Double Gameweek 34 has been a mixed bag of captaincy anti-climaxes and anti-climactic captaincies, with the odd armband disappointment thrown in for a spot of variety.

But the last time we had a reduced slate, in Gameweek 31, it was quite the opposite, with Mohamed Salah’s 29-point extravaganza scoring us more from four fixtures than we normally manage in ten.

So the Egyptian’s presence in the six-fixture Gameweek 35 has unsurprisingly caught the eye of our ‘expert’ panel of Fantasy Football Scout veterans Mark, Paul and Jonty and Career Hall of Fame number one Peter Kouwenberg.

Salah is a shoo-in for the Scouts’ midfield, with Man City’s Raheem Sterling another heavily backed as the champions entertain Swansea City in what should be a joyous celebration or goal-drenched humiliation depending on your club allegiance.

Sterling’s team-mate Nicolas Otamendi looks like making the cut in defence, while a frontline of Gabriel Jesus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also a matter of unanimity.

But after that, things should get a bit more antsy, with no clear winner among the Scouts’ choice of goalkeepers and a mix of Crystal Palace, West Ham and Stoke City midfielders likely to keep the bickering the wrong side of agreeable further up the pitch.

We’ll be back to reveal the Scout Picks team later in the week, but for now here are all their selections, which may contain traces of Ragnar Klavan and Calum Chambers.

Peter Says…

At first glance, there seems to be an arrray of obvious candidates for the Picks at a time when many Fantasy Premier League managers are activating their Free Hit chip. Then again, we said that ahead of the Gameweek 34 doubles, only to suffer disappointment.

I would anticipate that the key to everything will be the “ITK” leaks from Liverpool and, to a lesser extent, Manchester City. Neither are under pressure to field their strongest line-ups, but both are treated to appetising fixtures.

Gabriel Jesus was already firmly entrenched in my own Free Hit squad before the news broke about Sergio Aguero going under the knife, and if City are inclined to put on a show at the Etihad Stadium, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane should also prosper.

Meanwhile, Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah top my respective defensive and midfield ladders, with Roberto Firmino my third-choice striker. Sadio Mane provides an in-form alternative, but I felt more spoilt for choice in midfield than attack, so left out the Senegalese with some reluctance.

Despite competition from Andy Carroll (assuming his fitness extends to more than four minutes per week) and Javier Hernandez to spearhead the Hammers attack, Marko Arnautovic showed enough on Monday night to suggest he could reap the rewards against Arsenal’s shuffled defence. In opposition, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains a man in form, even if he is dislodged from a centre-forward role at times.

My selection of three defensive players and just one attacker for both Burnley’s visit to Stoke City (Jack Butland, Moritz Bauer, Matt Lowton and Chris Wood) and for Newcastle’s trip to face Everton (Jordan Pickford, Martin Dúbravka, Leighton Baines and Ayoze Pérez) shows where my feelings lie for the clashes at the Bet 365 Stadium and Goodison Park, although both named strikers are riding high in the form chart.

Paul Says…

Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma has to be factored into Jurgen Klopp’s plans for a Saturday lunchtime trip to West Brom.

Nonetheless, I think it would be far too risky to assume that Salah will be rested at The Hawthorns and feel that we can’t ignore him come Friday’s Picks.

As the only side to return more than one clean sheet in the last four Gameweeks – tallying a total of three – the Reds defence could be set to profit. With more chance of rotation in the full-back areas, Virgil van Dijk and Loris Karius look safe routes into a backline that’s conceded just five times in their last 12 matches across all competitions.

Burnley pair Johan Berg Gudmundsson and Chris Wood have the form to trouble a Stoke defence that has allowed their opponents more shots in the box (43), efforts on target (29) and attempts from set-pieces (28) than any other side.

Wood has five goals in as many appearances and is ranked joint-third for both big chances (five) and efforts on target (seven) among all players over their last four matches. Dead-ball specialist Gudmundsson, meanwhile, has served up an assist in each of his last three league appearances.

While Butland is likely to earn further save points, the prospects of a Stoke clean sheet look slim against a Clarets side that have chalked up five straight wins.

