With Premier League action resuming this weekend, we have launched our latest Captain Poll to canvass your views on the best armband options for Gameweek 28.

Leader of the Gameweek 27 poll, Mohamed Salah (10.4) is likely to dominate voting once again as Liverpool host a West Ham side with just one clean sheet from their last nine league run outs.

The Egyptian’s goal in last week’s 5-0 Champions League rout of Porto last week was his 30th in all competitions this season.

Salah has already bagged 15 points away to the Hammers in Gameweek 11, while seven of his 12 sets of double-figure returns have arrived at Anfield.

Furthermore, he remains the most consistent captaincy option around, with attacking returns in all but two of his last 18 league appearances.

Roberto Firmino (9.2), who also scored against the Portuguese side last time out, is another reliable option. The Brazilian has three goals and a pair of assists in his last five league starts.

Yet at home, he has been involved in just under a third (30%) of his side’s goals, compared with Salah’s impressive 62%.

Sadio Mane (9.3)’s hat-trick against Porto could see the Senegalese winger garner support, even though he last scored in the league in Gameweek 23.

Mane has managed double-digit returns just twice this season, though encouragingly for his owners, one of those arrived in that trip to the London Stadium.

Away to a Crystal Palace outfit that has shipped nine goals in the last four Gameweeks, Harry Kane (12.8) cannot be overlooked.

His goal from the spot against Rochdale in the FA Cup on Sunday was his fourth in his last five matches in all competitions. Away from home, Kane is the top-ranked player for goals (12), attempts (55), penalty area efforts (37) and shots on target (21). Indeed, four of his eight sets of 10+ points hauls have been recorded on the road.

Kane has also found the net in two of his three league visits to Selhurst Park.

Surprisingly, he is currently the most sold striker with 47,000 Fantasy Premier League managers ditching him ahead of Gameweek 28.

Christian Eriksen (9.2) – who joined Kane on the scoresheet in the 2-2 away draw with Juventus in the Champions League – offers an in-form alternative. The Dane has two goals and as many assists in his last four league outings.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy (8.6) has upped his consistency of late; the Foxes frontman has scored in each of his last four league matches and also fired the only goal in Friday’s FA Cup win over Sheffield United.

Vardy hosts the Premier League’s worst away side, Stoke City, at the King Power Stadium this weekend. The Potters have shipped a league-high 32 goals and kept just one clean sheet on their travels. That includes five goals in two away outings under new manager Paul Lambert.

Vardy’s team-mate Riyad Mahrez (8.6) may also gather votes after making his return to the fold. The Algerian – who set up Vardy’s goal against the Blades on Saturday – has delivered a goal or assist in nine of his last 11 league starts.

Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson is another in-form frontman, handed a new lease of life in Fantasy terms by the fact that he could now feature in Gameweek 31. Before that, he enjoys a home fixture with a Newcastle United defence with just one clean sheet from their last 11 away matches. The Cherries’ striker has served up 12 points against both Arsenal and Chelsea in the previous five Gameweeks.

Manchester United’s home clash with Chelsea on Sunday may mute interest in assets from both camps. However, with four goals in his last three road trips, Blues playmaker Eden Hazard (10.7) could yet prove to be a shrewd alternative captaincy pick.

Arsenal’s home clash with Manchester City also looks hard to call, but their respective home and away form suggests this could be a high-scoring encounter.

On the road Pep Guardiola’s men have netted 29 goals, a tally only Liverpool can beat (34). However, the Sky Blues last kept a clean sheet on the road back in Gameweek 21, against Crystal Palace.

In front of their own fans, the Gunners have notched 36 times, which is second only to City (50). However, over their last four home matches, Arsene Wenger’s troops have failed to keep a clean sheet and shipped seven goals.

For the visitors Sergio Aguero (12.0) looks the stand-out selection, with six goals and two assists in his seven away starts. The Argentine is currently the most popular striker in FPL’s transfer market, with 119,000 managers swooping to acquire his services.

