A third of the season is almost done, and Burnley’s defence is riding high as a source of Fantasy returns.

After a surprising debut campaign in which a recurring series of defensive heroics – particularly at Turf Moor – saw the Clarets survive in 16th place, their sophomore season has been altogether more impressive.

Sean Dyche’s side sit in seventh place – tied on points with both Liverpool and Arsenal –a nd have conceded fewer goals than all but the top three of Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs.

Can their defence continue to perform at such a high level throughout the campaign? And who among their array of options looks best placed to prosper from this upturn in solidity?

  Non-owner, but no matter how good a player is, Pep has shown you can't guarantee minutes. Even worse, he has shown he is willing to bring players on for a run out at the end. Yes, there will be weeks where Kun goes large and us non-owners will be kicking ourselves. But there will be a shed load of 1pt captains over the season too. Its about how you want to play the (unfavourable) odds

  Don't ship Ota at the moment. A as a standalone change is fine. Play Duffy for Ota and run the risk if Jones doesn't play. Think about it, if you take a hit for a defender (basically what you are doing), you need a cs immediately to justify the -4

Moreno or Gomez?

Mostly in it for long-term nailedness.

Attacking returns would be nice - I've always had it in my head that Moreno is pretty attacking, but his goals/assists stats don't back that up.

Moreno 0.1 cheaper too.

      Think about it, if you take a hit for a defender, who then returns the standard 2 points, you are -2 on where your ten player would have left you. Given that any team can concede against anyone (Liverpool home to Burnley; Arsenal home to Swansea; Bournemouth v everyone except Newcastle), why take that gamble? Defenders also generally have much lower points ceilings, so the immediate reward is likely to be lower (if there is any at all)

  He only played because either Bailly was injured, or we played a back three against tougher sides. If Bailly and Jones are both fit Smalling will drop to the bench when we use a back 4.

I feel like I’ve missed the Azpi bus, and I’m not sure his attacking returns are going to continue.

Not seen much mention of Alonso as an alternative - surely the better pick, based on average position, last season, etc?
