As entry opens for the Members-only Paddy Power Cup VI, we’ve almost reached the final stage of it’s predecessor. Gameweek 22 saw four fantasy managers face off in the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. In case you missed the summary in this week’s ScoutCast, here is how the two ties panned out…

sleepingmaster 48 – 41 ChickenDevil

sleepingmaster advances to the Grand Final after a seven-point win over ChickenDevil. A late fight-back courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s 13-point haul wasn’t enough to close the gap after Stephane Sessegnon and, to a lesser degree, Ciaran Clark’s performances the day before.

Sitting 59,659th in the world, sleepingmaster advances as the underdog, but is safe in the knowledge that he’s already pocketed prizes worth over £100. ChickenDevil will have to settle for a Gameweek 23 3rd-place play-off to bag a prize.

Raasclart 26 – 37 Funkyav

Eleven points was the margin of victory for Funkyav over Raasclart, who has John Ruddy’s unlikely clean sheet against Chelsea to thank. With Funkyav backing a heavy Chelsea win, seeing as his team boasted the likes of Juan Mata and captain Daniel Sturridge, fortune was certainly on his side.

Congratulations to sleepingmaster and Funkyav for reaching the Grand Final! A preview article will follow…

    REPOST from the deadzone.

Just put this together to help choose my WC defence. A few interesting nuggets there, not least how cheap CS really are giving expensive ones a run for their money. (BTW if you get Evans that obviously counts as a cheap CS)

Hi guys! I could really need some advice about my team! 😛

    Vorm Krul
    Santon Richards Skrtel Shotton Caulker
    Valencia Sess Dempsey Silva Bale
    Welbeck RVP Fletcher

I'm planning to transfer out Skrtel,Fletcher,Caulker in the coming weeks. But who should I replace them with?
    I have 1.7M in bank.

ATM i think I'm gonna do it like this: 🙂
Skrtel & Caulker >Taiwo/Cahill/Bardsley/Riise/Senderos which ones would you pick?
    Fletcher>Ba

Fletcher for Ba is good only if Ba gets his past form back 😉 taiwo looks tempting, dunno whether Cahill or Senderos will keep clean sheets:(

team looks ok for now, but obviously you'll have to replace Keane at some point. I'd leave him on the bench this week, though playing Aguero away never works, you can't put 11 million on the bench.

I c. Hmm.. Thanks for the goalkeeper tip - probably Vrom is a better bet - especially the way that Newcastle's defence is right now. What happened to them - Ba left and the team collapsed all of a sudden. Probably one of reasons is that don't have a striker who can keep the ball in opponents half:)

Game week 22 was a highly irregular blip on Dempsey's chart. Three goals in half an hour matched his scoring output for his previous 11 games!

I'm wildcarding so I'm waiting to take my profit and having Mclean in instead. It frees up oodles of cash to strengthen my team elsewhere.

Otherwise he is good. So do yuo think playing Keane is better? He won't score 2 goals every game:(

Reasons not to listen to the ScoutCast...

Not a gift I'd say, but he's now pushing for a start anyway.

It's been 3 from Romeu, Lampard, Meireles and Ramires for a while (with Ramires pushed on during Sturridge's absence). A fit Essien likely makes that 3 from 5, but with Ramires sidelined i think we're back to the status quo (i.e. rotation).

PS - I haven't seen anything yet to suggest that this Essien is anything like the player he used to be.

You would probably need to write in to a bookie as opposed to walking in a shop.
Very unlikely that these sort of markets are in store.

                No worries mate.
I really do think you need to apply in writing on these kind of bets.

Chances are you won't get amazing odds if any odds at all.
If I was a bookie I'd be slightly wary that someone was asking as they could think you could have inside knowledge of a deal.

Maybe keep an eye on the bookies on Tuesday night and see if there are any specials.

          Hah. Sorry bout that.

In all seriousness I think the referees favouring Barcelona so much more than other top teams is a bit over the top. They probably shouldn't complain still as they've had plenty their way too.

Not even going to get pissed off by this, all I would say is they have an incredible history of getting opposition players sent off, particularly at home. The record against Real Madrid is ludicrous, something like 6 in 8 games.

This is from someone who sees their actual football as better than Total Football.

It devalues the win when they get a helping hand.

Standouts for me are RVP red card in Champions League, Ramos red card in Spanish Cup 2nd leg last week. Also recently the referee had the yellow card ready to book one of their players, then changed his mind because he realized it was Messi.

that's the one that springs to mind for me, and the RvP red card, not seen Copa red card to comment on it.

I agree, I really admire the way Barcelona play football when they play it, but the dirty tricks (diving, harassing refs etc) just makes them look cheap, and yet because they are 'the greatest club side ever' not only do they get away with it, they get help as well. Why should a player be immune from a red card just because he happens to be the world's best?

He isn't, but if that ref had sent him off he was finished as a ref and he knew it, Barca are untouchable and for them to moan about unfair treatment is just the height of hypocrisy even LIverpool couldn't reach.
