Sunday did its best to provide incident and excitement, although it was always going to be difficult to follow on from yesterday’s spoils. An unexpected Manolo Gabbiadini brace stole the show, while assists for budget midfielders provided the rest of the Fantasy fare, as defences buckled in both matches.

Gross the provider once again

Brighton has now scored six goals this season, with Pascal Gross involved in five of them.

The German claimed his third assist of the season with his interception that lead to Anthony Knockaert‘s sweetly struck opener.

Gross took an ownership 14.1% into Gameweek 8, having been signed by over 109,000 new managers, although another 68,000 saw fit to move him out. They may be regretting that decision this evening after another steady six-point return from the budget midfielder.

It was Knockaert who went into the campaign considered our most likely attacking option in the Seagulls ranks. But the Frenchman has been on the periphery until today. He fired a first goal of the season on his recall to Chris Hughton’s starting XI following his benching at Arsenal.

Both midfielders can build on Sunday’s points over a continued run of favourable fixtures over the next four Gameweeks. Hughton’s men face visits to West Ham and Swansea, while Southampton and Stoke are the next visitors to the Amex Stadium.

However, that run is more likely to promote interest in the Brighton defence and, intriguingly, we may have a new budget option available to us.

Shane Duffy was forced off with what looked like a thigh problem to be replaced by Uwe Huenemeier, who, at 3.9, may now be called into action. The German is already owned by 6.2% of managers as a bench warming budget option but could now enter more squads should Duffy face a spell on the sidelines.

Gabbiadini delivers as Forster falters

Manolo Gabbiadini scored his first goals since Gameweek 2 with a brace against Newcastle United to provide a rare double-digit return.

The Italian first pegged back the visitors with a fine solo effort before converting a spot-kick after Shane Long was felled.

Dusan Tadic was on the pitch at the time of the award, indicating that Gabbiadini has now assumed penalty duties. Tadic had previously taken and scored a spot-kick ahead of the striker against West Ham in Gameweek 2.

Gabbiadini was recalled to the Saints starting line-up today having been reduced to cameo roles since his last start in Gameweek 4. He had suffered a loss of 190,000 owners over that spell and went into today’s game as part of just 95,000 squads.

The 12-points appear unlikely to spark a renaissance, although Gabbiadini’s confidence levels will be boosted ahead of West Brom’s visit in Gameweek 9. Another return against the Baggies could see some begin to reconsider the striker, although his previous inconsistency, coupled with the availability of Swansea City’s Tammy Abraham, will likely temper interest.

Fraser Forster‘s uncertain display helped ensure that Southampton had to settle for a point.

The keeper was slow to react to Isaac Hayden’s first-half strike, while he also lets Ayoze Perez’s shot rebound back to the striker for the eventual winner.

Forster is part of 9.0% of squads and went into Gameweek 8 having produced nine points via a penalty save at Stoke City last time out. That haul had earned him 56,000 new owners before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Newcastle’s Rob Elliot who picked up 70,000 managers. Both keepers produced just a single point to reward their recent investors.

Elsewhere for Newcastle, Christian Atsu recovered from the knock that kept him from international duty and duly delivered an assist for his 4.2% ownership. The Ghanian’s initial drive was blocked before rebounding to Hayden to convert the Magpies’ opener.

Like Atsu, Matt Ritchie also figured having recovered from the injury that kept him out of Scotland’s squad over the break. However, his role on set-pieces remains reduced by Jonjo Shelvey’s presence. Ritchie took 13 of 15 corners with Shelvey out of favour but shared them four apiece today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sorry but it is a bit much to post this and expect a sensible reply when it is a completely ridiculous post. Even if you had 2 Man City players it would still be near on impossible to get 40 points. If they get into double figures you should be happy with that

Evening. Hitting the WC this week. Here's what I've mustered together so far...

    Elliot
    Davies – Jones – Mee
    Coutinho – Sane – Sterling – Richarlison
    Kane – Kun – Vardy

    Hart – Moreno – Carroll – Mariappa

    1) How's it looking?
    2) Who are the best two 4.5 def's for rotation? Moreno/Mee could be a bit disastrous.
    3) Cout + Sane + Davies or Salah + Silva + 5.5 (who?)

I think you should have silva instead of one of sane/sterling.

one of them or kun likely to be rested each week but silva will be there every week with BAPs and assists.

Silva the excellent 'consistent' choice but turning 32 years old and w CL football I wouldn't be surprised to see him rested against inferior opposition in the PL as the wintry mix schedule comes in about a month. Long term, not as subject to rotate as Sterling or Sane of course but medium term he'll get a breather as they integrate Bernardo Silva, etc.

