FFS Cup

Fantasy Football Scout Cups – The Winners

The time has come to reveal the victors in our two Fantasy Premier League cup competitions after weeks of intense competition concluded with Gameweek 26’s dramatic finals.

In the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, TH14 joins donnellyc, Gribude, Ninja_Fit_Saints, Wild Rover, Mark, A Manager Has No Name, Sleepysi and myself in getting his name on the cup after a nail-bitingly close final against Elvarus.

Our new champion, who is 10,830 in the overall rankings, edged past  35th-placed Elvarus by just one point, winning 49-48.

Neither made a transfer going into this tie, but it was TH14’s backing of Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez with the armband that proved pivotal, with the Chilean earning him 10 points after netting the rebound from his initial penalty miss against Huddersfield.

Elvarus opted to captain Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who delivered a mere four-point return. This costly move wiped out the advantage he’d gained from fielding David De Gea, who was the only defensive player among the pair’s squads to deliver clean sheet points.

Congratulations to TH14, who receives a £150 Amazon voucher, while Elvarus’ efforts earn him a £100 Amazon voucher.

In the Fantasy Football Scout Cup third place play-off,  Ezdmanx recorded a comfortable 46-34 win over former FPL champion Tom Fenley and is handed a £50 Amazon voucher for his efforts.

The underdog also prevailed in the Members Cup, with 40,936-placed rrcmc defeating the 7,552-ranked graslauk 58-41.

Rrcmc joins Waltzingmatildas, Fuzzy Dunlop, Kippax Kickers Acquafresca, Trigg Ola Svanheld and Malaikat Jahad in the roll call of Members Cup winners and receives a £150 Amazon voucher.

Although both made transfers, neither of their moves affected the final outcome, with rrcmc swapping Spurs’ Son Heung-min for Everton winger Theo Walcott, who both blanked.

Meanwhile, graslauk, who wins a £100 Amazon voucher as runner-up, moved Walcott’s team-mate Dominic Calvert-Lewin out for Swansea City’s Jordan Ayew.

Even though the Everton striker found the net, it was events at Anfield that proved crucial, with rrcmc’s captain Mohamed Salah scoring a brace and delivering him 30 points.

Graslauk’s armband selection, Harry Kane, could only produce an eight-point return after scoring one penalty for Spurs, but missing another.

A goal from Jamie Vardy against Swansea and six saves from Burnley stopper Nick Pope in the draw with Man City saw Rrcmc comfortably over the finish line.

Gloria Kanchelskis receives a £50 Amazon voucher after winning the Members Cup third place play-off against Root 38-35.

Congratulations to the winners.

A second free to enter Fantasy Football Scout Cup will take launch very soon, with the Qualifying Round set for Gameweek 29. Stay tuned for details.

    Thoughts on this?

    DDG
    Robertson Francis Alonso
    Sterling Salah Shaqiri Richarilson
    Kane Niasse Aguero (C)

    Adrian Albrighton Lascelles Maguire

    Looked at potentially doing

    Richarilson to Deulfeou
    or
    Lascelles to Bauer

I’d start with sorting the problems with the mids and fwds first. Richarlison and Niasse major concerns there imo.

Aye, youre right, mate. Richarilson has the fixtures but a sideways move wouldnt be the worst. I think next week I will downgrade Alonso and look at getting rid of Niasse. Cheers

I like Deulofeu and I’m thinking of getting him in but I’m just concerned about his previous record, fitness wise. He often looks knackered come the second half and I wonder if that’s the reason he’s not been consistent in the past. Saying that, he looked ok v Chelsea so perhaps hes been able to improve on that since he left Everton. One lung Gerri they used to call him 😀
He could be on the bench before you know it but then again he be in for some hauls too. I’m very tempted. Ideally I’d like to see a couple more games but by then you could’ve missed the boat, differential wise.

Aye, he certainly passed the eye test vs Chelsea. I can see his price increasing a fair bit too with people looking for Lingard replacements. I'm going to have a think about it all. As always, cheers for your input

Stimps - not sure why you think that?