Both Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne were on the scoresheet against the Gunners back in Gameweek 11 – the Belgian’s 10-point haul was one of eight double-figure hauls this season.

Among the hosts’ assets, recent recruit Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (10.5) could prosper after scoring on his debut, at home to Everton, in Gameweek 26. In that encounter, another new Arsenal face Henrikh Mkhitaryan (7.8) also impressed, with a hat-trick of assists, which could see him earn support.

Mesut Ozil (9.3) is another intriguing captaincy candidate with three goals and four assists in his last seven Emirates encounters.

However, it is worth mentioning that if tonight’s FA Cup tie between Manchester City and Wigan goes to a replay, then their trip to the Emirates Stadium will be postponed.

Everton’s Theo Walcott (7.3) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (8.0) are among the other armband differentials. They face an away trip to face a Watford defence with the worst home record, conceding 26 goals in front of their own fans.

Sigurdsson’s goal and assist in his last league run out, at home to Crystal Palace, served as a reminder of his potential, while Walcott’s two successful strikes and one assist in his four Toffees’ starts has also impressed.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 28 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Good Plan?

    De Gea
    Ota Vert Alonso
    Sterling Shaq Salah Deloufeu
    Kane Aguero Wilson

    Subs: Elliot, Ogbona, Obiang, Mbemba

    GW28: Otamendi to VVD
    GW29: Aguero to Firmino
    GW30: Obiang to Walcot/Stanislas
    GW31: Elliot to Pickford

Will give me 8 players for 31... Good plan or maybe change GW 29 and 28 transfers?

Here's my strategy which I don't think anyone else has though of...

GW28: bring in a DGW player
GW29: bring in a DGW player
GW30: bring in a DGW player
GW31: FH to 15 players without blanks
GW32: bring in a DGW player
GW33: bring in a DGW player
GW34: BB 15 players in DGW
    GW35: WC to avoid blanks
    GW37: TC best DGW player
GW38: win all your mini leagues 😀

Depends how many players with a fixture in 31 you have in your team already vs how many DGW's you already have.

Looks good as an alternative strategy baring injuries/rotation, and a little different to the norm. Good luck, l hope it comes off for you. Respect for bucking the trend.

      I like your plan but:

1 - Do we already know all the DGW players?

2 - isn't this underrating your WC? I mean you would be using it just to avoid blanks when you could be using it in GW32 to structure your team until the end of season.

    7. Gommy
      • 15 Years
      7 years, 9 months ago

Sounds clever but its all pie in the sky and essentially flawed. You won't know all of the DGW players for a few more weeks and your strategy would only have a chance without any injuries, rotations, suspensions to any of your 15 "Potential DGW" players for the next 6 weeks. Highly unlikely.

That's besides the points already made above...one being that those who will use their Wildcards in GW32/33 would have a massive advantage over you going into the DGW's. They'll have a better picture and more flexibility to freshen their squads which will be vital.

Your GW32 WC is likely to be a bust flush with injuries and rotation (CL & EL fixtures) by the time you get to the second game of 34, and dead in the water by 37 😉

GW28: bring in a DGW player
GW29: bring in a DGW player
GW30: bring in a DGW player
GW31: FH to 15 players without blanks
GW32: bring in a DGW player
GW33: bring in a DGW player
GW34: BB in DGW, but holding a few key single game week players
GW35: take a -8, Liverpool, Arsenal and a few fillers etc
GW36: WC to get in doubles
      GW37: TC best DGW player
GW38: win all your mini leagues

GW36 is a complete waste, City's season will be over in the PL for starters.

