As entry opens for the Members-only Paddy Power Cup VI, we’ve almost reached the final stage of it’s predecessor. Gameweek 22 saw four fantasy managers face off in the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. In case you missed the summary in this week’s ScoutCast, here is how the two ties panned out…

sleepingmaster 48 – 41 ChickenDevil

sleepingmaster advances to the Grand Final after a seven-point win over ChickenDevil. A late fight-back courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s 13-point haul wasn’t enough to close the gap after Stephane Sessegnon and, to a lesser degree, Ciaran Clark’s performances the day before.

Sitting 59,659th in the world, sleepingmaster advances as the underdog, but is safe in the knowledge that he’s already pocketed prizes worth over £100. ChickenDevil will have to settle for a Gameweek 23 3rd-place play-off to bag a prize.

Raasclart 26 – 37 Funkyav

Eleven points was the margin of victory for Funkyav over Raasclart, who has John Ruddy’s unlikely clean sheet against Chelsea to thank. With Funkyav backing a heavy Chelsea win, seeing as his team boasted the likes of Juan Mata and captain Daniel Sturridge, fortune was certainly on his side.

Congratulations to sleepingmaster and Funkyav for reaching the Grand Final! A preview article will follow…

not a bad idea at all. mcclean is 4.5mil. scored 6, 10, 2 , 8 last 4 games. scored 1 and assisted 1 in last 2 cup games so he looks like a consistent performer, the guy is incredibly good value.

So I just realized, if you had gotten these players at their lowest prices, you could have this team:

    Krul Vorm

    Enrique Jones Komp/Richards BAE Verm

    Silva Bale Dempsey Sess Valencia

    Ba Aguero RVP

Looks right beast, although i guess the problem is BAE, Jones, Enrique, all have bad fixtures/form, and you can't really drop them if you got them cheap

can't, Nani is falling tonight, need to lose him before then, and since I'm going to OT on Tuesday and my phone seems to struggle with FPl will have to do them today as annoying as it is.

          http://m.fantasy.premierleague.com

If you haven't already. Should work on all but the most basic of mobiles...

Might be worth taking a 0.1 loss on Nani if it gets you points by you knowing the teamsheets. It is GW23/38 after all.

BTW is Nani flagged? If he is he may not fall on 100%, it may be more like 150%.

Will always have 1 great memory of Lothar

Him sitting on the bench having been subbed and looking like someone had just told him his wife had left him as United scored the 2 goals in Barcelona 😛 That just never gets tiresome

My lasting memory is watching the match with a group of Bayern fans while very visibly wearing the blue-and-white scarf of their local rivals 1860 Munich. I laughed so uncontrollably at the end that my friends had to smuggle me out of the bar for my own safety.

To be fair to Loddar, it's statistically likely that someone had indeed just told him that his wife had left him. He's been divorced four times, with each wife getting ever younger and ever blonder.

Mind you, Effenberg isn't the brightest Bratwurst in the sausage stand either. He was fined €10,000 in 2003 for calling a motorway policeman an 'a**ehole" ('Arschloch'). His excuse that he was actually merely wishing the policeman good evening ('einen schönen Abend noch') didn't go down too well with the judge.

In 2007, on the 25th anniversary of the match, Schumacher said that he'd still make the infamous tackle "in exactly the same way today", which is mind-blowing. The only part of the incident where he said he'd acted incorrectly was in not going over to see how Battiston was while he was being treated on the pitch. "For the first time in my life I was a coward", Schumacher recalled. "Lots of French players were there and I thought the situation would escalate."

The incident damaged West German football's reputation so badly that it took many years for German fans to identify with the national side again. No-one forgave him for the incident and Schumacher claims that German supporters rang him up at home continuously to leave hate messages and threatened to kidnap his children.

When West Germany played a friendly against France in Strasbourg in 1984, the French fans hung a Schumacher doll on a gallows behind his goal. The only person who forgave him, ironically, was Battiston himself. "If it hadn't have been for that foul, I'd never have become so well-known", he said in 2007. Probably through broken teeth.

Interesting: Eden Hazard was then asked where he expects to play next season. He replied with a wry smile—"In England…for a club that play good football"

That would suggest to me Arsenal. Chelsea certainly don't play good football, unless he's been brainwashed.

