First-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard were just enough for Manchester United to claim victory at The Hawthorns, as a Gareth Barry strike for West Brom broke the hearts of David De Gea’s growing army of Fantasy owners.

Lukaku’s towering header from a Marcus Rashford cross gave the Belgian back to returns for the first time since Gameweek 7.

Backed by 819,000+ (14.9%) with the captaincy, Lukaku has now scored three in his past four appearances in all competitions.

Together with two bonus points, an eight-point return for the striker means that he is finally showing signs of turning the corner and reviving his stock as a premium-priced option.

Lukaku increased his ownership for the first time since Gameweek 7 prior to the meeting with the Baggies. But he had shed over 1.4 million over those ten previous Gameweeks.

Improved form, coupled with Man United’s fixtures could now help him reclaim some of those numbers.

Lukaku will face Leicester City next weekend, before Old Trafford encounters with Burnley and Southampton. That final home encounter falls in Gameweek 21, the blank for Harry Kane.

Lingard the Pogba alternative

Elsewhere in United’s attack, it is Jesse Lingard who has shown promise as a cut-price midfield option.

Valued at just 5.9 in FPL, Lingard again started in the No 10 role, flanked by Juan Mata and Rashford. His deflected strike from a Mata lay-off took him to four goals from his last three away matches.

Lingard claimed the maximum bonus points to give him a third double-figure return in five Gameweeks.

He is perhaps unfortunate that he has timed his ascent as a Fantasy prospect just as Paul Pogba returns to the equation.

The Frenchman – now down to 7.9 and 9.0% ownership in FPL – is back from suspension for the midweek EFL Cup tie at Bristol City, though he will likely be saved instead for the trip to the King Power Stadium.

Pogba averages 7.0 points per match and will doubtless be a key transfer target over the festive period.

He is already the fourth most-signed midfielder ahead of Gameweek 19, and his return to the United starting line-up could change the dynamic of their attack. This impacts on Lingard’s minutes and his current scoring rate requires monitoring.

Valencia blow as De Gea is denied

Gareth Barry’s second-half strike dragged West Brom back into Sunday’s contest and deprived Man United and David De Gea an eleventh clean sheet of the campaign.

The Spaniard still made four saves at The Hawthorns and has now produced at least one save point in seven of his last nine Gameweeks.

Mourinho kept faith with a back four having deployed a three-man defence in previous away matches.

That saw Phil Jones retain his start alongside Chris Smalling, with that pair seemingly the first choice centre-back partnership. It was the first time that Jones has started two matches within seven days this season.

Both Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof were on the bench but will likely get minutes at Bristol City and at least one of the four Gameweek outings to come.

Rojo did see action in the second period, replacing an injured Antonio Valencia who limped off on 65 minutes to claim a clean sheet for his 17.6% ownership. The Ecuadorian is now back at the top of the defender standings, though Mourinho confirmed post-match that the right-back had sustained a hamstring problem.

“This is what I call a December injury. It is an injury of accumulation of fatigue. It is a muscular one. Hamstring. Big, small, medium, I don’t know.”

However, Valencia was quick to play down concerns via social media earlier this evening, going on to say.

“Thanks for your support and concern. I am fine”.

Although that offers hope of a quick recovery, given how key he is to Mourinho’s plans, it’s perhaps unlikely that United will take any chances with Valencia and the Portuguese yet protect him over the Christmas fixtures. Valencia is yet to miss a Premier League appearance this season.

Depending on the prognosis, that could open the way for a number of options, including Rojo, Matteo Darmian (5.0) and even Luke Shaw (4.9) given that Ashley Young could be switched to the right to cover.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Morning all, would you "sacrifice" morata for firmino in order to get de gea instead of speroni ?

On the other hand morata has great fixtures.
        Decision decision 🙂

That depends on what you mean by difference. In terms of fantasy output I think Morata is worth the extra 2m. Firmino is a great player, but he won't outscore Morata. Liverpool have 4 attacking players that all storm into the box and are much more threatening, while Morata is more of a focal point of the Chelsea attack.

