Community Watch – Matchweek 19

After 18 dramatic Matchweeks and 180 games our Community Watch tournament has reached the business end of the competition, as 10 teams battle it out for one of six precious knockout stage places.

Matchweek 18 Review

Fashanu Zealand reclaimed top spot after an 18 point win over Germane.

Hungary Neville lost to Bolivia Giroud after winning 11 of their last 12 games. They drop to second place, while the win puts Bolivia in a good position to qualify for the knockouts.

Ibeland beat Gaboniadini by 60 points and sit in third, while Afghanistanislas were thrashed by Emre Canada by a 67 point margin. That’s the Canadian’s second big loss in two games as they conspire to make an easy qualification suddenly look difficult.

Grabbangladesh delivered a Gameweek high 411 points to beat Russia, which kept them alive in the race for a knockout spot. The Reussian’s now sit in sixth position with what looks like a must win game coming up.

Belgium and Kenyaya also won their  games and keep their qualification hopes alive, with the former beating Messidonia, who now sit tenth on the league table and will need a special performance to make the knockouts.

Early runaway favourites Mozambique have squandered their advantage with six consecutive losses. This time around they lost to Georgia Boyd by a mere two points, with qualification now looking unlikely. The Georgians continue to ride their luck, having won their previous encounter by a solitary point.

Full results can be found here.

Qualification Scenarios

Fashanu Zealand: Already guaranteed a top two league spot. A win would see them stay in first.

Hungary Neville: Through to the knockouts already. The top two spot looks good for them even if they lose as their competitors will need huge wins to bridge the points gap.

Ibeland: A win guarantees qualification. Their decent overall points total might take them through even if they lose.

Bolivia Giroud: Again, a win guarantees qualification. A loss will knock them out as their overall points total is second worst among the top ten.

Afghanistanislas: A win takes them through. A loss and they would need all of Russia, Belgium, Kenyaya and Messidonia to lose in order to qualify.

Reussia: They need a win, and hope that no other team below then bridges the point difference between them.

Grabbangladesh: They need a win and then need a couple of results going their way to ensure qualification.

Balegium: They need a win and hope that one of Bolivia Giroud/Reussia lose.

Kenyaya: They need a big win and hope most of their competitors lose.

Messidonia: They need a big win and hope all of their competitors lose as they have the lowest overall FPL points in the top 10.

Mozampique,Cech Republic and Georgia Boyd have an outside chance of qualification.

Note: All these qualification scenarios have been worked up by a human brain. If something mentioned doesn’t go to plan, apologies.

Here is the update on the some of the key clashes (I have excluded Hungary Neville v Messidonia as it has been posted above):

Btw, the below assumes that Christensen won't play, if he does, it will favour Mbokani Faso and Georgia Boyd. I apologise in advance if there are any mistakes.

    Bolivia Giroud: Hazard X4
    Salahmon Islands: +32, Azpilicueta

    Gaboniadini: +72
    Kenyaya: Hazard, Alonso X4

    Mbokani Faso: +23
    Balegium: Alonso, Courtois

    Georgia Boyd: +29, Alonso
    Reussia: Azpilicueta X4

1: Fashanu Zealand 39 (Q) won this week
            2) Hungary Neville (Q) (result undecided but can’t be overtaken as high total)
            ——————————————
            3) Ibeland 36 (won this week)
            4) Afghanistanislas 33 (high total FPL points and almost certainly won this week)

Top 3 already through and Afghans almost certainly through.
That leaves 2 teams from: (points and total FPL score is from before this week started)

Bolivia Giroud 33 (8204) in a tight game, could go either way
Reussia 30 (8351) looking at a loss but could still win
Grabbangladesh 30 (8336) almost certainly lost this week)
            Balegium 30 (8277) looking at a loss
            Kenyaya 30 (8207) looking at a loss
Messidonia 30 (8114) tight game, slight favourites
            Mozampique 27 (8349) in a tight game

BG looking good to be one of those 2 but could still not make the play offs if they lose and other results go against them. Mozampique could still qualify, if all the teams on 30 were to lose (Messidonia the toughest) and they were to win, it would leave 6 teams level on 30 points fighting for one last spot and it would go down to total FPL points.
As it stands I’d make Bolivia Giroud and Messidonia favourites to make up those last 2 spots.

            * This is all done by me alone just by glancing at screenshots of table last week so may not be totally accurate.

Yeah, I probably should have included Mozampique in this, they have a chance if they win.

That’s including known autosubs I should say. Left the total Alonso’s in as a no show will cause havoc

      • Jay_
          6 years, 2 months ago

          Looks like Bolivia Giroud qualify.
The other spot tight. Looks like the Georgia Boyd-Reussia, Alonso autosubs are going to be critical. Reussia just edging it before autosubs. If they win, they go through, if they lose, Messidonia go through.

According to my calculations yesterday, Messidonia go through due to 2 points - needs to be double-checked though.

Messidonia: +41 before this game (taking in account auto-subs etc)
              Reussia: Azpilicueta X4, Christensen

I was only working from your top of the page post (GB +29 Alonso, Reussia Azpi x 4)

That had Reussia edging it. Sorry if I’ve confused you here mate. Let’s both double check that game now to be sure

Georgia Boyd were only +29 yesterday because I thought Christensen wouldn't make it, should have made it clear. In such a case, Naughton would have come on for Reussia. Instead, Naughton is stuck on the bench and Georgia Boyd have 11 added points. That's +40 but Christensen plays.

Alonso auto-subs favours Georgia Boyd by 1 point, so +41.

The 2nd Hazard goal completed the comeback for Bolivia Giroud. I make the final score 640-630. Good luck in the playoffs.

With that the Salahmons slink off into obscurity. It was fun while it lasted. Huge respect and thanks to the organisers for making it happen - and best of luck to those still in the running. We will be watching and learning.

This score is correct. Hazard saves our day yet again. Good finish to the tournament, and could have qualified, only if we had avoided the string of losses in the mid season games.

After being so terrible for so long in the tournament and nothing to play for (sitting rock bottom of the league table), we finish it off by absolutely thumping Team Mozampique 750 - 662.
Another loss for team Mozampique (I think that's 7 in a row), but that is still much better than our team's losing streak (probably 10 in a row) so cheer up 🙂

Special mention to our matchweek captain Cheltnamshire Lalala, who managed to send us his team in time for the deadline, despite his marriage on the very same day. We just had to captain you on your special day mate !!!!!

Thanks QPR and D91, TO and SB. No Aguero didnt help the celebrations but 93 points without him was pretty decent in the end! Very glad we could sign off with a big win in honour of the event 🙂

Wow. 3 more FPL points and we'd have made it to the KOs. A late call (2 mins before deadline) to bench Tim Howard's Beard instead of me cost us qualification. I only found out I wasn't benched when I just looked at the results haha! #notbitter

We have had a super time. Sadly, we have mislaid one along the way(mail me, Ali?), but everyone, including Zygaenid, has contributed.

Yep agree with this. The 'google hangouts' group created for the team has been great fun and informative. Hopefully we can keep the same teams for next year? We've set up an end of season head to head league for the Belgium team so we don't lose touch.
