A West Ham pair catch the eye despite playing thousands of miles apart, a Crystal Palace player actually scores a goal – in vain, fittingly enough – and results set up a massive Monday night for many Premier League assets.

Here are the notes from a dramatic Friday night of World Cup qualifying action.

Hammers duo in the spotlight

West Ham players were to the fore on two continents in Friday’s World Cup qualifiers.

Striker Javier Hernandez scored in Mexico’s 3-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago, while his club team-mate Marko Arnautovic was on target as Austria beat Serbia in a 3-2 thriller.

The midfielder recovered from illness to play the full 90 minutes for Austria, who did a huge favour to both Wales and the Republic of Ireland by beating the Group D leaders.

Serbia’s goals came from Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic – only the second Eagle to score all season – and Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic and Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic also played the full 90 minutes for the Serbs, who will now have to beat Georgia at home on Monday to guarantee automatic qualification for next year’s finals in Russia.

The form of both Hernandez and Arnautovic could be welcome news for Fantasy managers looking to tap into Hammers assets.

Slaven Bilic’s side, who have won two and drawn one of their last four matches, have a good run of fixtures through to Gameweek 14, with only a visit from Liverpool representing a major test.

Hernandez (19.3%) is the fifth most popular Fantasy Premier League striker, and he has now scored twice in his last three matches for club and country.

Monday night showdown looms

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey provided the assist for Wales’ winning goal in Georgia.

Chris Coleman’s side was packed with Premier League players, including Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Andy King, Joe Allen, Sam Vokes and Wayne Hennessey. Hal Robson-Kanu and Ben Woodburn were handed late minutes from the bench.

The Welsh now face a winner-takes-all match at home to the Republic of Ireland on Monday.

Martin O’Neill’s side beat Moldova 2-0, with assists coming from Brighton’s Shane Duffy and Burnley defender Stephen Ward – that’s back-to-back assists for the Clarets full-back now.

Newcastle’s Ciaran Clark, Duffy and Ward all started and finished the match for the Irish, while Southampton striker Shane Long played 83 minutes and Bournemouth’s Harry Arter recovered from an Achilles injury to play the final 11 minutes.

The victory means that any one of Wales, Ireland and Serbia can still win Group D, with a play-off place for finishing second also up for grabs.

Draws for Serbia and Wales would secure them first and second place respectively.

Elsewhere…

Defenders Matteo Darmian (Man United) and Davide Zappacosta (Chelsea) played the full 90 minutes as Italy were held to a shock 1-1 draw at home by Macedonia.

Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini was an unused sub for the Italians, who now face a play-off to make it to Russia next year after Spain won Group G with a 3-0 win over Albania.

David de Gea played the full match and David Silva 74 minutes, while Cesar Azpilicueta, Pedro and Nacho Monreal watched on from the bench.

Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson put in a full shift as Iceland edged closer to a first ever World Cup finals with a 3-0 win in Turkey achieved with just 25% possession.

Burnley midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson played 82 minutes.

Ivory Coast duo Eric Bailly and Serge Aurier started and finished a goalless draw with Mali. Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony shook off a hamstring issue to travel with the squad, but didn’t even make the bench.

Brighton striker Tomer Hemed, currently serving a three-match domestic ban, played the full 90 minutes as Israel won 1-0 in Liechtenstein, while the man he was cited for stamping on, Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin, started for the USA in a 4-0 victory over Panama.

Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron was an unused sub as the Americans closed in on qualification for Russia 2018.

Burnley striker Chris Wood kept up his fine form with a goal for New Zealand in their 2-1 friendly defeat to Japan. Southampton centre-half Maya Yoshida played the full match for the hosts.

England’s U21 side beat their Scottish counterparts 3-1 in Euro U21 qualifying. Swansea City’s Tammy Abraham converted a penalty and Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke was also on the scoresheet.

He's never going to score, is he? And you've got both Davies and Trippier that cost less and offer the prospect of attacking returns. At 6.0 you're better off going for Alderweirald

    Who likes my WC team?

    Fabianski
    Ward - Azpi - Davies
    Coutinho - Silva - Richardlison - Fellaini
    Vardy - Lukaku - Kane

    (Elliot - Jones - Dunk - King)

Personally not a fan of Fellaini as a pick, especially started him over Jones...

