As entry opens for the Members-only Paddy Power Cup VI, we’ve almost reached the final stage of it’s predecessor. Gameweek 22 saw four fantasy managers face off in the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. In case you missed the summary in this week’s ScoutCast, here is how the two ties panned out…

sleepingmaster 48 – 41 ChickenDevil

sleepingmaster advances to the Grand Final after a seven-point win over ChickenDevil. A late fight-back courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s 13-point haul wasn’t enough to close the gap after Stephane Sessegnon and, to a lesser degree, Ciaran Clark’s performances the day before.

Sitting 59,659th in the world, sleepingmaster advances as the underdog, but is safe in the knowledge that he’s already pocketed prizes worth over £100. ChickenDevil will have to settle for a Gameweek 23 3rd-place play-off to bag a prize.

Raasclart 26 – 37 Funkyav

Eleven points was the margin of victory for Funkyav over Raasclart, who has John Ruddy’s unlikely clean sheet against Chelsea to thank. With Funkyav backing a heavy Chelsea win, seeing as his team boasted the likes of Juan Mata and captain Daniel Sturridge, fortune was certainly on his side.

    Bit off subject here. Gota fly in a couple of hours and very hungover to the point where I feel a panic attack may come on. Anyone ever get this when flying? How does one calm the nerves? Hate flying. Hate it

          Booked into furthest seat at back. I used to be cool with it. Lived in hong kong when I was younger. Just recently started getting panic attacks. Aw well got the iPad to keep my mind off it I suppose

            Just so you know mate, the ride quality at the rear of the aircraft is where you feel the effects of any air turbulence the most.

            In terms of claustrophobia though, sitting at the back works out well, as you can get up and move about easier.

              He was jumping for the ball and I think that RVP didn't even see the opposition player. Also I think that the referee saw the tackle. It just my opinion. No ban according to me. For Ballo I was convinced

        No further action for me. He knew where Cuellar was and was definitely trying to make it difficult for him - but nothing out of the ordinary. Bit of sour grapes from McLeish, I think.

    Think my WC is sorted, I list below with a couple of reasons if ur interested!

    Krul, Lindy - (Rotate well, Lindy looks more assured)

    Kompany, Evans, Simpson, Huth, Kelly - (Kompany starts most weeks, Evans & Simpson rotate to double on Man U & Newcastle. Huth in for Stokes 3 home games, Kelly cheap and very rarely used, will switch to caulker if hes dropped).

    Silva, Dempsey, Bale, Valencia, McClean
    Decided on McClean over Sess, couldn't face a too top heavy front 8. My opponent has Sess so I'm gonna gamble!

    Aguero, RVP, Ba
    Standard front 3, will probably bench Ba this week and play McClean.

    Thoughts are welcome!

          Yeah I think they have improved at the back lately, ok no cleansheets, but 0-1 against Chelsea and Arsenal (and Newcastle away). I think cleansheets are just a matter of time, I really rate Onouha and Taiwo, I think they are both great defenders and Taiwo could even be on pens with his set piece ability.

          So Taiwo is there as a possibly great punt, while Kenny is there because I believe Lindegaard is now no.1 and I only see two fixtures where I won't play Lindy and in any of these I have no issues to play 2 QPR (Wolves and Everton at home).

          I could also pick Krul or Al Habsi instead and even upgrade to Kompany or Vermaelen, but I really like the prospect of getting Dzeko, because Aguero could hit the low with his form pretty soon.

      I'd bench him, so expensive now that I couldn't afford to get him back. My team should be strong enough without him. That said I am inclined to think he wont get a ban.

      I can't answer your question since I have Rooney instead of RVP (that worked out well!!). I'm planning to do Rooney --> RVP so that I won't be left out. A 3 match ban for RVP however will be ideal for me.

      I'd do C anyway.

    A feature I would like for next year is this.
    When you click ahead to look at the next or later gameweek, your team shows who they playing that week under the kit rather than who they are playing in the current week, would make planning so much easier. 😎

      Yeah I think I'd get rid for Ba to be honest and just hope that he never returned to form. I know a couple people who've never owned him and have done fine without him! Somehow....I guess the same could be said for me and Silva, although we are now friends again 🙂

          I shall advise the Memsaab. Does the Nitrogen flushing of large packs not affect the flavour? She likes her various types, I'll probably stick to their bog-standard one. Though with our water it may be worth trying another. Thanks Doosra. I always used to put teapot dregs on my currant bushes. As surface rooters they loved it and gave excellent crops as the soil rarely dried out.

    i know im thinking ahead here, but im going to be dropping sturridge for ba, which will leave me without chelsea attack. (which atm, doesnt bother me so much), but i notice chelsea has that nice 3 game run, and want to get a piece of the action.
    With RVP, Aguero and Ba going nowhere anytime soon, Silva, Dempsey staying put, great fixtures. the only other slot is currently sessegnon, but will be valencia by gw24 or 25, and he's staying.

    yes one injury to any of my stars can render this inquiry meaningless, but as a general talking point, is Bale a season keeper? is the 3 game stretch worth selling and losing .4 in value? are spurs attack at a level where you want to try to have one at all times, despite fixtures? Talk to me.

    again, hypothetical assuming all players involved still healthy at that point.

            seems a wee bit stubborn, the game is forever evolving. clubs improve, clubs decline. if chelsea start to score like their reputation suggests, i dont think it would shock anyone, and i doubt fantasy owners will ignore it.

      I think Bale's a keeper (unless he is confirmed as missing 2 or more games, in which case it's worth selling before he drops).

      Bale > Mata would be a differential but also a big risk.

    Hey guys I'm really not sure about this move and I need talking into/out of it.

    I'm on WC I have Sturridge and Sess and I really want to bring Mata in. I really think he's the better option in the Chelsea team, especially now he's got a stake on pens, and although Sess has some potential, I don't think he's the best option over the next few weeks.

    This would mean selling Sturridge and Sess for Mata and Graham and doing one of the following:
    a) Huth > Shawx
    b) Kompany > Richards
    c) Dzecko > Ba

      gotta do better than graham in that coveted 3rd striker spot, especially if you are going with a cheap 5th mid. If you are on the fence between dzeko and ba, get both. shave money elsewhere to make it work. , richards instead of kompany if you have to, shawcross instead of huth, etc., and you can get a 4.0-4.5 defender who will do better over the next several weeks than BAE.

        I agree about Shawx and Richards but BAE rotates well with Simpson and I will want him back after Spurs' bad patch.

        I should have added that Graham can be understood as 'any cheap forward around £5m.

        I'm currently considering selling Studge for a cheaper striker and Sess for Mata and keeping Dzecko for 3 weeks then doing Dzecko > Ba. It will also give me a chance to asses Ba and make sure he's really as good as he was when he left.