Can I ask if you use your free-hit chip, is it valid for the whole week like a wildcard or do you have to do all of your transfers in one go?
Like if I brought in a player at the start of the week and he was injured in training or eaten by a lion could I replace him as part of the free-hit or would it cost -4?

tempted by Kane as my ML rival doesn't have him and i'm chasing, on the other hand don't want to lose any more ground so might play safe and go Salah as that's probably what he'll do, and i suspect Salah will score higher anyway

could do with a Kane(c) haul though as it would really make up some ground, plus i like a captain in one of the later games of the GW, always leaves some hope 🙂

      1. Toby Lerone
        • 10 Years

It seems as though kane could be a captain differential this week. But if salah goes nuts it would leave me further behind. I dropped 30k last week through not owning Kun and not captaining salah. Could be time to go with the crowd

        1. SAY MY NAME
          • 8 Years

yeah, i might play safe for now and hope to make up ground in BGW/DGWs, just having kane when rival doesn't will be a differential (but maybe not enough of one as i have nearly 100 points to make up)

can easily see salah having another 13+ points, not sure i'll want to miss that and see kane blank!

          Why 36? 34 or 37 more likely.

Champions League Quarter Final in 32, so maybe City involvement
Europa League Quarter Final in 33, so maybe Arsenal involvement
City v Brighton is already a double in 34
Champions League Semi Final in 35, so maybe City involvement.
GW36 the only free GW, unless Arsenal get to Europa league semi-final 😉
City a good chance of getting to FA Cup semi so would have a double in 37 anyway

Bugger, 1, 2 May ... I had that as 12 May on my spread sheet and in the wrong game week ... makes it even more complicated or a triple in 37 🙂

If City progress in all competitions I don’t think there are enough gameweeks ... triple here we come 🙂

Nah, Brighton game moved is the easy fix just in case they stay in all 3 competitions.

Thinking of 2 defence changes this week to defence below using free transfers. Good transfers or not ? And is Davies better option than Maguire?

    A Otamendi to Van Dijk
B Jones to Davies or Maguire

    Pope Adrián
    Alonso Otamendi Jones Ogbonna Kenny

To be honest I expect him to play most prem games he’s first choice now, it’s just the games around champions league fixtures that will be a worry

To those of you thinking of using free hit in gwk 31: Who are you actually going to get for that round? Obviously people will be getting 3 from Liverpool, but other than that i really don't know who I would get in on free hit (IF Spurs beat Rochdale that is)

It will be a low scoring week imo, if I had the freehit chip I wouldn’t use it on a gw with 4 games.

It’s not just that gameweek to consider though, it is the maximising premium players in all the gameweeks before 31 and not needing a WC after 31...

options fairly limited so not too difficult to choose:

      3 x pool
      shaq/doucoure/rich/daniels/hegazi/wilson/zanka/walcott/siggy/pick or lossl etc

I'm not using the FH but if I was this is probably what I'd go with:
      Pickford
      Dawson Daniels VVD
      Salah Walcott Siggy Shaq
      Firmino Beneke Wilson

I mucked around with a fake FH team, and the exercise was rather uninspiring. Not sure I'd use it in GW31 now.

Early transfer plan is still roughly the same as just after the last game was played in GW27 (feels an age ago):

    Alonso & Ota & Choupo Moting > VVD & Hegazi & Mane (-4)

Gives me 9 GW31 players. Hegazi rotates really well with Bauer my 4th DEF. Removing Choupo maybe seems a bit counter-intuitive but the defensive transfers generate so many funds. Wilson > Firmino would be the option but Wilson surely better value than Choupo, and everyone has Firmino.

    Would leave me with:

    Hennessey / Speroni
    VVD / Jones / Hegazi / Bauer / Mbemba
    Salah / Mane / Sterling / Walcott / McArthur
    Kane / Aguero / Wilson

    Thoughts? 🙂

I’m defintely doing Dcl > Firmino.

Who should I make way so I can afford that move?

    A) Alonso- leaves me with 5.3m. Potential Targets: Tripper, Fernandez, Mee, Bauer, Dawson

    B) Son- leaves me with 6.1m. Potential Targets: Stanislas, A.Ayew, Deulofeu, Mili
