Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

      2. I’d be worried about Chris / Pope roatation. Chris especially with FA Cup. I also think DDG is a must have.

Probably avoid Pope as Heaton will get minutes ahead of World Cup in my opinion
Probably 2) as I considered Alonso pretty much essential when I activated my WC lol

I won't be getting him for 34. May lose Firmino and Son/Alonso for 37. (Depending on top 4 situation)

That's my thinking. Hoping he gets a start in the cup game at GW35 and I will bring him in for 36

Hope he starts before end of the season. And enjoy when others TC him to get that one extra point and fall to same trap that gw22 was.

"Rather sooner than later" was said WC in mind, not next weeks.

Can someone please help, I keep changing my mind on when to use chips! I have WC, BB and TC available. My team is very solid for this week so I was thinking TC in 34, WC 35 and BB 37, is that the best route?

If you can have a good team in 35 while getting in the necessary 37 doublers then yes.

BB in 37 is very risky as rotation will be rife around then (not just teams with European football, but teams with little/nothing to play for having a look at youngsters etc.).

Even thought I have more DGW players in GW37, I will be using BB in 34

Dgw37 is risky, true, but dgw34 certain to fail.

thats my plan i think as no FH balanced for DGW 34 and BGW 35 as too many good fixtures to ignore

    Any feeeback much appreciated...

How’s this WC team looking with only bench boost remaining?

Plan to bench boost with 9 DGW players in 34 then roll into 35 with 9 players + 2FT to bring in Double city.

    DDG Hennessy
    Bailly Roberston Tark Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Gudmunsson Mili
    Auba Lukaku Firmino

I’ve opted for Henn + Mili as they have nice fixtures over 34/35 (despite no double) and are cheap enablers who can sit on bench rest of season.

Just a thought on this Murray v Barnes thing, he should start both games prior to GW34 and they are good fixtures... he may bring in his returns prior to the DGW

Ha ha, yes in favour of Murray... or who would you prefer ?

        Barnes n Gross

        Or

        Murray n Gudmunson

I'm considering going double Brighton actually, really not sold on Barnes, the double looks like an obvious place to rotate him, and as you say the fixtures leading up aren't as good as Brighton's

            • 15 Years

so to answer your question, probably B, but I think Gross is the best option out of all 4 of them

Murray is quite likely to get rotated too, with Locadia and Ulloa in the wings. Burnley have been known to play in a 442 previously, so it's likely Barnes will play a lot.

Isn't Barnes going to start losing minutes to Chris Wood?

      1. @fpl_phenom
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

Wood is back the last few weeks and Barnes hasn’t lost minutes, he’s actually scored in all of the last 3 matches

        1. Going Home
          • 14 Years
          7 years, 8 months ago

Wood is coming back to fitness, has had two run outs off the bench and has scored 3 goals.

Wood is the premier striker at Burnley and will likely be starting when fully fit. It's just a question of whether they play two up top to keep Barnes in the side

        2. suddenorgan
          • 15 Years
          7 years, 8 months ago

they can also play both, they've played Barnes and Vokes together a few times.. still a risk

      2. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

To be honest if I knew Chris Wood would be playing more I'd get him. 20 points in 2 gameweeks and reduced gametime...

Could see him starting the Leicester game with Barnes, and then benched for Chelsea with them shifting to 4-5-1

    Hi all,

I have noticed a very strange thing and I would like to ask you if you have the same issue as I do.

My rival is on a WC and has the team already set up with 0.0 ITB. I do not know which players he has, but I am checking his squad value on daily basis and price risers and fallers - that way I can spot a players he has if his squad value is changing.

Now - Google Chrome and Opera are showing me different values! On Chrome he has Squad Value 103.4 and 0.0 ITB and on Opera he has Squad Value 103.6 and 0.0 ITB.

    I am missing something here?

    Thx

just checked in IE (which I do not use, and TV is 103.4... He never had a TV of 103.6 as per my knowledge so it seems that Opera is just showing different numbers...

well there is quite a lot of money involved, I am 40 points behind and have some spare time at work... it's not that geeky as it seems .)))

however the issue itself is quite strange and it seems that Opera is simply showing wrong numbers...

Don't worry about the haters. I am as keen as you but sadly the system has changed last season. It will show the initial value changes and their remaining cash at point of transaction. However you can't see a rivals changing squad value until the start of the next GW.

Is Alexander Arnold worth considering on WC?

No Gomez, Clyne still not quite ready. Would be a good enabler and plenty are talking of Mariappa at 4.2 despite being a SGWeeker.

Taking dgw34 out of the equation, in what order of preference would put these defenses for the rest of the season? FH34, BB37.

Arsenal - STO, SOT, WHM, mun, (BUR, lei), hud
Chelsea - TOT, WHU, blank, swa, (LIV, HUD) new
Liverpool - cry, eve, wba, STO, (che), bha
Spurs - che, sto, blank, WAT, (wba, NEW) LEI
United - SWA, mci, blank, ARS, (bha, wha), WAT

Am thinking Arsenal and Spurs look a must for the run-in?

    Thanks.
