Gameweek 31 might be diminished but, despite the curtailed fixture list, we’re giving it the full-fat ScoutCast treatment.

In fact, guided by your community questions, Jonty, Az, Andy and Granville join me as we dissect each of the four matches that make up Saturday’s offering – analysing the player targets from each as we seek to cater for the Free Hit managers and the chipless alike.

Looking further ahead, we also indulge in some wistful Wildcard discussions as we offer views on when to activate the refresh ahead of the looming double Gameweeks.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

When they launch the new "Stealth" Benteke, I'll be buying.

With only 4 games played and limited credible options, this question is really asking who are the best poor choices who might score well.

My long odds picks is Dawson.

        1. Prøfeßör …

Benteke has returned in 7 of his last 9 appearances (this includes the Chelsea game). What more would anyone want?

If you pick him on the right day, he's explosive. With such limited options, this could be the right day.

Everyone is talking about King's heroics in last year's BGW but no one is mentioning Tekkers!

Agree to disagree, read through some of the names mentioned if you have time - some hidden gems, honestly.

Dawson is potentially a good pick. He's been picked twice now and Hegazi was picked too.

      A. Smith but is he nailed? Outside of ffs I would assume there is not going to be many Zaha/PVA owners. Maybe even King. Casuals likely looking at total point and going Wilson over King (not saying it's wrong)

A Smith should start ahead of Ibe for me, they are poor defensively as it is.

Good shouts on Zaha, PVA and King.

Defoe potentially too, if he has a chance of starting. Maybe Ramadan.

I would say both Baines and Coleman. By virtue of the fact that people don't like to double up, neither one is seeing as much ownership as they would if the other one didn't exist.

You're absolutely correct. And many Pickford owners as well. That's part of the reason why I'm likely going PVA over Baines. Having Shaqiri plays a part of it as well.

🙂 DCL dive and pen scored would be nice. I don't see them keeping CS away. Maybe it's going to be a low scoring game.

Nice, are you relying purely on attacking returns or do you think there's a decent chance of a clean sheet?

        I think I still prefer Tekkers. 🙂

        1. Deulofail
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 8 months ago

Well naturally there is a chance of CSs as well as attacking returns, so I'm not relying purely on either. I've had the double up since last week, and Coleman for several weeks prior, so my double-up differential isn't simply for this one GW.:)

I still think people shouldn't overlook the double up for this week though. You can tell that many people see Baines and Coleman as their best options, but are still trying to choose between them and then find another defender elsewhere. Even if there were any rationale to the fear of doubling up (with players you will never bench/rotate), then surely that fear can be mitigated by the fact that the double-up will be for only one week (or two).

They have served you well. 🙂

I completely agree with this. All or nothing is the way to, especially with those using their Free Hits.

If you fancy Baines and Coleman, pick both! If you think Stoke.will keep a clean sheet, double up with Butland and Bauer. It's simple yet so effective.

            1. Deulofail
              • 9 Years
              7 years, 8 months ago

Sorry to be contrary, but I have to disagree. You don't have to choose all or nothing. Players from the same team have the approx. the same chance of a CS, but not the same chance of a YC, RC, assist, goal, bonus etc.

It may well be that the 2 best defensive options play each other this week, and I would be happy to follow the odds at pit them against one another. It's the age-old debate about averages. As far as I'm concerned, if I played the odds over the course of 1000 FPL seasons during a BGW, I would end up on top of the hypothetical me that chose the all-or-nothing route (where nothing really brings the average down!) haha.

It's much like the expected value for players this week being 4.5pts (for example). You buy the player for a hit because you know that probability is on your side, even though the most likely score you will get is 2pts.

Good points. My double up would be. So I probably should just look it in a vacuum and pick the one I think has expected value. Baines being on pens has to edge it. In short term variance is huge and getting something like a goal from defender would be massive. CS odds probably really close between Everton and Palace? Betting sites have them both around thirty-something %?

Not sure hehe. Can't decide but will go for one of those two. Huddesfield didn't score vs 10 so decent chance for Palace. I have to give them higher odds than Everton if I'm going him over Baines. Baines maybe slightly more likely to get attacking returns? Especially now that Siggy is out he has corners/free kicks/pens

            Hi Aubaaaa,

I think they're very high. Benteke and Zaha should start up front.

Hodgson mentioned Sørloth is suffering with fatigue in his presser and an apparent Norwegian 'insider' on Reddit is 100% sure Sørloth is out for around two weeks with a hamstring problem (not sure at all as to the validity of this but surely no smoke without fire).

I have Coleman and am considering a double up with Baines but really like Smith, so attacking, playing WB and I know this shouldn't necessarily influence my decision but he's always done well for me in the past.

There are poor nostalgic picks and there are good ones. A Smith is most certainly a good pick. Diversification can be good when there's no clear favourite.