Jonty Says…

Rotation fears see me shun more obvious picks from Liverpool’s ranks.

They host Roma just three days after visiting basement dwellers West Brom, and I fear for the minutes of the likes of  Firmino, Salah and Mane against the Baggies.

Nevertheless, Liverpool’s Egyptian looks too good to ignore, and even the prospect of a brief cameo could bring returns. It took Salah just 13 minutes to score a brace against Stoke in Gameweek 17, the last time he was last benched in the league.

With the title now secured, teamsheet surprises could also blight our Manchester City selections. We’ll have to tread carefully and keep an ear out for clues from Pep Guardiola this week.

We’ve already been served a big spoiler with the news that Sergio Aguero could miss the rest of the season after undergoing minor surgery. This should ensure Jesus remains front and centre for the champions against visiting Swansea.

Also, Sterling’s form makes him irresistible. Only Salah has had more attempts than the City winger over their last six run-outs, and he should start.

Otamendi gets my backing in defence. Having enjoyed a rest against Spurs last weekend, he looks primed for a return and offers enough at set-plays to paper over the cracks should Man City concede.

Filed under my “punts and enablers” is Watford’s Roberto Pereyra, who has been excelling of late, with two goals from nine attempts over his last four matches.

I predict goals on both sides in the Hornets’ home clash with Crystal Palace and am keen to see Eagles’ set-piece maestro Luka Milivojevic involved.

His 38 points over his last four matches make him superb value for just 5.1. I’m also keen on his team-mate Wilfried Zaha. The winger turned striker has three goals since Gameweek 30 as he prepares to face the league’s worst home defence, with 30 goals shipped at Vicarage Road.

Mark Says…

With Free Hit chips in play, my selection is somewhat skewed by my own ambitions and my liking for a series of daring differentials.

For some unknown reason, I can see Stoke City springing the surprise result and ending Burnley’s run of form. Desperate times can create such shocks and a 1-0 victory for the Potters wouldn’t be so far off script at this stage in the season, particularly with a potentially weary Clarets in action on Thursday against Chelsea.

With that in mind, I will fight for Butland’s berth in goal, and I’m also sponsoring Xherdan Shaqiri for a return to the Picks. He’s been simmering of late after a burst of goals, but I expect him to be the key man should Stoke prevail.

Elsewhere, I also like the Zaha option at Watford. He gains my vote over Milivojevic on the basis that flair surely wins out over set-pieces. I’m probably wrong, and the dullard route will come good, but I’ll take that risk all the same.

Perhaps the only other surprise is the selection of Ragnar Klavan among my five defenders.

I know from bitter experience that we’re often scratching around for defensive bargains come Friday’s cut and, with the Estonian set to benefit from Klopp’s rotation, his 4.1 price tag is surely too handy to overlook.

The Community Champion

Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 35 will be Mattias, who is in his 11th campaign and has five top 100,000 finishes under his belt.

The community champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2017/18 will win a £100 Amazon voucher (currently we can only offer Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com vouchers).

Anyone punting on any Arsenal attacking players other than Aubameyang on a FH for GW35?

Xhaka, Wilshere, Elneny: Below par options
    Mkhitaryan: Injured
    Ramsey: Injury prone (possibly injured)
    Lacazette: Massive rotation risk
    Ozil, Welbeck, Iwobi: Rotation risks

Really tempted to put one of those last three in my team. Anyone have any idea who of those is most likely to start or are they all too big of a risk?

i think Iwobi is the safest pick out of those for this weekend , as i think Wenger will play the same team he played vs CSKA against Madrid during the week , which will be Iwobi on the bench

I disagree that Wilshere is a below-par option in general, but he's likely to get a rest, so no. Same with Ramsey, Laca and Ozil.

I'm tempted by Bellerin, Kolasinac, Iwobi and Welbeck, because it's possible to make a team with these players without destroying the rest of the team, and if the risk doesn't pay off, it's less of a big deal.

That said, I'll likely stick with Auba only, because there are plenty of other good options to choose from in all positions.

