term for me imo, seems to be all the rage here currently but we are a fickle bunch. Part of me is starting to get a little suspicious about the advice from these experts, sabotage?

The trick is to go with four - and maybe even 5 - at the back. You can get a very solid defence and premium front line if you go 5-2-3, or 4-3-4 at the least. The trick to having a decimated midfield is not to play the rubbish ones. You can still get, say, Mane and Silva as your two mids. Otherwise, you're going to be complaining about Richarlison and Ritchie blanks for the rest of your days.

            Martina an option now?

If he starts next gw then I may get him a makeweight for my Morata move in gw 8.

Thanks. I'm tempted to captain Sanchez and hope Lukaku scores just the one!

2 x FT's would be nice going into the international break.
