With domestic action resuming this Saturday, we have launched our latest Captain Poll to canvass your views on the best armband options for Gameweek 12.

Following a tough run of fixtures for Manchester United, a home encounter with Newcastle United looks an ideal opportunity for Romelu Lukaku (11.5) to reach the summit for the first time since Gameweek 7. So far, he’s the leading candidate and has earned over 29% of the votes cast.

Despite failing to find the net in his last seven club matches, a brace for Belgium in their 3-3 friendly with Mexico last Friday bodes well for an upturn in fortunes.

The number one forward for sales (76,000+) for a second Gameweek running in Fantasy Premier League, Lukaku has an impressive home record, supplying four goals and two assists in five Old Trafford league matches.

In addition, the Newcastle backline has proved frail on the road, conceding in all but one of their five away days, while captain Jamaal Lascelles may well be an absentee through injury.

A visit to Leicester City means that Manchester City’s wealth of attacking options are among the Belgian’s main rivals for the armband.

However, rotation fears, particularly after a busy international break for many of their key players, may reduce confidence.

Sergio Aguero (11.8) may well lead the charge in our poll. He is the top scoring FPL forward with eight goals and three assists to his name.

However, it’s worth noting that the Argentine may be one of City’s weariest travellers over the break. After two friendly matches in Russia, including a clash against Nigeria tomorrow, Pep Guardiola may decide to ration Aguero’s minutes with one eye on the Champions League match against Feyenoord the following Tuesday.

Gabriel Jesus (10.5), who has started every away match in the league, could be another strong contender. As will FPL’s top scoring player, Leroy Sane (8.9), who has six goals and five assists this term. Over the international break more than 101,000 managers have brought in the German winger, who has four sets of double-digits in the last six.

With Raheem Sterling (8.2) a minor injury doubt, some may instead opt for the security of starts that midfield pair David Silva (8.5) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.1) can offer. Silva has caught the eye over the recent break, bagging a brace in Spain’s win over against Costa Rica.

However, it’s worth remembering that Leicester City won the corresponding fixture 4-2 last season, with Jamie Vardy (8.6) netting a hat-trick.

With Nicolas Otamendi sidelined through suspension in Guardiola’s backline, Vardy and Riyad Mahrez (8.4) could be set to profit. Certainly, the latter is the Foxes’ form player ahead of Saturday afternoon’s encounter, serving up attacking returns in each of his last four league matches.

Harry Kane (12.8) disappointed his 607,000 new owners and the 1.4m FPL managers who captained him with a blank against Crystal Palace last time out. It was the fifth time in six appearances at Spurs’ temporary home that Kane has failed to provide attacking returns. However, his record on the road and in London derbies is stacked in his favour ahead of trip to Arsenal.

Kane has netted twice in each of his last three away outings and has a fine record against the Gunners, scoring in all five league fixtures.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (10.3) is the hottest FPL property up front ahead of a trip to a West Brom side that’s managed just one clean sheet in nine Gameweeks.

After netting his seventh of the season against Man United, the summer signing was also on the scoresheet in Spain’s win over Costa Rica – he’s earned 91,000+ transfers in this Gameweek, more than any forward.

Morata has returned 28 points in his last three away appearances ahead of his visit to The Hawthorns.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (9.4) is another strong candidate this time around, with seven goals and three assists, ahead of Southampton’s trip to Anfield. Since his brace against West Ham in Gameweek 11, the Egyptian has been the top target in the transfer market with 149,000+ more owners.

Rested from international duties over the break, Salah looks a very enticing prospect if he continues in a new central role for the Reds – indeed, he’s joint-second with Kane in the Poll, with over 19% backing.

Among the differential options is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha (6.8), who hosts an Everton side that has shipped ten goals on the road. Since his return from injury, the Ivorian international has scored in both his home appearances.

Brighton’s Glenn Murray (5.8) is an intriguing alternative ahead of Stoke’s visit to the Amex. The veteran striker has scored four in his last three, while the visitors have conceded 11 on their travels.

And the Seagulls’ playmaker Pascal Gross (5.9) should also be considered, given that he has averaged 7.2 points per match in front of his own supporters.

Finally, Watford’s Richarlison (6.4) hosts West Ham in David Moyes’ first match in charge on Sunday.

Granted, all four of his goals have arrived in away matches, but the young Brazilian has still picked up points against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal at Vicarage Road.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 12 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I think people are falling into a trap by getting an out of form Lukaku( no goals in 4) over someone who is in red hot form like Kun(6 goals in 4) 😉

NEW BHA on paper looks like good fixtures.

But when you look closer both of those teams are solid nd havent conceded
more than 2 goals in a single game this season so far.

