Apparently Roman turned up at training Saturday for the first time in months and gave him a half hour grilling. Then went down to the dressing room after the game for more of the same!

good morning, checking back in as the zone begins its daily rise from the dead. shortened version of an earlier post, got a real tough spot here....

    Sorensen (lindegaard)

    Vermaelen, Richards, Senderos

    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon, Dyer

    RVP, Aguero

(Santon, Huth, D Cisse) 1 FT, .3 in bank.

plan is to wait for hopeful lifting of huth ban, keep him and cisse benched. Do Verm->Evans, cisse->ba next week.
OR if huth ban stays, huth->kelly or caulker, cisse->ba next week.

so i would lose money on holding these RC players probably, and ba's going to be .2 more before i can get him, but the starting XI, outside of my keeper are all capable of something i should think. Really hard not to jump right in and take these damn red card players out, but i think exercising patience is the difficult but prudent decision here. What say you?

not ideal XI but not terrible right Gaz? i just dont see how im going to gain any ground with it. I went for Verm and Cisse as sources of differentials. Now one definitely wont do anything, the other probably wont.

thats why im thinking dyer->sigurdsson instead, hoping to get another haul before everyone buys in.

well, certainly, if you are planning him as a permanent squad member, and will not be taking a hit, I would do that particular one during the week (before any rises)

Could you be so kind give me some toughts on this?

    My front eight is pretty standard;
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sess, Walters
    Rvp, Aguero, Ba

I took Walters in for gw's 24, 26 and 27. One played and already lost 0.1 on value. My confidence for him is going
down and I can't see myself dropping anyone else for him even on those good fixtures 26 and 27.

    What do you think?
    a) keep him and play gw26 and 27 (benching sess)
    b) change for mcclean and bench him + get money to fund lindegaard => krul gw26
    c) change for siggy and get another benching dilemma for gw's 25 and 27!!! Got the money for linde move too..

    Cheers for any replies!

I had Walters at Xmas, two games 16 points, then sold him for Sess, worked out swimmingly! My other cheapie is Sinclair, happy with him though Siggy looks good and cheaper. To play Sinclair/Siggy at home you've got to drop a big hitter to accomodate. Make a great 12th man though! I'd do that, bin Walters, keep whoever you get on the bench as first sub and go 3-4-3 each week.

In the second half of the season, it's little things like Kompany missing out that can change mini-leagues, especially when you have a Richards vs Kompany scenario going on. 6pts might not seem much in the grand scheme of things, but it all adds up. Just need to hope to get lucky with injuries more often than not.

Was this the qualifier gameweek for the members cup? That's incredible news if so, haven't qualified for a single one in 1,5 seasons and should make this one!

To all those saying Ba is playing deeper, this has pretty much always been the case...
    Look at the average positions of these matches;
    Blackburn (his first hat-trick) - http://soccernet.espn.go.com/gamecast?id=318151&cc=3436
As you can see his average position is behind Leon Best, and Gabriel Obertan, in this game, according to ESPN stats (I don't think they count blocked shots) he registered 4 shots (3 on, 1 off, 3 goals)
Man United (Newcastles best game) - http://soccernet.espn.go.com/gamecast?id=318027&cc=3436
Again, his average position is well behind his striker partner (Ameobi) and is only slightly behind the right winger, Ryan Taylor, again..according to ESPN he had 3 shots (2 on, 1 off, 1 goal)
Aston Villa (first game with Cisse) - http://soccernet.espn.go.com/gamecast?id=318091&cc=3436
There you can see his average position was not only similar to Cisse's, but it is also further forward than where he played against United, and slightly further back than against Blackburn, due to the opposition most likely.
Just wanted to get that off my chest, these are 3 randomly chosen games...every other game I have looked at he has been 2nd striker also.

Good post, this. Only thing that still makes me interested in this though is that Cissé probably is twice the player Best and Ameobi are, and might steal points

Definitely a good point, the main point of it was that Ba is playing in the same role, so his points potential isn't ruined by Cisse coming in, however Cisse could definitely steal points.
Also forgot to mention Ba had 4 shots against Villa too, and Man City 😛

Looking at the shots / goals in your selected matches it strongly hints Ba is a very efficient striker. Remember a few GWs ago Chris posted an analysis of shots / goals for PL strikers. Love to see where Ba lies on the graph. RVP was shown as insanely efficient... but we knew that 😉

I dont get this 'steal points' idea, I think its a myth. An efficient strike partnership doesnt operate that way - look at Shearer and Ferdinand setting each other up constantly (oh Lord I hope this one is as good). Surely 'point stealing' only happens in the world where Obertan beats five players, stops at the edge of the 18 yard box, looks up and sees both Cisse and Ba unmarked and screaming for the ball - he then chooses Cisse. In that case yeah Cisse will steal points.
But then that requires Obertan to beat 5 players.

Stealing points is based on the assumption that total goals scored remain similar but your man gets less of them. So all that needs to happen is Cisse becoming a more attractive target for assisters than Best/Ameobi are - which is almost certainly true. However it is also true Toon should score more in which case Ba may break even or profit. Stay tuned.

Made it pretty hard for us to argue by adding that Obertan scenario, hah! 🙂

In all seriousness though, my logic is just that Ba would score five times as many goals as Best/Ameobi did while partnering him. The likely scenario for me is that Newcastle overall will score more goals, but that Cissé will score a bigger proportion of them than Best and Ameobi.

Anyway as said above though, the main reason why this is interesting is because Cissé might even outscore Ba and then I'd want him instead!

    Morning All,

Just trying to weigh up who is the better pick out of Valencia and Sess. I chose to get Valenicia in my wildcard and McClean to try and cover Sess, which so far has worked out. However, Im not sure McClean is going to consistantly bring back points, and potentialy could keep both him and Sess anyway. Will Valencias gametime be threatend by the return of Nani/Young or has he secured the right wing postion?

I'd say we were playing more of a 3-4-1-2 to be honest. Plus Valencia wasn't really playing that well yesterday, he kept stalling his runs on the wing and never really tried to take on Bosingwa....could it be Bosingwa's positioning was actually good?

Is it just me or does Young diminish the other wingers game, whoever it may be seems Nani wasn't so great start of the season and came good (real life wise) when Young was out, now same for Valencia (okay it's been one game, but still)

Yeah sort of, we tried going down the left a lot more than the right which to be honest was very unpredictable. Still I think we could've utilised Valencia more...people are bound to moan about it though as it's the first time he's done nothing FPL-wise for ages haha.

Possibly, but the mystery is that IMO Young was barely involved in the play at all (!) So he was hardly stealing or wasting possession. More likely, Nani is more of a dynamic team player that contributes more to moves (a la Welbeck vs. Chico).

Maybe it was more a case that Valencia's single skill move to beat his man of feinting one way then tapping it the other and making a mad dash for it wasn't going to work against someone with the pace of Bosingwa.

The monotony and predicatablitly of this move has worked against the likes of Cashley though. Hmmm, I don't know but I agree that he didn't play well.

I bet Bosingwa was told (due to being OOP) in no uncertain terms not to go forward but to play a strict destructive game, and he showed with a well defined objective he could do a job.

Still skeptical on him generally of course.

He might be a victim of the disastrous high line system AVB tried to work this season (and has rowed back from).

Still think Luiz is totally the wrong man for the job though. Look at where he was for the Chico goal.

I doubt it. No reason to limit our in-form attacker (before yesterday) by playing him there with the players we have available in that position now. Felt Young was very poor yesterday too.

I expect Valencia and Nani to play against Liverpool.