As far as we know, Silva and KdB will not play in the league cup. Sterling and Sané will. We might see Sterling/Sané benched for Bernardo in the league.

Silva will get a few rests - I am sure:

Guardiola said: "Last season we had Fabian Delph, who was injured most of the time. We did not have (Ilkay) Gundogan, who was six or seven months injured. We didn't have too many replacements for David and Kevin (De Bruyne).

"They played a lot, and they need a little bit of a break to be at the high level. So we took Bernardo, who can play in three or four positions, and Gundogan is back."

The fall out from it very much suggests everyone was surprised.. that surprises me.. call it what you want but Jose first instinct will be to stop the opposition away from home in the biggest games.. if you have the a manager who can drill a defence as effectively as Jose and the worlds best goalkeeper it's a viable tactic.. Old Trafford will be a different story if you remember last season it was you lot that were very deep in that second half as we pushed on.. you carried more of a threat on the counter that's all

Well with the way Pep is approaching it your old gaffer might regret being such a coward..

There's a difference between pragmatism and being cowardly. Fergie for example would come to Anfield and be pragmatic and on a few occasions left with 3 points. I totally understand pragmatism in a big away game. Yesterday was cowardly mate and you know it too. Burnley and Sean Dyche showed more ambition at Anfield a few weeks ago 🙂

              • 10 Years

Fergie left plenty of times with none and Liverpool team and fans full of confidence too..

Klopp has one win in 8 now and lost his last 5 cup finals on top of that perhaps there should be more scope for pragmatism and even cowardliness at times

Since Jose and Pep took control in Manchester it's 2-0 Mourinho in trophies so i'm certain he regrets nothing and his methods are well proven..

We'll see what the story is come May berbs

I think why people were surprised is the fact that United had no attacking ambition whatsoever and given their start to the season people expected a but a bit more. Liverpool are not a good team and if Jose is going to treat teams in the top 10 like this I will be a very happy bunny. He did the same against Southampton and manged to rob a very fortunate 1-0 victory in a game he deserved to get nothing from.

No attacking ambition just simply isn't true though Lukaku has had arguably the best chance in the game and we got forward plenty in the first half.. last 20 minutes or so it was sit back and take the point no problem.. i know you would have loved nothing more than United to go there open up and lose and if we had of there would have been zero mention of attacking ambition it would have been lol at Jose lol at United usual shite but Jose isn't Arsene Wenger.. that's why they lost 4-0..

Lukaku; this is the break point for Huddersfield. They had a negative goal difference in the Championship last season and are about to slide big time. They have lost their last two games 6-0 combined and have scored only 1 goal in 5 matches; ManU should put 2-3 past them and Lukaku should benefit big.

MCity have CL midweek, would rate Jesus to score more vs BUR if he doesn't feature but he likely will and thus only 50-60 mins against Dyche's more organised (than HUD) side.

Other than the first game with Che ,
Burnley seem to park the bus or concede very few goals against other teams week in week out.

Would City manage to get in more than 1 or 2 the next game?

City seem capable of talking apart teams who park up at the moment.

    Elliot
    Jones Luiz Davies Ward
    Richarlison Coutinho Hazard
    Kane Jesus Vardy

    Pope Martina Stephens Cork

Is Cork & Vardy to Diouf & Sterling bad?

Obviously will wait on rich news and Leicester game

Awful weekend, any advice on this bunch:

    Foster, Elliot
    Otamendi, Cedric, Simpson, Daniels, Mariappa
    Salah, Alli, Silva, Richarlison, Carroll
    Kane, Lukaku, Rodriguez

    2FT £0.2m ITB.

    A) Rodriguez -> Abrahams
    B) Lukaku -> Silva/Aguero
    C) Both of the above
    D) Wildcard time!
    E) Other

Foster, Simpson, JRod not even played yet. Lukaku got Uddersfield next.

      Relax.

I suspect the wildcard after next week could be a good time as Lukaku's fixtures shift for a few GWs. Just concerned about a lot of price drops tonight (Salah, Rodriguez and maybe even Cedric).

I've pretty much ignored price changes this season and had my best ever start.

It might well be coincidence, and the lack of cash will probably catch up with me later on, but I do think they can cloud your judgment at times.

I definitely agree with that when it's one or two players, but a -£0.3m hit seems massive. I'll wait out tomorrow evening though I think.

Cedric -> Jones, JRod to Tammy.

Having said that, if Foster is injured and Richarlison gets a retro diving ban that might change things.

Kane, Kaku and vardyers, given Kaku is a flat track bully and should do well in the Hudds fixture

    1. Do you plan to transfer in Kun for Kaku gw10?
    2. If yes will you be buying Kaku back gw12 assuming both him and Kun are fit?
