Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

Coming to the conclusion that I'll be losing 1million in value transferring out Firmino & Otamendi.

The final decision is on whether Salah stays or goes.
The way I'm planning to play the season out then Salah is a goner apart from FH GW 35 then bring him back in GW36.
Losing that value is a stinker but I guess it's all relative.

      36?

I'm one of the few planning on selling him too but it'll be 34 or 37.

        My season without him
        After 25 weeks Salah-less, rank 11k

        26 onwards with him
        Rank now 150k

With no dgw, I think a week or 2 without him isn't that worrying

Actually as it turns out if I transfer out Ota & Firmino I'll have the option of shifting him for GW34 but bring him back after FH in 35 so actually it's not that big a deal and I'll have a better idea if it's crazy then.
Playing the fixtures, but we'll see. It would most likely be for MunU player or Hazard who'll both have 2 games to Salahs juicy Bournemouth at home.
        Still pondering.

Im same , Ota Sterling and Bobby. That's a lot of cash to lose. I Fekin hate these chips and DGW"s. I just know Willian Son Alonso and co are going to be hit with rotation too. Double the pain

Yep, the DGWers are only useful if they play both games and that when the guesswork comes in at this time of the season.
Got to be 99.5% nailed in my book but then they can do a James Milner on you. 🙂

    Man U

    Southampton

Repost for new crowd as got no responses earlier, any thoughts on the below combinations?

    A) Alonso, Willian, King
    B) Mustafi/Christensen/Robertson, Willian, Groß
    C) Alonso, Gudmondsen, Groß

Currently on A but worried about Willian's minutes, Alonso's price, and bench boosting King's one match two point ceiling. Are there any better combos for BB34 (will FH35)

    Many thanks.

-21 is for Brighton. It's 21 for Leicester. But that's still among the lowest.

Well I don't really follow those numbers every week, but just something to consider. And 21 is one of the lowest I've seen. Why risk a hit?

Well I remember either him or G-Whizz saying that they wouldn't bother with anything less than 200. So 21 means it's going to be a low scoring tight game.

These moves for Smalling are slightly strange. Starting the last 8 is obviously solid but Rojo, Jones and maybe Lindelof all knocking on the door now for the double. DDG and possibly Bailly the only United defence that's safe from rotation for me. Don't even think Valencia is safe from those 3 games in 7 days.

I absolutely agree, and yet i've still opted for Smalling (below), i just hope i can squeeze as many games out of him as possible, or that United rack up the clean sheets making it unlikely to change in defence.

Clean sheet this weekend. No clean sheet (probably) against City. Who knows for 34. If you can fit him in without damaging the rest of your squad then maybe I see it. Slightly risky that's all

No there's the answer to "who was mourinho preferring in defence at start of season?"
Granted it does give some perspective to people who think smalling is nailed

Well, after quite a few days deliberation, i have decided against my original 3-5-2 WC team and gone for 3-4-3, just feel it allows that bit more flexibility.

Just made approx 4 changes to my squad. The changes i did were:
Pope + Otamendi + Robertson + Barnes >> Ryan, Mustafi, Smalling + Vardy

    DDG
    Mustafi - Alonso - Smalling
    Mahrez - Son - Salah - Willian
    Aubameyang - Vardy - Firmino
    __________________________
    Ryan: Gudmundsson, Morgan, Lowton

Leaves 0.1 ITB. Plan to BB in GW34, TC in GW37. Have no FH chip, so tried to plan as much ahead as i possibly could whilst also catering for short term.

How is she looking now? I have to say i'm settled on this now. Appreciate any feedback 🙂

Gross is more appealing to me.
      Also,
      I'm keen on getting Lukaku.

Smalling in my mind is risky.

        Cheers GNU.
Gross over Gudmundsson you mean yeah?
I'm coming round to Lukaku as well, but feel like i may give him some games before deciding to committ for DGW.
I absolutely agree about Smalling. If i'm to make teh amended changes, it means i have to downgrade elsewhere. Can't think of anyone else i'd want rid of.

          Yes on Gross Question.
Smalling to Brighton defender or double up on Burnley - maybe not overly appealing unless you find a good way to use the extra cash.

Cool, i do like the look of Gross, over Murray anyway.
Not a bad idea to double up on Burnley seeing as i already have DDG i guess. I shall have a mess about and see where i can use or preserve the extra cash left over.

It's such a toughie isn't it, and you'd think we'd be able to look at 2 or 3 assured nailed starters considering it's Man U defence, it's frustrating to say the least. Even Bailly on International Duty could be given a rest.
Valencia is fat too high in price for me also. I'm gonna look at some alternative options.

without FH for 35 and hit my WC before the fixtures were announced...

      DDG
      Smalling - Mustafi - Robertson
      Son - Salah - Willian - Mahrez - Gudmonsson
      Aub - Lukaku

      Ryan - Barnes - Lowton - Morgan

      .4 ITB

      This allows me to:

      GW32: Team above
      GW33: Save FT
      GW34: 11DGW players + 2 Arsenal + 2 Liverpool + BB Chip
GW35: 2 FT plus maybe a hit for city assets and playing GW35 players

Karius is a decent option but as you know, doesn't have any DGW's. It's tough who to choose in place of Robertson, 5.4m would be your limit with 0.4 itb, i'd say maybe Christensen could be the best value at that price.

If you were to swap one of Son or Willian to bring in Mkhitaryan to take advantage of Arsenal’s next 2 fixtures, which one would you drop? Son playing out of position but has Chelsea and Stoke both away, whereas Willian has a (possible) threat of rotation but a home game against West Ham in GW33.

For the DGW I will do one of the following, based on Kane’s prognosis:

    Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang to...

    A. Son and Lukaku
    B. Gross and Kane

    How’s ‘at for a plan?

Money for Smalling or Christensen but iffy about both.

I'd get Tarkowski over Mee. I think he has more goal threat.

Clyne is flagged red with muscle injury and unknown return date. Is he really going to play already gw32 or when will he be back?

I forgot that Clyne is still a Liverpool player it has been that long since i seen him play.

I suppose he will surely get a few games during the run in for the first team seen that he is now fit enough for the u23s especially when Liverpool have a top four spot secured for sure.

Looks first choice, particularly in the easier games, even when Gomez is available.

I might be getting him in for Long when I plan to BB.

hes been named in the champions league squad for the second half of the season. played 90 mins thrice i believe for the u23s so is a reasonable threat to TAA

Fair play to Brandon @ Always Cheating.

He admitted that if he had waited for the fixture announcements he would have Wildcarded in 33 and not 32.

Will any of the scoutcast team make the same omission tomorrow?

Just for you Virg - (in D major)

      Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
      I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
      I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
      And did it my way

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Christensen Smalling Chilwell Lowton
    Son Salah Mahrez Willian Grob
    Firmino Aubameyang Murray