I'm not entirely sure if you can just erase the fact that Kun is missing half of the games and only consider the ones that he plays in. 🙂 I just don't think it works like that 😉

      Last 6 GWs:

      Lukaku: 2 goals 2 assists > 27pts
      Aguero: 3 goals 1 assist > 26pts

Aguero broke his ribs in a car crash.

        Minutes played last 6 GW:

        Lukaku - 540 minutes
        Aguero - 226 minutes

You can work out the points per minutes.

          • 10 Years
          8 years, 24 days ago

Apparently, it turns out that the aim of this game is to get the most points, not the most points/minutes.

          "Classic Scoring:

In a league with classic scoring, teams are ranked based on their total points in the game. You can join or leave a league with classic scoring at any point during the season."

If you need more info about the scoring system in Fantasy Premier League, check out this link: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/help/

          Hope I helped.

Can't tell if you're trolling or not...
Rotation is one thing, but you're completely ignoring the reasons he's missed games. Aguero is likely to get more minutes now and given his better PPM ratio he would be the better pick going forward. You can't look at any stat without context...

              • 10 Years
              8 years, 24 days ago

Exactly - can't look at any stat without context.

Hence my comment under the original post - can't just state that Kun scored 6 goals in 4 without taking into consideration that he missed games in-between - delivering 0pts on numerous occasions.

In the same way, can't ignore the fact that Lukaku faced Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool in his last 4.

Missed because of a car accident... which was already explained to you. Not to mention the sub burn that Dingo just laid on you. Face it, you're digging a hole here.

                8 years, 24 days ago

The fact of the matter is, he has only missed 1 game that has any relevance and it was after playing 120 minutes midweek in a cup game, which will likely never happen again. The only other game he didn't start, he played almost half an hour at the end. Given his significantly better goals per minute ratio a sub appearance also isn't the worst thing for him.

                  • 10 Years
                  8 years, 24 days ago

I know the reasons why he missed those games. I also know that he is in top form and pointed it out here myself http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2017/11/11/international-scout-notes-friday-3/?hc_page=4#hc_comment_16925271

Don't want to discuss Kun's form though - that's beyond the point I'm trying to make here.

Both Dingo and Hurrikane completly ignored the rotation factor, which is and will always be something to consider as long as Pep is the manager. So that works in Lukaku's favour.

Second of, Dingo compared points/minutes of both players, without mentioning the opposition they faced.

                  1. Postman Ty
                    • 11 Years
                    8 years, 24 days ago

What rotation factor, is the exact point I just made. He's missed 1/9 games and played half an hour in 1/9. He is clearly going to be playing almost every game when available.

If opposition is the way you want to take it: United have had one of the easiest openings to the season. They have had some tough ones recently but you talked about total points and City have also played Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

Sure Lukaku is more nailed, but so is are lots of other players at teams who can't score.

                      • 10 Years
                      8 years, 24 days ago

Could go on for ages about this 😀

Bottom line from me is that not looking at the other side of the coin, which is Lukaku coming back from a tough run of fixtures and generally being a flat-track bully, is in my opinion an error you don't want to make.

There are factors (rotation, PPM etc.) working in both ways and it's best to consider them all, instead of singling out those that help you prove your stance.

I know how the game works Johnny.

If you had a sub come on for Aguero in those 3 games he missed for a measly 2 points per game, you'd be 5 points better off owning Aguero.

This is just getting silly now.

A few weeks ago I started a HT about selling Lukaku because I said he has a history of doing nothing against the top 6, I was told that it was rubbish and meant nothing because he played for Everton and West Brom then and he's now at a better team with better players who create more chances for him.

Now none of that applies, hes now back at being West Brom/Everton level and he's not playing with players at Belgium level.

Sorry but I can't be the only one who finds this laughable, it seems to be coming from people who don't want to buy him when weeks ago the roles were reversed and it was coming from people who didn't want to sell him.

Agreed, he did exactly the same thing last year, he was struggling for form at the start of the season, went away with Belgium, scored a couple of goals, in the very next game he scored a hatrick away to Sunderland.

Never undestimate the value of confidence.

I don't think there is really anything more to get out of this discussion than what's been discussed in the hot topics over the past week. It has just gotten quarrelsome because people owning either one of the two remain unconvinced and are now just resorting to finding flaws in two big hitters.

Regardless of form, the fixture and the opposition mean you just have to accept that the most likely scenario is both haul. Trying to find reasons why one won't score and the other won't play is just not going to go anywhere.

Very weak research and selective viewing of stats.

You would bring more to the table if you mentioned who Newcastle have played away from home so we can gauge if they've been good or if they've faced toilet teams.

