Chelsea are knocked out of the Champions League, as expected, but their performance in Barcelona is a reminder that their key players still have much to give as the season nears its completion.

The 3-0 scoreline flattered Barca as individual errors – in particular from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois – scuppered an otherwise excellent team showing by the Blues, who out-shot their opponents 14-8.

Coach Antonio Conte made two changes from the side that beat Crystal Palace at the weekend, with Antonio Rudiger and Victor Moses replacing Gary Cahill and Davide Zappacosta.

That meant a second straight start up front for Olivier Giroud at the expense of Alvaro Morata, who only replaced him after 67 minutes last night, which in turn could be a significant development if the 1.5%-owned Frenchman retains his place for Chelsea’s domestic run-in.

Giroud’s inclusion has brought a genuine balance to the attack, freeing up Eden Hazard and, in particular, Willian.

The Brazilian was again excellent at the Nou Camp, firing in two shots and causing the home defence all manner of issues with his direct running.

Hazard was more subdued, but still managed three attempts and produced two key passes as Chelsea offered a consistent threat throughout the match despite going a goal down in just the third minute.

The most likely Chelsea player to score on the night, however, was Marcos Alonso.

The wing-back hit the post with a free-kick, one of a match-high four shots he had in an eye-catching attacking performance.

Blues defenders have been consistently sold by Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers during a six-Gameweek spell in which they’ve kept just one clean sheet.

Alonso has been no exception – he’s lost around 400,000 owners in that time frame – but his offensive threat remains undeniable, and it would be a surprise if he is not part of many Wildcard plans despite his budget-busting 7.2 price tag.

Short-term, there is little Fantasy interest in any of Conte’s players, however.

They have a blank Gameweek 31 as they’ll face Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals and follow that up with a huge home match against Spurs once the international break is done.

After that, though, their assets should return to our radars.

If Chelsea get past the Foxes and into the cup semi-finals, they’ll have two double Gameweeks to come.

The first, likely to be in Gameweek 34, would involve trips to Southampton and Burnley, while the second would probably feature home matches with Liverpool and Huddersfield in Gameweek 37.

Fixtures at home to West Ham and away at Swansea City and Newcastle round out their generally attractive league schedule.

On paper, Chelsea’s form – they’ve lost three of their last four matches in all competitions – doesn’t warrant investment in their players.

But the defeats came against both Manchester sides and Barca, all away from home, and last night’s performance was as positive a showing as a 3-0 defeat can be.

The defence remains a concern and Hazard’s 10.6 price means he can’t afford too many more off days – he’s served up consecutive blanks in the league – if he is to find a way into our Wildcard midfields.

Willian (7.0), however, offers value and fine form, while Alonso has the potential to deliver returns at both ends of the pitch – since returning from a two-match absence in Gameweek 28, only the Brazilian and Giroud have fired in more attempts than the wing-back’s six.

And if he continues to be handed starts by Conte, Giroud could be an interesting differential option up front, particularly as Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero are currently injured, and the latter is likely to be a rotation risk when Man City finally wrap up the league title and can concentrate fully on their Champions League ambitions.

Get on the Bournemouth bandwagon at home Vs worst team in the league. Wilson, King.

I own Wilson, Depoitre but most likely going Depoitre to Mounie or all out Bournemouth attack and getting King.

I own Firmino and Wilson - very happy with those two. I took Kane out for Tosun as a one week punt. Good recent form and little risk as wildcarding next week - fun to have a punt. Mounie, Benteke, Rondon or double up on Bournemouth the other options, I just felt like going differential.

Currently mid-table in my mini league. I'm planning to wc straight after this gameweek. But I want to avoid further price drop on Kane. So the plan is to transfer now, for someone who will play in gw31 and then be my 3rd striker to the end of the season. Who would you pick?

    A) Mounie
    B) King
    C) Wilson
    D) Benteke

Why do they have to be your third striker for the rest of the season if you're wildcarding next week? Can just change them out no?

Best pick for me is C, then B for this week. I wouldn't want any of them longer term particularly.

Which of these would you prefer on GW32 wildcard?

    A) Lukaku & Murray
    B) Firmino & Vardy

    1) Alonso & Murray
    2) 4.5 def & Vardy

    X) City mid
    Y) Firmino/Vardy

      Your choices all seem inter-dependent, but;
      B (easy)
I'd try for both Alonso and Vardy
      Both
Without Kane, a front line of Aubam/Vardy/Firmino, plus Alonso, and a City mid, is easily achievable

My 2FTs get me 8 players (assuming Kenny plays no part).

    Elliot > Butland
    De Bruyne > Stanislas

    Butland
    van Dijk, Kenny*
    Salah(c), Stanislas, Shaqiri, Pritchard
    Firmino, Wilson

    GTG, or take one hit?

    A. GTG
    B. Sterling > Zaha (-4)
    C. Kane > King (-4)

This is the week for hits for me. Good moves so far, I'd do either B or C, whichever takes your fancy. C probably safer and you'll want rid of Kane anyway with his injury, so that'd be my pick.

Wilson will start. Our best striker by a country mile. Howe will want best team out so expect king to replace Mousset. Defoe should get 20 min cameo

Wilson will start as the number 9, can't see any threat to him. King slightly less nailed as didn't play last week due to niggle, but I expect him to start nonetheless instead of Mousset. Defoe will be off the bench for one of them if needed.

In a bit of a dilemma at the moment:

    A) Eriksen + Alonso ➡ Stanislas + Baines (and lose value on Kane if he drops further)

Reading these replies makes me want to go King over Mounie and triple up on Bournemouth attack

As mad as it sounds, they're playing the worst team in the PL and could easily score 4. Or the other bournemouth shows up and they lose 1-0

It’s not mad sounding at all. Bournemouth are probably the second most attacking team playing this weekend who are also playing statistically the worst team in the league currently. I’m tripling up on Bournemouth this week. Can’t think of a better time to put all your eggs into one basket and gamble!

King's been fpl gold for two straight seasons now. If he's sure to start I think it's a no-brainer.

Overwhelming King response is rather surprising considering he hasn't even beeb a regular starter since returning from injury

    Baines or PVA?

Have Pickford and no Palace D/Hud forwards.

Yea Dont see a cs for Everton so doubling up not that tempting. Going to field XI and PVA seems like the next best option

Last two questions for me are:

Best Bournemouth defender for this week?

    Benteke or King?

Not sure I want to have 2 Bournemouth strikers. Why the Mounie love?

    Mounie worth a hit?

Probably not. You would need more than a goal or assist to make decent gains. Its really a 2-3 point risk both sides.

I have Ibe, Cuco Martina, and Wallcot,
who of them is less likely to start?

I was thinking Ibe to Stanislas or Zaha.

    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Ibe might get a run... i'd gamble on him getting mins over Martina tbh.