No good Arsenal picks apart from Aubameyang and even he isn't likely to bring about many attacking returns when hes playing with academy graduates & iwobi due to resting plays for EL

      Iwobi for me.

I'd say there's a 75% chance he'll start which is far higher than Ramsey and Özil. Decent punt to grab a goal or assist, if it backfires he's only 5.1m. Welbeck and Lacazette could play but not much chance of 90 minutes as they're both favoured in Europe.

        Looks good to me.

Should be easy enough fixtures for pretty much every one of those to get some kind of score and combined with a good captaincy pick you should be fine.

Even if Salah only has a 20-30 minute cameo I wouldn't put it past him to grab a cheeky goal or assist.

Just make sure you know what you want your team to look like for DGW37, because taking huge hits from GW36-37 will be much more costly than from a blank GW.

Seeing lots of people filling FH35 teams with Everton defenders because of "on the beach Newcastle".

Just a few thoughts on why I think that's a completely baseless suggestion, and why if anything, it's Everton on the beach.

          - Newcastle have only just reached 41 points. There is no evidence so far that suggests they're going to take their foot off the gas.

          - Rafa isn't going to let standards drop. If anything, the season run in is something that his sides tend to do well in. Newcastle took the Championship title because of their end of season form (and Brighton slipping up), and they went 6 unbeaten at the end of 15-16. 2013-14 Napoli went unbeaten in their last 6, Chelsea 2012-13 unbeaten in their last 8. The 2014-15 Napoli season is one exception, however he had already announced his resignation.

          - Newcastle players have World Cup ambitions. Lascelles and Shelvey in particular have been talked about for England, and Shelvey mentioned in a Sky interview that it is something he badly wants.

          - Dubravaka, Kenedy and Slimani have a point to prove. Whether they want to impress for permanent deals at Newcastle, more regular starts at their parent club, or a move to a "bigger" club elsewhere, all three have shown that they are hungry to impress.

          - Newcastle are on form. They've lost twice since the New Year, only failing to score against Liverpool. Why would that form suddenly disappear because they beat Arsenal?

          - Everton's form is average at best. Won 2 of their last 7, 5 of which could be considered favourable fixtures. One of those victories was against 10 man Stoke in the snow.

          - Allardyce. The survey sent round to fans this week surely can't be a good sign, and now he's done his yearly "saved them from relegation" trick, much like Conte, does he even care?

          - Everton haven't finished well for the past two seasons. Last season they lost 3 of their last 4, the year before they won 2 of their last 11...

I'm not sure why the assumption is that Newcastle on the beach, when they're one point behind Everton (with a game in hand), and have players who have things to play for, and a manager who will ensure standards are maintained.

Agree with this, in fact in the last couple of games Newcastle have been professional in wins against teams who really do look on the beach (Arsenal and Leicester).

That said I'll probably have an Everton defender and maybe Pickford because Newcastle still don't look a side who'll score masses of goals.

We won't score masses of goals, no, but we have scored in 11 of the last 12 games. If Slimani starts, which I think he might, I expect him to be more clinical than Gayle, and we have been creating endless amounts of chances.

I'd argue Burnley, Liverpool, City, Arsenal and maybe Stoke would be better options.

I fully understand having Baines for set pieces, or Coleman, but I'm seeing Everton defence triple ups...

when was the last time Arsenal kept a clean sheet. Burnley maybe but add in the attacking attacking threat of the full backs and an everton defender is a good option

"I understand having Baines or Coleman"

I'm not saying having an Everton full back is a bad thing, in fact I have Baines in my current FH draft, I'm simply saying that I don't think doubling or tripling on Everton defence is a good investment.

Arsenal defenders are also in terms of attacking returns, Bellerin for example.

Burnley defenders, especially Long at 4.0 are no brainers.

Your argument is based on team performance (i.e. Everton form: likelihood of a CS; likelihood of scoring goals; etc).

Is the likelihood that Everton perform well different for Baines and Coleman? Is the likelihood of a CS different between them?