Over last 10 gameweeks Kun has scored nearly as many as Kane (62 vs 67 points)
Over last 5 gameweeks he has in fact outscored Kane (36 vs 29 points) (and in fact Kun has the same amount of points as Salah over the last 5).

His work rate, movement and pace pretty much guarantee he will get chances. It's frustrating to own him when he misses gimmes, but I don't see how his points will ever really dry up.

What do we think of Swansea atm?

Carvalhal seems to be doing a great job. I've read his book about 'tactical periodisation' and it's a brilliant way of looking at the game. It's the same methodology Jose uses religiously.

With an 8-1 against Notts County, wins against Arsenal and Pool, and great fixtures coming up... the Swans are soaring at the moment!

Who would you say are the main FPL assets from their team?

I'm a wednesday fan, and TBH I wanted shot of him after the playoff in June, we'd stagnated and his signings were gash or poorly used

However, I'm happy to see him doing well for Swansea as he is an incredibly decent man and a very good tactical coach

I have 10.7m wrapped up in Hazard.

West Brom could bend the knee to a well needed massacre. Keep or Dump?

Dump. Unless you need to punt every game you play but it's an expensive punt

I'd keep him. Chelsea could have a bounce back, and even if they don't Eden is capable of producing, as proven against Watford.

Chelsea should have Fabregas, Alonso & Giroud/Morata playing - I'm thinking of captaining him tbh - keep

With just a little bit planning having 7-8 players in GW31 isnt very hard. Those team are not full of heavy hitters so potential edge those who use FH for that week isnt that big.
GW35 could be more troublesome. But DGW37 also possible (or use TC there)
So if you have all chips left in which GW best use of FH?
    A) Blank31
    B) Blank35
    C) DGW37

I think central strikers will be almost extinct in 10 years. There is just little point in keeping a man sitting between two CBs. It doesn't stretch the defence or cause it to tilt or distort. That extra man can help make some wonderful passing diamonds in every phase of play. Count the diamonds: 😀

    ST......................................ST
    ....................AMC...................
    .........CM,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,CM..........
    WB...............DM...............WB
    .........CB..................CB..........
    .....................GK.....................

When a WB pushed up, the closest ST moves into the half-space, forming the tip of another diamond, directed right at a dangerous channel.

Next season I think I'll be playing a 352 or 451. Wide strikers like Sane, Sterling, Salah, Mane, Hazard, Pedro, Martial, Sanchez are generally classed as midfielders, and will be scoring a large portion of their team's goals.

A tactical shift has been coming ever since Pep's dominance with Barca!

    .
Agree/disagree? Do you think FPL will classify these players as strikers soon?

'There is just little point in keeping a man sitting between two CBs. It doesn't stretch the defence or cause it to tilt or distort.' Leicester won the league because Jamie Vardy did exactly this (amongst other reasons obviously).

It's a nice setup though and is obviously being deployed with great success already, but all current approaches will stay relevant - long live the centre forward.

I see possession systems and counter-attack systems as completely different entities. Yeah you're right, in counter-attack systems central strikers may remain, so mainly in lower table sides.

I was too fixated on possession in top sides 😀

😀 yeah, if I was building a team I would base it on the system above - just much more entertaining and skilful

So to counter 1 striker vs 2 CB's
You're suggesting teams keep 2 CB's whilst opponents play 2 strikers?

I'm sure it would need to be adjusted against a 3 CB formation. But generally the wide men are seen as wingers so teams will likely want deeper full-backs than wing-backs.

But sitting in the 'Golden Zone' or #10 position causes the CBs to either leave their area (making room for wide ST), or grant the #10 space on the ball. During the attacking phase the ST will drift centrally on one side, so there will be presence there at the right time. During build up there's little point in having anyone there though, unless you want to counter-attack.

Dunno just a theory based on what I've read from Cruyff and Pep.

Chelsea not paying till Monday so we probably won’t get any news on Christensen and Alonso before the deadline, right?

Press conference will still be before the deadline. There will be news floating around if he's been seen participating in training etc,