Jonty has also mentioned that Brighton are one of the worse teams for giving up shots away from home.

Need more substance to posts of this nature, they may impress Dingo but he seems easily pleased.

He might not have scored in his last 4 club games, but for me the crucial factor is he just scored a brace for Belgium.

Add to this, both Brighton and Newcastle have had a pretty easy run of it this far, Lukaku does tend to do well against so-called weaker opposition leads me to believe that he is a very good option.

remember these can also be people voting on who they think is the best in their team, not necessarily the best overall.

Stop kidding yourself, Lukaku and Kane have dominated the C stats this season through the volume of their ownership, you don't need the Scout poll to tell you it'll be like that for most of the season.

I'm considering Jesus -> Kaku and (C) him.

Main reason is because my ML, literally everyone has Kaku. Surprisingly Kane is a differential.

The captain poll is just a guide to me. Doesn’t play a huge role in selecting as it’s just a sample of people on this site who vote for who they will be selecting anyway.

Huh. I've always treated the poll as who is the best captain, not the player I was going to select. But I guess that explains why I thought it was so interesting.

I can’t support that to be fair but I get the feeling ppl vote for who they want to captain in their side, not necisarrly the “best” captain that week.

It’s a good guide though. There was a post early this year that looked at the history of the poll, when a clear favrourite is present, they usually do well about 60% of the time.

Someone more friendly than I can find you the post!

Historically the top pick in the poll scores more points than the second and third in the poll. That's overall averages thought, not every week 😉

here is my team for upcoming gw, did a little bit of future proofing with 2 FT, currently in top 50k

    Foster to Courtois
    Oatmendi to Moreno

    Courtois
    Valencia, Lowton, Moreno
    Loftus-Cheek, Sane, Hazard, Ramsey
    Kane(vc), Calvert-Lewin, Lukaku(c)

    Lossl, Ritchie, Naughton, Simpson

Anything you would change in the bench, still contemplating playing Ritchie over Lofty.

    a) speroni, azpili and morata

    OR

    b) pope, cedric and lukaku

    elliot - hart
    jones - dunk - rosenior - cedric - naughton
    richarlison - salah - chupa - loftus - sterling
    aguero - vardy - kane

      A by a margin.

Speroni might be a gamble but a cheap gamble and Elliot will be sound. Pope is a gamble of sorts depending on Heatons return.
Azpi & Morata beat Cedric & Lukaku.

Beginning of season I thought he'd be locked in to my team but the attacking wheels have come off.
I've gone Morata for the longer term - this week will be a bit nervy watching ManU with no Lukaku.

    Wanna get your input, please.
I have decided to ditch Vardy for a cheaper option and invest the money somewhere else, so I had to choose between King, Rash and other 7-7.5 options but I'm not convinced in any of them and at this point, before the festive period, every transfer is a valuable asset.

    So what do you think
    a) Keep Vardy, hence a saved transfer to be used somewhere else
    b) Get a cheap fire and forget option where I don't expect lots of points and invest somewhere else maybe Murray, Hemed et al
    c) Punt on King, Rash or whoever.

Still a punt and if it didn't pay dividends, I'll have to transfer out and lose two transfers, tbh I wouldn't cared that much if the transfer was spent on a defender or a fifth mid but third striker spot is crucial.

And I'm planning on the following:

    Any other suggestions?

    D Silva + Brady + Hazard + Carroll + Ramsey
    Kane + Firmino + Morata

    Elliott / Cedric A.King Ota
    2FT 1.0ITB

    A) Cedric -> Jones
    B) Cedric -> Daniels
    C) Ota + Vardy -> Dunk/Duffy + Morata

Was thinking A this week, but warming to C and getting Jones for Cedric next week...

Yeah nice one. I'm going to downgrade one of my Fwds in 2-3 weeks and get a Spurs or Chelsea D, maybe even both.

                Cant afford Chelsea defender unfortunately...

Hopefully Christensen starts getting more gametime

I'm monitoring him. Great option if nailed.

Think you have to factor in the captaincy so A, C and B.

After 3 weeks that may change.

Richarlison. Watford score goals and he is heavily involved when they do. Palace are poor.

    Fabianski, Elliot
    Kolasinac, Davies, Otamendi, Morgan, Mbemba
    Eriksen, Salah, Richarlison, Ritchie, Carroll
    Jesus, Kane, Abraham
    2 FT, 1.7 itb

    (1) Jesus + Davies + Mbemba to Lukaku + Mee + Daniels (-4)?
    (2) Jesus + Eriksen + Mbemba to Lukaku + Sane + Mee (-4)?