If not, then I don't see how having both is an issue. If you argue that other teams are better due to form and motivation, you're really saying that Baines is a bad pick AND Coleman is a bad pick, because they play for Everton.

That's a fair argument to make, but it sounds like you're advocating buying one because other options are better, which doesn't make sense.

I'd personally like to pitch in and suggest that people are buying them for their overall likelihood of points. CSs are hard to predict, and no team is A LOT more likely than another to get a CS. Surprises won't be that surprising. So with all the money we have spare, it makes sense to go for mid-premium options that are known to have goal threat. Coleman nearly scored last game, charging into the box, and Baines is hopefully on pens.

It's unlikely to pay-off, because no defenders are regularly involved in goals (besides Smalling at the moment!), but it probably feels more likely to pay off than other options who rely more heavily on the CSs. It's a luxury that we can afford for one week.

(I even dragged both around in my team for about 6 weeks, including benching them a couple times, not so long ago).

My initial point was that people were loading up their team with Pickford, Baines and Coleman because Newcastle were "on the beach". I gave reasons why I don't believe that to be the case, and why I think if people are hoping for a CS then they could be disappointed, especially with a triple-up.

I've said that I currently have Baines because I like that he probably has majority of set pieces, and could provide attacking points. My point was never really to do with attacking returns, instead trying to point out why I don't believe Everton to be a likely source of a clean sheet this gameweek.

There just seemed to be a very "Newcastle are going to just roll over" attitude, since they've reached 41 points, resulting in people thinking of mega clean sheet hauls, and I think in reality it's likely to be very different.

I could, of course, be completely wrong, and Everton win 2-0 with Baines and Coleman goals assisted by Pickford, but I felt like an alternative point of view to the current rhetoric was needed.

I agree that Newcastle aren't going to just roll over. I was replying to your points that other teams were better options, so you shouldn't double or triple up. That we should have Baines or Coleman, because they are understandable, but not both.

I think in terms of clean sheets, there are definitely better options.

If we assume a Baines and Coleman double, that probably then takes away funds from your front 7, which looks like the place to invest this gameweek. It also probably stops you getting a City/Liverpool/Arsenal defender, as that would be a very expensive back line!

Having only one Everton full back, I think, is the best way to do it. If Everton keep a clean sheet, great, and then any attacking return is a bonus. I think a double or triple is then maybe putting all your eggs in one basket, which yes could go well, it just seemed lots of people were taking an Everton CS for granted. It then allows more funds to be put into a more expensive defender from City/Liv/Ars, or more to be spread over the midfield and attack.

Everton have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 3 home games (against Brighton, City, and Liverpool). An Everton defence with Baines and Coleman is a better defence that we've had for much of the season.

I'd say most want 3 City attackers, negating their appeal. Picking an Arsenal defender isn't easy with the significant risk of rotation and concerns over their motivation, form, and morale. Personally I would not say that a Stoke clean sheet (1 in 9 - against Southampton) is more likely against Burnley than an Everton one against Newcastle. Burnley have also been conceding of late.

Again, I'm not saying Baines and Coleman are bad options. I'm saying that the assumption many people seem to have, looking at teams with 2-3 Everton defenders/GK, is that Newcastle at home is a guaranteed CS.

I'll reiterate that Newcastle have scored in 11 of their past 12 games.

Bellerin/Chambers look like they could be good Arsenal options, and depending on how much money you have you could have two to cover rotation.

Stoke will see Burnley as a must win game, and have improved over the past couple of games.

A)Niasse to Barnes/Jordan Ayew (Jayew better long term option imo)
            or
B)King to Milivojevic / Zaha (if you have enough from other moves for Zaha)
            or
            C)Lukaku to Aubameyang/Jesus
            or
            D) Son to Sterling

or a mixture of up to 3 of those (I wouldnt take more than a -8 total pt hit)
Hope that helps. C option I'd say for sure? A and B could also pay off big time. I'd say D is only necessary if you go for Aubameyang over Jesus for C.

Regarding Man City, who is better/more nailed the rest of the season:

          A) Sterling v Silva v Sane

          B) Otamendi v Walker