"After thinking about it, I'm leaning towards England," he said.
"It's a style of play that suits me and it's there that you can learn the most."
Hazard conceded that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were among the clubs he could join but said: "Nothing has been decided yet."
"I want to play at a big club, but I don't want to sit on the bench," he said. "It needs to be a club that plays good football."

You're right, it's making me hopeful.

Gervinho, Walcott and Ox are all wingers (although Ox can play central). Hazard can play both in the centre and the wing. I think he has a niche, particularly as Ramsey just doesn't have that spark of genius.

By the way, I've followed the Hazard rumours for a while - Wenger has been linked with Hazard for months, there was talk of him signing Hazard before the start of this season. I haven't believed any of it so far because I don't believe out of all the chasing clubs we have the money to pay for either his transfer or his wages, but I'd love it.

I think Wenger has earmarked Wilshere to replace Cesc and create that spark of genius.

Maybe, although no disrespect to Jack but it sounds a little wishful to hope he'll match him. More of a box-to-boxer, with more defensive qualities than Fab.

Signing players is strongly influenced by how they work with you current system. We've preferred 4-2-3-1 this season so our ideal squad right now is probably this (IMO):

                ..................RVP.......................
                ..Gervinho/Ox Ramsey Walcott
                ...........Song.....Wilshere...........
                ..............DEFENCE..................

Throw Hazard in and it becomes

                ....................RVP.....................
                ..Gervinho/Ox Hazard Walcott
                ...........Song.....Wilshere...........
                ..............DEFENCE..................

Which looks extremely tasty to me, particularly as I haven't seen much flair from Ramsey.

He could play centrally. Instead of Ramsey, who i don't think is good enough to play the AM role personally.

Hopefully, if Rosicky, Diaby & Denilson are sold in the summer it is possible. I highly doubt it is us though, got a feeling it's Chelsea.. despite the 'great football' line.

Chelsea need him the most, but Arsenal haven't replaced Fabs. Ox is a great replacement for Nasri, i think he's actually offers more. Depends if Hazard is happy to stay on the wing, I read somewhere he wants a more central role.

What about Arteta, i doubt Wenger signed him for a season. Ox looks like he could end up in CM aswell. Song, Wilshere and Hazard would be glorious though 🙂

Arteta is as stopgate as they come. Gives experience, gives Wenger more time to decide on a replacement for Fabs, lifts the pressure on Ramsey and gives an extra man in the squad. He's expendable for next season imo.

Welbeck set to rise tonight according to FISO.

Should I do a straight swap Sturridge -> Welbeck for a one week punt?

I want to do it tonight before price update.

Unless he rises again or you have exactly enough tonight, there's no difference. Rather see the team sheets.

If its only a 1 week punt, does the 0.1 increase matter that much?

You WCing next GW? It would be best to do this just before the Tuesday deadline when the teamsheets come out and you know if Welbz is playing. However with Rooney a doubt he looks pretty good to start, I’d hit it.

Anything I should do different with this wildcard team?

    Lindy, Mingolet
    Kompany, Shawcross, Cahill, Evans, Senderos
    Bale, Sess, Valencia, Silva, Dempsey
    Sturridge, RVP, Dzeko
    (0.2 in the bank)

    Any ideas?
Not sure about the defence...or Danny Sturridge

Sturridge > Ba. Cut your losses on that horrible team and invest in the return of the phenomenon. I have my own thoughts on Cahill and Shawcross but I can see why you have them.

Also Lindy / Mignolet rotation is bad. Krul's better.

        Lindy and Krul then?

I agree on Ba, and will be getting him next week for certain.
This week I fancy either Sturridge or Welbeck, so will probably wait for Tuesday night to decide.

Yep Lindy and Krul looks better.

Krul and Mignolet rotate perfectly (always have a keeper at home) but no United coverage, your call.

So clean sheets for my Zambia chaps. Liking the prizes statement on the acon ff site - "Stay tuned for prize announcements!" If it's like 100grand, I'll be livid for being so blasé. Probably a tv tho. Ibra scores for Milan. Yippee.

Good punt having 2 Zambian defenders, must make for a nerve-wracking 90mins though 🙂

“Stay tuned for prize announcements!” usually means that they were waiting to see how many people signed up (and how much advertising revenue they were due).
