Scout Notes

Scout Notes – City Suffer Injury Blows

Manchester City’s run of victories hits the buffers at Selhurst Park where injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne overshadow events in a 0-0 stalemate. Meanwhile, Arsenal are pegged back by a controversial late penalty at The Hawthorns.

Pep Guardiola has revealed that striker Gabriel Jesus will be sidelined for at least a month having suffered a knee problem in the first half of the draw with Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian sustained the injury after 20 minutes, finally succumbing shortly afterwards as Sergio Aguero – initially rested today – emerged to replace him.

Guardiola conceded that Jesus will now be sidelined.

“Hopefully he [Jesus] will be one month, maybe two months he will be out.”

City also lost Kevin De Bruyne late on, after he received a clattering challenge from the Eagles’ Jason Puncheon. Guardiola had this to say on the Belgian’s setback.

“With Kevin we have been lucky in the past with what has happened from the same actions. I don’t know what will happen in the future. He may not be ready for Watford in a few days.”

De Bruyne was initially stretchered from the field but was seen walking on the injury with help from the City medical team.

He will be assessed before the visit from Watford for Gameweek 22 on Tuesday, though some 87,000 managers have already made the midfielder the fifth most sold asset ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Having scored just once in two matches – and with the invention of David Silva still missing as his personal issues continue – Guardiola will be keen to have De Bruyne available.

He chose to recall Leroy Sane to the left flank against the Eagles, resting Raheem Sterling and retaining Bernardo Silva in the starting XI.

Sterling will surely return to start against the Hornets, with both Bernardo Silva and Sane also in line to face Marco Silva’s side should De Bruyne miss out.

Sane was largely disappointing in today’s clash and is now without a goal in eight Gameweek starts, recording just three assists in that run since Gameweek 11.

While his stock continues to decline, Aguero’s could now be revived.

With Jesus sidelined, it would seem that the Argentine is poised for a run of guaranteed starts, with Guardiola’s alternative options in attack limited unless he delves into the January market.

Milivojevic fluffs his lines

City’s afternoon could have been far worse had Luka Milivojević converted a late spot-kick.

A controversial award, it remains to be seen if Wilfried Zaha will face any FA retribution for his role in winning the penalty. The challenge on him from Sterling looked to involve minor contact, though there has been no announcement as yet.

Zaha was again the key threat for Palace and, as it stands, will be free to face Southampton on Tuesday.

However, the Eagles are set to be without Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon; both were stretchered from the field in Sunday’s bruising contest.

Roy Hodgson had made a raft of changes to his starting XI, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek among the notable absentees. No details on an injury to the loanee midfielder have yet been revealed, though Hodgson stated post-match that he hoped to have some unavailable players returning for the Saints trip…

“We will recover one or two players who were unable to play today before the Southampton game.”

Gunners denied by Baggies rally

The afternoon kick-off at The Hawthorns was far less eventful in Fantasy terms, with neither Arsenal or West Brom contributing key assets to our squads currently.

Alexis Sanchez did at least maintain his impressive recent form with an assist via a direct free-kick that deflected off James McClean for the opening goal.

The Chilean has now produced a goal or an assist in seven of his last ten Gameweeks. However, he is still a long way from tempting investors given his 11.8 price tag.

Arsenal were eventually pegged back when Kieran Gibbs earned an assist having drawn a controversial handball decision from referee Mike Dean. Jay Rodriguez converted the penalty that followed.

Arsene Wenger kept faith with the three-man defence on Sunday, with Callum Chambers retained on the right-side of that backline. That meant that Sead Kolasinac kept his left wing-back berth at the expense of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

That may remain the case for the Gameweek 22 clash with Chelsea, with Wenger perhaps set to mirror the Blues’ formation. However, Kolasinac is an early doubt for that encounter having been withdrawn early on 37 minutes with a knock.

Mesut Ozil will also need to be assessed for Tuesday’s fixture – he sat out Sunday’s draw with a minor knee problem.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you have 3 decent defenders this week I think not.
I have Ogbonna and putting Dunk on the bench which may not work out.
But Ogbonna does have better fixtures after this week too.

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 22

In Poland and I didn’t realise next GW is tomorrow... I know results are behind, it’ll be caught up shortly - sorry!

    ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

Gameweek winners will also be awarded a spot in the Community Roundup article.

    ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit on team value) but with one simple rule,

YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
(yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must comply with FPL formation rules and be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

    GK
    DEF DEF DEF
    MID MID MID MID
    FOR FOR FOR

Deadline for this gameweek is Monday 1st January 11.30am.

    ****** SCORING ******

Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

    1st place: 3 points
Top 4% of the population will rank "second" and score 2 points.
Top 10% of the population will rank "third" and score 1 point.

There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. If you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 10% scoring positions or not.

Welcome to the game, and good luck.

    ***** THE LEAGUE STANDINGS *****

I had saved 2 FTs, was all set to DEFINITELY not spend my wildcard early....

But I've pressed the button because I want Aguero and I've never been a fan of -12s.

was set on -4 my self but ended up on -12, but mainly because i wanted to shift to a more solid mid five with Firmino as sesond striker. It is a -12 which involves some dgw players but also a shift in formation and also more nailed on players so i never considered wc, but -12 is teep i reckon and have never done -12, only -8 before. Those minus points could of course be wasted but felt i had to do something to freshen up. And it´s new year and all that, so why not?

        Fair play...
Personally, I just can’t make any moves work with 0itb(hits or no hits)....It really just comes down to Keeping Morata or not! and with the fixtures, I still just can’t see a better option?

Morata 10.6 is a difficult one, as a striker for Chelsea you would assume that is a fair price but i was initially sceptical before the season as to wether he would cope with beeing nr one striker (never has been in italy or spain) and i also thought it was a downgrade from Costa, not necessarily interms of quality but i think Costa more suited to play the way Chelsea play. The season have showed both that Morata wasn´t ready for a whole season but he does offers goals alas he misses quite a few, so all in all i´m not convinced yet. Kane at 12.8 and Firmino at 9 and Kun 11.6 atm seems better options to me.

Agree with pretty much everything u wrote mate...
Except that Firmino is a better option.
I am a LFC Supporter; and when it come to Firmino—the first thought that comes to mind has to be: ‘FRUSTRATING’...
Personally, I actually like him(increasingly so this season)...but Both as a pool fan & an FPL asset; he just doesn’t seems to come through when we need it. The fact that he’s shining now—about 16gw’s AFTER Mark & many others (including me), predicted he could be THE Striker Solution—is an example of the ‘Firmino-Fallacy’ (and Blanks in the next 3 GW’s will cement it!...lol)
HOWEVER, this Season (plus new-ish role) has been the best i’ve seen from Firmino! IMO, there’s no doubt that he’s a vital part of Klopps attack/buildup/creation/football...I’m just not conceived that consistent FPL pts will be the result (certainly hasn’t been so far)?

on the same page here,he is inconsistent and frustrating both in fpl and as liverpool supporter he tends to frustrate. But at 9.1 as he is now compared to Morata 1.5 m more when you look at the way the two teams play and also the points between them atm i think Firmino is a slightly better alternative, but this is also a discussion which never seems to be taken into consideration; strikers are by natur the most vulnerable position both in terms of real life and fpl, their form depends not only on the team as whole but also we know that strikers are confidence players above any, when they score everything kind of gets right but when they are in a rut it digs deep. And as much i´ve seen form Morata he is sloppy too in his finishing, wasteful. Firmino also great for bonus in that he tackles and create so almost everytime he is on scoresheet he gets bonus

More likely that Liverpool scores aplenty than United so Kenny. But Burnley could frustrate Liverpool so not a given that one. Burnley seems to have lost their defensive momentum (5 goals in two matches vs Spurs and United. Liverpool have a broader squad and Burnley could suffer from fatigue (9 out of eleven have started the last two matches and if they rotate they wil be immensely weakened). United looks of the pace but Lukaku abscency could actually mean a more freeflowing attack. Don´t envy your choice-)

Taken a minus 8 and lining up like this

    Lloris (DGW)
Alonso - Maguire - Masuaku (DGW)
Sterling - Richarlison - Son (DGW) - Lanzini (DGW)
Morata - Firmino - Kane (DGW)

Bench: Elliot - Dunk - Kenny - Surman

    5 dgw players and -8.

Is it worth taking another -4 for Richarlison to Arnie?

    OR

Is it worth using wildcard to also bring in Alli and Aguero

      why the hell choupo?

it looks ok, but not sure how profitable it will be, as there will be very small gws to come but depends on what you have originally. Masuaku and Adrian feels a bit much, maybe just Adrian? But as you go all in, maybe just leave it, if they get a cs vs West brom it pays off