Firmino could very wel loutscore Morata (1) the reason you mention about Morata beeing the focal point and Firmino part of a quartet banging in goals, could´nt that lead to the opposite conclusion? Liverpool plays far more open and thus scores more than Chelsea which firmino will benefit from, and Morata in that 3-5-2 is in tandem with Hazard has up until now shown it is the latter that mostly benefit from that, could change of course. (2) Morata actually seems a bit injury prone/not used to playing so much games, while Firmino gets rested so pretty much the same here i think, but personally prefers players that aren´t made of glass (Morata) so would slightly prefer Firmino in that aspect. (3) considering the price difference i say Firmino is at least as good as a pick than Morata atm (4)little or no relevance what we think will happen, no one knows, morata or firmino could get injured long term and this discussion would then be dead-).

I think the only reason Morata will end up on top of bobby firm in the points table is cause of klopp rotation. Can see firmino matching him as I think Chelsea will have a hell of a lot of 1 nil wins whereas Liverpool will probably have a lot of 3-1 games, 4-3 and so on.. I would, Chelsea looked good because Leicester were so poor..

At the minute definitely the midfield options are better but if 2/3 strikers start to do it, it is much more difficult to get them back into your team if you only have one big hitter up top

I did Gross, Kane to Sterling, Aguero (-4). Will captain one of the city fellas next GW. Aguero placeholder till Spurs' DGW to get Kane back. Hit me hard not having any City cover.

I agree with comments above, although Jones is a very tempting way into Man U back line, he is injury prone and rotation risk, need certainty going forward, Cheslea fixtures are great, opt for Christensen. Could always consider Smalling if determined to opt for Man U coverage. I heard he was ahead of Jones on bonus this week before goal was conceded and can be a goal threat from set pieces.

      Sterling captain for sure.

      Christensen is a bargain.

Morata out now would slightly worry me with Everton (a), Brighton (h) and Stoke (h) coming up. Personally I'm moving him out for Austin or Rooney after that run and before he has Arsenal (a).

You defiantly need United defensive cover, if they had held onto the clean sheet that would have been a rank killer. I'm in a similar situation and need a United defender but not sure on Jones with his fitness over Christmas. I've considered Smalling he's a bit less of crock and has goal threat but I'm probably over thinking it and will end up getting Jones who smashes him in the BPS.

Just curious, but how do you come to the conclusion that Spurs assets aren't good this year?

Kane is considered 'off form', yet the top scoring striker and 6th highest scorer overall.

In terms of goal threat, he's had 100 attempts on goal so far this season. The second placed player (a mid) has had 67, and third 58.

You're going to wish you had him when he finally hits form.

Another interesting stat is that he's owned by 57.2% of all players in the top 1000. Whereas only 38.5% of teams outside the top 1000 have him. Do the math as they say across the pond

Tom Heaton is due back sometime next month.

Pogba is back and Lukaku is starting to bang them goals in. Is Lukaku now the go to man as Kane replacement?

Maybe, but his form is just not showing yet. He's not as potentially explosive as Kane is.

cheers. Kane doesn't offer value atm and has a blank coming. Might as well go Kaku now and bring Kane back for the double.

Gross & Richarlison; two assists between them in their last 12 combined games. I finally gave both their marching orders last night and brought in two major players (Coutinho & Pogba) for a -4 to fill their boots. Had to downgrade Kane to Rooney to finance it all but given Kane's current travails it feels sooo right.

    Onwards & Upwards!!

Oh dear! Kane is the top scoring striker and 6th highest scorer overall. He's had the most attempts on goal this season (100). 2nd is Salah has had 67, and Lukaku is 3rd with 58.

Imagine when he starts to bang them in.

Another interesting stat is that he's owned by 57.2% of all players in the top 1000. Whereas only 38.5% of teams outside the top 1000 have him.

    Pope - Speroni
Otamendi -Christensen - Mee - Ogbonna - Dunk
    Salah - Coutinho - Sterling - Hazard - Richarlison
    Kane - DLC - Crouch
    1.1 in bank

Is it wise to have both Salah and Coutinho? (thinking of getting Pogba)
Should I have a better forward line?
