Just as the Harry Kane apologists were beginning to diminish or be drowned out, the Spurs striker confirmed his status as a devastating Fantasy asset with a bolt from the blue.

Kane’s hat-trick delivered an unexpected season-high haul of 17 points at Burnley, a venue that had previously seen just three goals conceded to away sides.

The foundations for Kane’s treble were laid early with a first penalty kick of the season for Spurs.

A controversial incident involving Dele Alli – who was perhaps fortunate to be on the pitch following an early cautioned foul – that crucial early goal opened the game up. That allowed Mauricio Pochettino’s side to belie their recent form and put on an impressive attacking display.

Under those conditions, Kane could emphatically underline his Fantasy credentials. His eight shots, with six arriving in the penalty area, were again a Gameweek high.

The striker was sold by 108,000 ahead of Friday’s deadline, having lost 135,000 owners in Gameweek 18.

He will now next on Southampton at Wembley Stadium in Gameweek 20 with renewed confidence. An assured starter, that fixture now creates another scenario that could punish recent sellers further.

Some 867,000 opted for Kane as their captain this weekend – only 40% of his ownership. That figure will surely increase for the visit of Southampton.

Kane needs just one strike against the Saints to beat Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year. Meanwhile, Southampton will arrive without a clean sheet in their last ten Gameweeks.

The striker’s comments post-match made it obvious that the record will be on his mind come Boxing Day.

“We wanted the second goal to kill the game and when I scored it, I thought ‘right, let’s get the hat-trick’, I was happy to put that one away, I’m really pleased. I can now go into the game on Tuesday and try to get the record, that would be a great achievement.”

Kane now has 15 goals for the season – level with Mohamed Salah – and is up to 114 points in FPL overall’s standings – placing him fourth behind Salah (145), Raheem Sterling (125) and Kevin De Bruyne (116).

It remains to be seen how the market reacts, with Kane facing the missing fixture in Gameweek 21, before a double-header against Swansea City (away) and West Ham United (home) in Gameweek 22.

Should his price rise, it will be another consideration for those contemplating trading the striker out for his blank Gameweek, with extra profit potentially lost along with the transfers involved.

It will also mean those pondering a move back for Kane may have to find more cash to fund the deal ahead of his double.

After all the recent questioning and debate, there can be no question that Kane will be seen as near essential for Gameweek 22, with the Triple Captain chip also being prepared.

Pochettino shuffles the pack

Elsewhere for Spurs, there were four changes to the line-up, as Serge Aurier and Ben Davies ousted Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose in the latest phase of rotation at full-back. We have to presume that this will be reversed on Boxing Day.

Davinson Sanchez returned from his suspension to take his place in the back four, with Eric Dier shifting to midfield. Harry Winks was missing with a minor ankle injury.

Two assists for Alli signalled brief respite from a miserable run of form, yet the controversy of the early penalty, plus his challenge that may well have warranted a dismissal, overshadowed those events.

Alli remains on the periphery of Fantasy thinking, while even a resurgent Christian Eriksen is struggling to compete for midfield selection in our squads.

The Dane blanked on Saturday having returned in each of his last four Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Whats your thoughts on KDB vs Hazard? And is KDB worth 2,1 more than Silva?

I feel Silva offers the best value, but is the less explosive player. Thinking KDB is a better captainchoice he can justify that price, but if Sterling becomes the better captainoption then that things change.

I brought him in for a hit for this week and watching him play was excruciating. I don't know if he was just having an off day but everything he did turned to crap. I felt embarrassed for him and was almost relieved when he got taken off. He could have easily have picked up a yellow. I think I'm swapping for Silva.

The whole team looked disjointed at first though and he was taken off as they were really stepping up the pace a bit. He may have improved if he had stayed on.

Hmm, it seems like he lost the ball more times than not and there was a couple times towards the end of the hour when he looked like he had just given up. He has been making some good runs without getting service throughout the first half, then when he did get service both his first touch and passing was really off. I was very unimpressed.

He has as much chance of a big haul as any othe City attacker, all of which have been sold on mass and then turn in big hauls. I’ve had Sane and Sterling since very early on, just ride the blanks and then take the hauls, otherwise you will just keep swapping City attackers

problem with Sane since Mendy injury is that every game Pep tells him just to stand on the sideline to provide width, he hardly ever gets in and around the box, unlike Sterling

So much hanging out on the wing, that makes sense if he's under strict instruction, he looked really frustrated.

It seems very jerky but worth doing Sane to Sterling for a hit? I just feel if I do that Leroy will then start firing again. Blinded by his hair.

Silva - but I actually prefer him to Sane.

    (C) Salah/Sterling and hope no bench cameo due to rotation or play it safer with Morata who’s as close to guaranteed start as anyone this GW?

I wouldn't go for Sterling. Him and Aguero played 90 so reckon Jesus and B Silva come in midweek. Gamble with Salah or Morata.

I'm pretty certain that Salah will play (no inside info just my thoughts) so think he's the best option if no Kane. Hazard better option than Morata if you have him

Think I need to dump tark as mariappa is also a non starter. Would need a playing bench in case of rotation

In that case Tarkowski to Schindler, Robertson or Kenny. Not entirely convinced by Liverpool's defence and Robertson is a short-term option.

      Keep Tark
If you happy with your attack I would do Marri to Kenny

I suggest Tark to Kenny/Robertson. A lot of rotations in the coming three game weeks. Sarah/cout/sterling/Quaner maybe rotated, now Tark is definitely out but Mariappa may get a game. So in short-run keeping Mari is better choice.

You may save a FT at GW21, then see what to do by GW22. Keeping Mari till that time has another advantage as you will have $0.5 more to plan the DGW. You can sell him for any tot/whm defenders, or as an enabler for the others. Burnley still has terrible fixture coming up, not worth keep now imo.

My ML rival is now 100 points ahead and is top 2k, he has always ended up far behind every season, but he has had crazy luck this time.

    Next round we got:

    DDG v Adrian
    Otamendi v Alonso
    Christensen v Surman
    Pogba v Morata
    Richarlison v DCL

My team to the left, so we will se if his luck somehow still continue
