Let’s park the disappointment of last weekend’s penalty miss and captaincy failure and be thankful for Mohamed Salah.

On a day largely bereft of significant Fantasy returns, the Egyptian’s contribution to Liverpool’s 4-1 victory at West Ham was gratefully received by his 1.9 million owners.

What’s more, Salah was once again among the most captained, repairing the damage of Gameweek 10’s modest four-point return for 250,000+ who handed him the armband ahead of today’s deadline.

His 15 points provides further evidence to confirm his status as a midfield “heavy hitter” in what is, to all intents and purposes, his debut Premier League campaign.

His two calmly executed finishes at the London Stadium, coupled with maximum bonus points, took him to 72 for the season.

That elevated Salah above the soaring Leroy Sane at the summit of the overall standings. The German will have his opportunity to reply against Arsenal on Sunday. It remains to be seen if the Man City man can maintain his current rate of output, but you wouldn’t bet against Salah sustaining his.

He is yet to go more than two Gamweeks without a goal and, had he converted the errant spot-kick against Huddersfield, he would be level with Harry Kane in the Golden Boot race.

The comparison doesn’t end there – Kane is the only player to better Salah for shots in the box and shots on target, indicating that his role in Liverpool’s fluid system is that of a striker in anything but name.

Often accused of profligacy, the Egyptian has undoubtedly missed opportunities. But both “eye tests” and statistics reveal a player constantly sniffing out opportunities in the box, while always threatening the possibility of the spectacular.

But lest we forget, we haven’t always been so confident in the Liverpool man.

Back in Gameweeks 8 and 9, there was a lack of faith as some 270,000 managers sold the midfielder. That followed a disappointing blank in a 1-1 draw at Newcastle and Liverpool’s 0-0 stalemate with Manchester United at Anfield.

But those blips are now surely forgotten, and it’s almost certain that those managers have either quickly returned to Salah, or bitterly regret their decision.

Salah is now almost untouchable in our squads and perhaps even edging towards the status of a midfielder that we can truly “trust” with the armband.

On a day that saw Sadio Mane make a shock return to action to play his part in both Salah’s goals, there surely remains no argument.

If we’re limiting our investment in Jurgen Klopp’s attack to one player, Salah is the option to settle upon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Despite their trophies Chelsea have been managed quite badly. They're still good but actually have had enough talent through their revolving door to be right at the top with the best in Europe....but they're not....

They have the best manager in the world. It's more who is making the decisions. Letting matic go to UTD was criminal. Costa too.

I think we need to pass judgement on Matic in March. None of us were talking about him last year. He looked slow and was overrun in a lot of games late in the season.

Agreed. I remeber Salah getting more chances than Kdb but selling Kdb, Salah and Lukaku was terrible business.

It's true but it's also hindsight.... KDB for instance, at Chelsea he wasn't that good, same for Salah, only pace, not that good, then they departed abroad and came back like different players... It's not that easy to say who will progress onto the next level and who will not...

          I don't agree at all.

I watched KDB the season he left Chelsea and remember thinking he had amazing potential.

Hindsight is incorrect in my eyes, these professionals should have a better eye for potential.

I’m in the bizarre situation of not really wanting Kane to play against Palace even though he’s my captain, because I have Salah VC and Duffy first sub. If he’s a no-show I gain 22 points, so if Kane plays he has to get at least 11 points for me to ‘break even’. Certainly possible against Palace I know, but he’s not done much against the ‘weaker’ teams at home yet.

salah has 12 goals in all competitions, ridiculous for a mid. thats probably better than sanchez ever managed at this stage of the season

Back in the day fpl was more about gut feeling, eye test, differentials and lots of banter. Now its all about statistics, percentages, odds etc You don't even have to watch a game to pick players. We all end up with same teams. Am I the only one that thinks that technology and overflow of information is ruining fpl? Or we just have to accept that this is the way the modern fpl is going to be played?

You can play this game in many different ways.

It's not FPL, it's FFF... Don't hang around here and you're sorted!

I think in the past you had to watch games to know which player is good and which not. Now you pick Chupo Moting without even knowing how he looks or how he plays just cause the statistics told you so. It kind of removes the personal touch in your team selection.

            Make your own decisions
I always go with my own gut feeling rather than following polls or the opinions of others. At the end of the day it is my fantasy football team so why would I follow others. Looking at polls and forums is a good source of information but it is important not to let them cloud your judgement. It can be very easy to follow the crowd, for example with a captaincy poll, but what are you going to gain by picking the same captain as the majority of others? I do spend some time reading fantasy football forums and looking at polls but I always ensure that any decision I make is my own.