Starting him ahead of Jones at Anfield away. He'll usually be benched. At 4.9 he's worth a punt for a few weeks. That 0.4 can't really do much for me elsewhere.

This is my first and I hope, last WC draft, could it any better?
    Open to suggestions

    Fabi Elliott
    Azpi Alonso Davies Maguire Ward
    Cout Sterling Choupo 4,5m 4,5m
    Jesus Kane Vardy

    Cheers

It could be better by downgrading Alonso and upgrading Choupo but it's a very good team either way.

yes but not so much better options around 7-8m, and that would be my budget, Alonso should score with this nice fixtures

Bit too much cash in defence for me. Chelsea def double up seems overkill with cheaper options at city, etc. with good fixtures also

That's mine concern too, was thinking about Walker or Otamendi, but it would leave some money ITB

Alonso to Otamendi would give you cash to upgrade Choupo or one of the 4.5s - or save cash for a rainy day 🙂

Doing Mkhi to Sterling for a hit this gw so will have 0.4m to play with for gw9. Would you rather.

    A) Upgrade Rosenoir to Dunk to give me a defence of:
Davies Jones Ward Clark Dunk (343 Good for rotation, can bench Jones and maybe Davies through the tough fixtures)

    B) Upgrade Brady to someone 5.9m and under

Wouldn't take take it the wrong way, no worries. I've already decided, Sterling's fixtures swayed it, was asking a separate question about what to do with the monies for gw9. Nothing much to do over the IB so might as well plan ahead

          • 11 Years

I'll admit I didn't read the whole thing and commented after reading Mkhi to Sterling since you've been debating that a lot. We've all had similar conundrums and the best solution is either do nothing or just make a transfer on deadline day. Gets crazy otherwise. Yeah, if you're planning, I'd recommend planning future transfers and see if Mkhi fits in the budget. If not get Sterling else I'd leave.

Cheers for the advise. I'll do that in future if I get into another conundrum, which I'm sure I will, hehe. I'll upgrade Brady unless he does well vs West Ham, to Choupo. Extra pennies can be saved for upgrading Sterling to Pogba upon return

I'm taking out Mkhi coz I fear rotation/rest might be upon him. Who is the replacement:

    a) Sterling
    b) Pedro

Cheers all. Was pretty certain it was A, but just noticed Pedro at the same price (and I think his game time will improve), so had to ask.

Will there be any rising or falling in prices between now and next weekend? I'm relatively new to the website and not sure where to look for that info. Thanks in advance all.

Close to 100 = likely to rise
Close to -100 likely to drop

Not perfect by any means though

    Pereira Carroll RLC Hun

0.3mil itb to use. Any changes i should make?

    WC active, any thoughts?

    Pope (Elliott)
    Azpilicueta - Jones - Walker - Daniels - Ward
    Ritchie - Coutinho - Silva - (Carroll) - (4.5)
    Jesus - Kane - Vardy

    0.0 ITB.

Will rotate Pope/Elliott and Ward/Ritchie, altering between 5-2-3 and 4-3-3. Of course considering Ben Davies, but his fixtures aren't too appealing. Also know that defense is quite expensive, but I like my attack and already got spurs cover in Kane (ie Eriksen no priority).

I have 5 of your front 6 on my WC also, are you planning on playing both Pope and Ward together, isn't it a bit risky?

Good point. An option would be Pope+Walker/Azpi -> Ederson/Courtois+Monreal. How does that sound?

Can't get Jesus? I think you should hold the structure tbh, unless you currently have a big front 3, then if so (without seeing your team) that might be a plan

How would you FPL geniuses fit Kane and City cover into this team:

    Elliot (Foster)
    Naughton Alonso Kola Cedric
    Eriksen Alli Salah Ramsey (Cork)
    Lukaku Vardy (Abraham)

Leaning towards Alli & Lukaku to Sane & Kane -4

    1. We Will Klopp you
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

That's the easiest way if you're game, but be warned, losing Lukaku could hurt, especially as you have no United

Yes, I still haven't really decided which City mid to get out of Sterling/Sane/Silva. Many in my ML has Silva so Sane or Sterling would be a nice differential

Nothing happened to him. He just went down holding his left knee. Could be serious, hard to judge.