      3. Deulofail

Schlupp, for sure, but PvA is a slightly better pick, so that's that. When it comes to Dawson and Kiko, there are enough good reasons for them to be 'under the radar' for them to be there legitimately. At that point, you're just naming footballers.

Granted Kiko is a stretch but I listed him as he's an OOP defender and could be involved in the goal if Watford score, I reckon they look going forward at the moment. Bournemouth are leaky and Dawson loves a goal, I really do think he's a viable option.

Fair point about PVA and Schlupp but Dawson and Kiko have attacking threat. I see where you're coming from though - very valid points.

Plus I completely undermined my above point about avoiding double ups! Haha

Schlupp is a good option regardless of PvA. If you already have PvA (and all the other players you think are better than Schlupp), then there is no reason not to buy Schlupp.

I guess I was describing the reason I thought he was going under the radar. There are only 5 defender slots (for most people, only 3), so if you have bought PvA, you probably have other players too, and no more space for Schlupp 😀

He would have been a great shout but he's unlikely to play. Hodgson mentioned he is suffering with fatigue in his presser and an apparent Norwegian 'insider' on Reddit is 100% sure Sørloth is out for around two weeks with a hamstring problem (not sure at all as to the validity of this but surely no smoke without fire).

I don't think that's particularly reliable. There's an international break coming up. Joshua King's injury got reported by the Norwegian media before the UK. The same should happen with Sørloth. He has struggled with his hamstring before this season, so we'll see if something is confirmed in the coming days.

Fair enough. I thought I'd post it and let people make their own judgements.

I still think Sørloth is due a rest (as hinted by Hodgson in the presser).

Thanks for that inside. I hope he is fine and that he will play as he us due to score and would make a great differential. Hodgson presser gave s hint but not an obvious one. The reddit insider is more worrying but not sure how reliable is. Im willing to wait till Saturday for news. Else im getting Benteke i guess

I have a sneaky feeling that Hennessey will come out on top of the 8 GKs.
Bolasie is my under the radar pick on my FH although he only makes 1st sub.

It could happen! My view towards Crystal Palace players is well documented above (it's positive!).

Another potential hidden gem. Hennessey was earmarked as the go-to keeper a few weeks ago but now that we have pretty much an unlimited budget, everyone is getting someone more expensive.

Bolasie could do well now he's won a spot in the team, for the time being.

I can't believe so many people are writing of the Bournemouth defence. Ake has a great record of goals and bonus, he's the main one for me. Also doubling up on Baines/Coleman, but I believe that's already been discussed.

Brilliant - very fair point. I don't know about the rest but the Scoutcast has somewhat put me off the Bournemouth defence. Their stats are almost as bad as West Brom's.

Quite a few have mentioned Adam Smith. Ake is definitely the nailed one with good baseline BPS. I would certainly get him on a free hit.

Cook - called up to the national team, nice motivation for upping his game. And his bps numbers are not that different from aké recently.

Others that have been mentioned, and I agree on, are Zaha, vlP, Bolasie and also Ibe.

      Will Hughes.

Apparently he almost joined Liverpool once or twice (so there's a 'look-at-what-you-could've-won' aspect) and with all the talk of Liverpool battering Watford, it may end up a bit like the FA Cup game against WBA - lots of goals, but not all of them going the way you expect.

Or maybe I've been drinking way too much coffee.....

Yeah, agreed. Will Hughes looks class. The lad has a bright future ahead of him. There has been many more Watford players mentioned than expected.

Good topic! I'm considering Oliver Burke for my FH team. Bought back into the side last week and got an assist. And having watched him more than most ( as a Forest fan) I know his quality. Pardew is holding me back...

Outstanding shout. Agreed, I remember watching a few games of his when he was at Leipzig. He's got an abundance of potential, I hope he kicks on.

As you've said Pardew (and WBA) is the big issue. It's a shame because he's clearly quality.

Sørloth confirmed to not having trained by the Norwegian media. Sørloth was reported to be out for at least two weeks by an insider yesterday.

If you're going to go with one then go Baines - penalties factor

However I would consider going with neither and transferring in Shaqiri as I think Stoke will score, though that's purely my opinion

Should I sell David Silva (who will rise .1 and I’ll want him back on WC next week) or RLC who might play this week?

Is it possible to see if they've played their Free Hit this week anyone know?

If they've got something like 9M in the bank and have zero transfers this GW then probably, yeah.
Either that or they are wildcarding this week which is highly unlikely.

Now that Borussia Dortmund are out of the Europa league, does that mean Aubameyang can now play in it?

Best replacements for Siggy and Kane/Son (with only gw 31 in mind. Wildcard in 32)

    Already got playing in 31:

    VVD Mariappa Schindler
    Salah Wally Shaqiri
    Depoitre Firmino

Thinking Zaha and one of Stan/King

    Thoughts?

In a similar position with depoitre. Was going to sell for -4 but realised even if the striker comes in and scores its a only 1 point gain so I'm sticking with depoitre 1 point cameo
